Morning I'm Doug -- I'm here with my friends and colleagues John absolutely a -- to doubt we -- political insiders we bring you.
Talk and analysis you can't get anywhere.
-- on broadcast cable or the web we take you as insiders into the world of politics -- explain why things are happening.
Not just offer the sort of superficial sound bites you get every day or talking or the talking points there are no talking points.
That we did pat and I are still I guess Democrats John is still a Republican.
But it is not an issue in how we analyze what's going on.
-- I want to begin by putting up president Obama's approval rating.
From the Wall Street Journal poll number three.
For a number four.
I think it's number three time intuitively we know we have read and it's -- on page -- -- is numbered.
Three here John -- your apologies are expected three for me as Max Baucus.
Sorry but that's done and I think patriotic contentious -- them.
Political insiders begins and we were little numbering but we -- I'm not -- we've -- we will we will turn to.
Our producer just that it's all the margin America how -- -- and but when I returned to mr.
-- and said pat.
Given that the president is under water for the first time what does it mean what's happening.
Why should we take this very seriously -- It's very serious because in a second term in any event presents usually lame ducks.
That is why president Obama's making such an effort.
To wanting to take the house back so he would have to last on -- years as he had -- the beginning of his.
-- she did dumb when he wants to do when he's not just to clarify wall for what it also does is it puts pressured him because it's clear that things that he was doing.
You know class warfare tearing people apart announcing the world was coming in wind with sequestering.
You know and doing nothing to -- to alleviated in -- resisting alleviate shutting down the White House towards.
Looking like he was finding things to hurt people all I think all of that has worked against him along with obamacare so I -- -- -- now on the mood of I've got to do something to.
You know this what I've been -- -- didn't work the arrogant I'm on the attack -- -- gonna govern like I got 61%.
And I barely got fifty.
-- -- -- -- I must say I've looked at the election results.
Couple weeks earlier point that.
And heart I understand that Obama won a clear decisive majority victory I understand that.
But he got what fifty point 5% of the motives.
And it and Romney got what is about 48 point five of their guzzle less authority got 47 something ironically the 47%.
Video right he ended up getting a new episode every little numbers and minutes about what do you -- -- -- wasn't any great.
Hughes but it was a 22 and a -- point victory.
Not a big victory John how do you explain what's going on there.
While pat you were talking and try to make the list of all the things I've heard and we said -- grandmother about why Obama struggling with one there's the payroll taxes -- and -- Jeter gross national product -- Slow terribly.
Gas prices up food prices up obamacare kicking and and is waiting on me I'm an amendment right and the gridlock it doesn't get any better but today there's an oval.
Which is we've heard that were all three sports friends and they say about a coach or manager.
After -- several seasons the players begin to tune the coach out.
I think people are slowly beginning to tune out Obama because he never says anything new or intriguing it's all me me me -- ally.
And -- the other guy where is the leadership that you ought to get from a second term president in his honeymoon.
Saying here as a united country -- what I wanna bring us all together to do this he's not -- Pat what was doing what you should react to that figure out everything you think you're right I I won't I fully expected with him.
With getting fifty point 5% of the voter or every got.
That he would recognize that about half of America didn't vote for.
And that he would seek to pull.
Some percentage 1015% of those on the other side of the divide in his direction to facilitate one getting a balanced budget.
To doing a deal with the Republicans and three demonstrating indeed degree of bipartisanship.
On the -- that he promised in no away pat.
And do something about the economy which was the -- -- and -- still listed there is solicit right he won in the face a very.
Poor economic performance and of course aided by the single worst political campaign and political -- history.
These these Republicans slash wigs effort rebound well.
The -- but so.
EEE but none of those things he's -- these numbers on the economy -- robbery is directly related to these numbers and by the way.
I've not liked to have spoken at all I believe as we -- week after week.
If the Republicans have developed a narrative if they were arguing something if they have -- -- and Arab.
Both to against what he has been doing to inform people because -- mainstream media -- and it to offer a vision of something other than all -- we wanna cut taxes for the rich and we wanna say no.
This is numbers would -- would really start tumbling.
And and I think what we're seeing now John I'm curious your reaction is as the perceptions of the economy get -- and given.
That the market is down a hundred points today.
Oil and gold dropping precipitously.
That that is directly related to be dropped or drift in his approval that pat is alluding to.
My question is what do you think the Republican narrative should be.
-- -- we've said it many times they need a simple to understand repeat -- -- Program to grow the economy and they haven't come up with one I haven't heard an idea since January out of the Republicans not one I don't know.
I don't -- see many Republicans on the news anymore and I did see rubio on every show yesterday did he make any Celsius while not -- heated talk about the stuff what do you tell you about immigration and guns we get to that but that's not the economy now.
But look last week what we have the economy when we got two jobs report that was so disastrous we talked about last week.
