Whitney now -- a direct third they executive director of the national VA's association Scott burns and former Texas prison gang investigator Marianne -- And gang expert Richard -- -- good evening out ladies and gentlemen.
-- judging on all right Scott Burns I'm gonna start review should DNA is around the country be worried that a line has been crossed.
It's shocking I mean we received threats as prosecutors you know that you did it for decades.
And we take them serious but the good news is it is so rare for prosecutors to actually be murdered.
We have a monument down in Columbia, South Carolina and thank god there's only eleven names on it soon to be two more.
But this is unprecedented.
-- unprecedented Scott and as you say we both understand you've been elected DA had been elected DA -- threats just go with the territory.
With two from one office within two months and then in the United States attorney.
Who is prosecuting the case that they worked on is -- you know he's taken himself off the case what does that tell you.
Wealthy you know I received calls from all over the country prosecutors offering to go down there.
As you know we represent the criminal justice system and the rule of law.
And prosecutors take great pride in standing before judges like you and say the government is ready and we cannot.
We cannot back down from these people.
All right Marianne I'm gonna go to you now you have a gang prison investigator.
And you have worked in the prison system with these gang members are -- -- known to target law enforcement and their families.
No ma'am this is totally uncharacteristic.
Totally -- characteristic of a B team members.
Well not just of AB team members but of gang members in general.
A prison gang members yes if it's not.
Something that's at the top of their list -- that they know that that's part of the territory have been getting arrested and being prosecuted.
And especially the small town like that where everybody knows somebody they've been prosecuted probably in the same county you know by these people before.
And there hasn't been a target on them you know -- it at that time so why now why don't they do this now this is just not them.
We have but well I don't know if any of us can say is just not them but it may not not typical of what they've done Richard -- -- it's not you didn't go from a is is is this.
Setting a precedent now.
Four other gang members if indeed this is all what -- area brotherhood Texas or any other gang.
Yeah we're assuming that it's Aryan Brotherhood Texas.
If it is they are going against what they normally believe in -- what they normally believe is that.
Killing a policeman or a prosecutor is not good for business.
And so that's what the investigator was talking about that's my experience as well.
But you know what's interesting here is that you know the Texas authorities.
After that indictment that the Kaufman county DA's office had worked -- a law and that multi -- task force.
All -- Texas authorities said that aim being the Aryan Brotherhood Texas had issued an alert.
Threat I should say of retaliation against law enforcement.
And that was intelligence that they had -- isn't that unusual -- -- judge I would suspect that there was something more to that it's not a normal course of their business.
But if they feel insulted or if they feel demeaned.
They would be required by their codes to make some kind of a statement and that statement would be in violence.
All right -- panel stick around with us we're gonna have more on the Texas prosecutor murders.
After the break yeah.
Today I'm announcing -- my office is offering a cash.
Reward of up to 100000.
Dollars for information leading to the capture and indictment.
Of those responsible for the deaths.
Mister -- -- McClellan as well as mr.
-- A 100000 dollars now 200000.
Dollars is a lot of money.
But will -- be enough to get someone to turn in those responsible for these murders.
We're back with the executive director of the national district attorney's association.
Scott Burns former Texas prison gang investigator -- and -- gang expert Richard valve to mark.
Scott -- I'm -- I'm gonna go to you now.
What we're seeing now if it is true.
-- many suspect that the Aryan Brotherhood is behind these -- at and for good reason.
A statewide bulletin had warned that they were planning retaliation for the indictment against law enforcement officials.
Now what did DA do when a situation like this Scott.
Well you know were telling all of our prosecutors across the country to be.
That extra vigilant keep an -- on your -- -- if you get a threat.
I don't be hero -- call law enforcement and we know what to do but he put two -- with Scott here's the problem look.
I was in DA an accounting of the billion people I had a security detail I was high profile.
I mean I had the push him away our right.
Of the DA's in this country have offices were less than four people -- it.
They can afford a security detail and will someone please tell me why McClellan who don't prosecutor was killed.
Why there wasn't a -- camera on his house.
The reality is you have to go to work to and from the same place most of these prosecutors as you state -- from small jurisdictions.
And if somebody wants to kill -- DA.
That that that's just the reality of it that's why we need to find these people and find them quickly with respect to why security was pulled.
From his residence I don't know it -- been that he was sick of it as you know.
It's not fun.
You know I I -- -- and I can just a guy like this and this Scott McClellan his reputation -- he was -- tough cookie was an army guy -- -- -- the sheriff could have gone home.
All but at the same time there should about a -- a -- camera.
Outside his house and because they didn't do that shame on them not him.
But law enforcement protecting him anyway Richard I'm gonna go to you the Aryan Brotherhood is a white supremacist gang tell us about them.
Well it's gets labeled -- white supremacist gang because they use white supremacy to recruit.
White inmates but if you're if you look quite.
And you come -- into the prison system you're gonna fall under the control of the Aryan Brotherhood.
But they have no problem we're working with the Mexican.
Mexican cartels and Mexican Mafia.
Even black organizations if they have to.
And -- so.
-- -- So it's so we can't really -- -- that's a Southern Poverty Law Center who calls everybody and not see.
That's really not their motivation the motivation is.
That there are criminals they happen to be wife and they banned together to protect themselves against other races.
The real danger with them is that there are some of the toughest kids on the block and as such they are hired by other people to do their dirty work.
For instance when -- was incarcerated he was being extorted by the Aryan Brotherhood and the -- Aryan Brotherhood use black.
Inmates to intimidate him and so that -- they could extract this extortion.
You know Richard and it's amazing it's almost a -- -- to call -- the Aryan Brotherhood because it's almost as though some people will.
You know and kind of under estimate what their goals are -- and Mary -- I'll go to you with this.
Ought heaven -- the Aryan Brotherhood Texas you're familiar with the prison gangs in Texas.
Haven't they moved off of their original mission.
Which is why apparently the -- circle broke off from them.
Yes yes yes jets.
That area of circle broke off because of the ideology if they wanted separate.
They didn't like the way the Aryan Brotherhood with got -- Texas what's going.
And so when they broke off they wanted to -- the white supremacist ideology.
With them they were more -- bat then the ABT what's.
OK and so what you're seeing is them going off their original mission Scott the national DA's association what are they plan to do.
Are going forward now is there is or any movement afoot to be a pass laws or or get more funding for these prosecutors.
Well right now the Texas.
District and county attorney's association is on the ground and we're working through them we'll issue a press release on Monday.
We too -- going to try and raise a 100000 dollars nationwide money seems to work.
But most of all of there's a spotlight now on as you know judge what prosecutors.
To deal with every day so if you see your local prosecutor.
Tell her -- him thanks because they're warriors.
Yes they are they are warriors that's for sure all right Scott -- Richard thanks for being with us this evening.
