-- -- background checks both Murphy and Blumenthal from Connecticut.
Are calling on their colleagues remember the victims of the Newtown school shooting December 14.
Now those behind this measure.
Are saying they believe it makes sense and they're talking about the impact about hearing from those -- families.
There's no panacea here.
And I -- -- Joe's experience separately meeting with the families and was amazed at their strength.
Come and they understand that there is no panacea but a measure that helps to make it harder.
For violent criminals and the dangerously mentally ill to get guns I think that's just common sense.
Now moments ago senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell called this measure and overreach that will punish.
Neighbors friends and family and so he says he will oppose this critical procedural vote -- and -- so I had no doubt the NRA is not happy with any of this right Mike.
Well that's right and I'm told that they were consulted throughout the process they were part of the discussions with senators to meet and mansion but they call this effort misguided.
And Chris Cox in a letter to senators wrote quote as we have -- have noted previously expanding background checks at gun shows or elsewhere.