And we talked about John I -- You -- are good our leader was in Miami taking care -- Important business with the Miami Heat but anyways -- what we were -- -- -- the economy they got a better record than in the Democrats and the Republicans got RV eight.
Eight not -- of the networks and I think ABC and NBC -- -- have their Sunday shows without ever mentioning.
The disastrous job report numbers the fact -- but I -- million people stop looking for work.
And that we were and -- only created if you know what 80000 job it was is it didn't end up being mentioned.
Because let me tell you this is the disconnect.
Until today the market is going through the ceiling because the Fed -- keeps pretty -- in or other reasons to support the financial system the banks.
And guess and everyone else is taking -- that -- alone and I'm ready I'll.
Let's photos -- you may be.
I think that we got keystone cops running the White House the congress the hole but -- all for this and I asked to that that we put up number one.
On the issue of keystone cops.
This is a congressional approval rating John apologized let's look at our interrupting you but -- at 15% approve congress and -- nine.
-- so that's a bad number obviously and and Obama's numbers are going that I actually think the more there -- numbers go down the more desperate both sides to come to do something.
For themselves politically to make themselves look federal appear to appear off but reality is.
The economy continues to struggle.
Every incumbent will be in trouble.
For the whole time -- office you'd do better when things are good in the eighties when Reagan.
Had a great economy underneath them every democratic governor got reelected and every Republican -- they all got reelected because -- people -- happy.
Right now the public's getting unhappy now.
The only thing these guys can do is not just to appear to get along.
They have to do something on the economy and the only thing they can do is a debt deal.
And we saw the -- but this week with Obama.
Agreeing voluntarily in his budget Social Security Medicare least something put out there.
Ticked off the left which is a good sign.
And the Republicans are gonna have to give but.
There is -- him on revenues yes revenue yes tax rates -- I think they well I think if they get to July.
And there's a chance of a deal to really fixed for ten years this debt problem which wolf we all great right.
If they made -- -- legit deal for ten years four trillion.
Debt reduction over ten year period.
That would help the economy grow a little bit that investors whole international community all who would feel better this the American -- budget.
Where I disagree and I do think there are things immigration reform.
The background check which is a minor part and is still -- -- you if you say yes to -- -- they're there and there are some mental health provisions going in there.
Put in by Debbie Stabenow and some other Republicans some people on the hill are actually working together.
The immigration the game debate we're gonna see over the but I'm quite encouraged by at least what's been leaked out that they may get none of but none of this by the way has any leadership in the press.
This is all that but all the budget in the economy and money I think there's a problem.
The president's goal is to push in the out years suspected cuts the cuts -- number come.
And -- basically.
More and more spending and a lot more taxes not just tactic.
Not just Patrick but lots of taxes.
I don't think the Republican -- revenue should be tried as an opening bid in effect I mean there's this is going to be nigam limited and -- what I see the president -- personnel and we move somebody.
I will eventually make -- he can be led to it by these poll -- but that's but no problem what we're going to get is a deal on taxes that this offered.
From Max Baucus of we'll be corrupt as the day is long.
-- that's that's another I don't know another -- read the piece on Dave Camp the Michigan congressman who was who doing his own revision of the tax code in secret which is probably as it evolved disciple.
Well I think he's doing with baucus but -- was I think he's doing his own plan.
And I think -- and baucus aren't -- but I do not think.
That it is in collaboration.
But to meet the real issue and I and I -- -- consisted -- discussion because.
Some -- the real issue.
Is -- -- additional revenue -- additional taxes for Obama is a condition precedent to anything.
Or it's the opening gambit in a wide scale negotiation I don't know the answer to that.
I think both sides have reason John to compromise but I am taken by Pat's point that.
It's not likely to happen.
The chain look the change that which is awful term putting change CPI only in Washington long -- It used to -- this is he revision that on the -- should have been made some years ago reflect the reality.
It's got the left upset in -- big change.
It's a small change it's small change in terms of -- -- -- and -- and that's what the president's -- -- do this doesn't deal with entitlements.
And we don't have a consensus in this country on entitlements.
Nor do we have been here about when we talk about tax reform I gave them now come for -- both samples boss.
I'll even go parties some -- -- -- -- flat tax.
Because I think -- -- -- lobbyists.
And would you get rid of the terrible deductions can't -- it.
Would you get rid of -- -- -- took you gotta keep those -- -- a depends on how good boy you have to charities of America we get rid of which are relentless and let's wipe them out but let's start with what I would -- -- I would get rid of local and tax deductions account federal.
But here you're not a category -- states -- -- -- it's the Blue States wanna spend that kind of money.
People ends in this in the red states should not have to someplace they wanna waste single broke let -- do it.
The you know our I would do.
And by the way I would get rid of the charity I was for low rates.
