Or South Korea joining us now out of context and perspective on all of this.
National security analyst KT McFarland -- let's start off first of -- With Defense Secretary hagel saying that the US was canceling the test of a minuteman three missile out of Vandenberg Air Force Base in California this week.
Do you think that's prudent or is that just.
Giving too much credibility to Kim Jong-un.
Now I think it's probably at this point I think it's prudent and I I must say I think the administration has handled itself.
Pretty well in this crisis -- not back down they didn't cancel the US South Korean and -- military exercise that was the right thing to do they did reinforce.
-- aircraft and and and destroyers into the region that was the prudent thing to their at this point.
-- the young 2930 year old leaders have North Korea he's got himself so far out on the -- It's important for him to crawl back from -- so I think it's -- -- the prudent thing.
For us to cancel the minuteman missile test what I do think it's gonna happen this week -- -- I do think that north Koreans are going to try to test a missile I think they're going to do it on the hundredth birthday.
Of the founder of the North Korean state who is the grandfather of the current leader of North Korea and I think and the question will be what do we do about it we shoot it down -- we see where it's going.
Potentially shoot it down.
That's when the escalation could happen all right so what do we do -- -- do we shoot it down or do we just see where it's gone.
I -- kind of attack or -- going for sure should shoot it down.
But I do think that the point that both senators just made the importance of going to China.
This could be another silver lining in this crisis that we could go to the Chinese the Chinese to come to us and say luck.
Nobody wants this crisis to get out of hand nobody wants us to go into a war you China have been very content.
For the last decade or so -- -- that cannery in peninsula below boil.
You know -- -- does north Koreans taunt him.
And test weapons and go for nuclear weapons but now it all threatens to boil over and so -- China have a vested interest.
In stopping this because if it leads to war that means you've got -- United States right on the Chinese border.
If it leads to economic K -- the collapse of North Korea you got thousands millions of North Korean refugees.
-- if it looks really like the sabers are rattling you could well see.
Japan -- militarized and South Korea and Japan decide they need nuclear weapons so those are good for China so those are all point.
Secretary of state Kerry may make when he meets with this -- and -- And he -- his leaders.
Next would never end of next week I believe he's going over there but yes what about she Jean -- -- is even different mind than Hu Jintao who can -- really kind of held a -- against the United States when it came to North Korea.
When this is what you don't know and John this is why this year the annual North Korean crisis that they do every single -- absolutely reliable.
You know cherry blossoms daylight savings time North Korean military crisis this.
But this year the problem -- that it might be a little different because of what you just said.
There are now new leaders every place you have a new leader in China changing -- he's thought to be fairly hawkish there's a new leader in South Korea she's only been there for a month.
She's hawkish there's a new leader in new leadership in Japan also hawkish and the critical leader of all is the North Korean leader 2930 years old nobody's really madame -- -- Dennis Rodman.
And this is a guy who Shoney's pretty reckless he should even be allowed to play would make pitches and he's got his hands on nuclear weapon.
And let's not forget to KT that they did this on the fourth of July.
Back in 2006 so it's with respect it's not just limited to the spring but you did say.
That Kim Jung and his -- so far out there on a limb that he's got to crawl back -- something happened we talked with Peter King.
From New York yesterday the congressman who said he thinks that this could tip over the -- what about you.
Well that's the worry that you have I think you will try to test this missile sites that and then -- question will be what is -- the escalation point.
This do we shoot it down to the South Korean shoot down -- -- -- it down and is this guy out -- -- -- He's got to show his generals that he is a tough guy -- just to stop his dad justice -- grams maybe what he thinks as well maybe let's go.
Shallow and South Korea and I -- I -- -- two years ago nobody responded maybe we'll think of South Korean ship I did back two years ago nobody had any response.
So the question that I have is what is this guy gonna do is he gonna -- calculate.
The response that the other countries might have to whatever provocation he sees in his own mind.
KT always good to get your thoughts on things thanks so much for joining us today.