Innocent most of bowling simple -- do one thing the audio Motorola would not come talk about people about it getting -- corrupt charities are.
I'm just yeah.
But may not -- given to that subject about the charities but the -- what does but look people give money for charity.
Little more important what as a whole mortgage but what it may be it's one -- -- maybe not -- what you must do.
Use -- get rid of the key is because.
The tax code 25 -- -- amendment is for rough and Max Baucus if you put his picture -- the template please let me go right to my heart of my argument in the -- two.
This is what's going on PS 28 former members of his staff who were -- this is a great revolving door Washington.
He himself produced.
The plan from last August that was laid on the table but nobody would touch -- he and Grassley.
-- the tax giveaways money giving tax money to companies like Solyndra.
That the White House -- at the end of the fiscal they.
These are former staffers who are now lobbyists write it won't -- revolving ran out of his staff who aren't -- their successors that are now working for baucus right.
They are gonna say I wanna eventually pave the way to go work with.
My former colleague in that firm and make 800000 New Year's allotment do what he wants my right bill may also apparently we got to take a break.
Made contributions once they leave.
And the benefit that they have provided to their clients he's in the billions of dollars unions and then we'll get to that after a brief break.
Thanks for joining us and campaign.
For now political insiders what by the bush let us discuss a little bit about how that works to stand for goes to law firm we will do this thing was stopped when presented -- reaction lines -- there's a couple of.
This system what do we do for what we need to understand.
Please Wimbledon he needed -- understand Max Baucus and his staff early part of it with that.
That deal I said they gave away all the tax dollars in the fiscal -- deal of collapse but what -- -- don't.
What about Max Baucus and mr.
Grassley the Republican minority leader in thirteen to seventeen members of the committee vote -- Their -- this goes in both parties this is not partisan this is the political class against the people.
And the way you corrected I believe this but -- Hopkins.
About lifetime ban.
For all members of congress and all congressional staff from being able -- -- never -- and the other thing is what we have now is we have.
Siblings -- everything else -- I mean if you really want to get -- this is and how this is they've robbing of the American people.
They go in those rooms and they come out the 25000.
Amendments to the tax reform of 86.
Which work have all been geared at a comedy that the cost of probably billions in fees and contributions.
To rip trillions -- all the American -- -- give an example I got a twenty dollar bill -- let's say this is twenty grand.
And you're a senator your senator Tom Daschle the majority leader of the senate wants upon.
If I give you this money I go to jail and you take -- you go to to right.
But if I take this and give it to mrs.
Daschle run was a lobbyist for the airliner as a -- She gets the money they get the money.
I don't break the long -- regularly what he did which is big airlines -- all the money being picked up from 9/11.
And all right we'll subsidies with no give back by the airlines to improve their service and or you're not repeating a -- and that they didn't want -- in Washington right coincidentally she's living where it.
The senate majority were.
-- let me ask you sort.
-- lots by the whip Trent Lott -- Internet people.
Who was a pizza deal or Mississippi keeping became a major lobbyist that goes through I mean this is cool this is bipartisan.
Non ideological it is -- ruptured a big class.
And again and it it is it's it's this it and everybody anyone Washington -- that.
-- -- Talking about this yes but not Tom -- talks about it.
He's been on to -- I mean there are several other people.
I mean Ron Johnson's attacked the system but our job Coburn -- -- conservative Republican who has a good relationship with Obama.
And here's the guy that will lead if we get towards a deal.
He will be the ones leading the right but to this agreement but it worrisome because it taxes it is the failure to cut government that doesn't work.
All he puts up these programs we're cutting the White House tours and other things and things that are into the -- But you know that duplication -- another none of that stuff ever gets cut why because these lobbyists and everyone have interest in its financial.
And it works -- you could cut don't you think you could cut the budget really caught.
-- -- program if somebody winning.
-- Coburn three garnered an eighty billion in the federal budget of duplicate that service so let's say could cut 200 -- of the creating.
That's 200 billion.
Then the GAO said a 110.
Billion a year.
On miss payments -- a check is made out to Doug -- for five -- they send it to you and they never say way to -- we made a mistake we want the five grand back.
110 and 200 there's 310 billion a year.
That's more than savings in ten years on -- CPI.
For any of these cuts.
It was someone.
What do those authorities think that there's no mentality than what does not mentality once once it got the once big government vision the way people on their own lives -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- In the electorate that would recycling is small number 75 B percent and then doesn't why aren't the politicians doing -- because they -- this is a self perpetuating class.
Which use of people who will be.
Who will be part of the establishment in the people from the outside was slip and occasionally of Ron Johnson comes month.
That mean its -- miracle physicists and -- -- down.
You have to have a can platform for this you were involved within effort last year which I believe it that it had.
If it hits to go lunch first to edit anti establish a platform which may have been inherit the opposite -- -- day.
But Americans -- -- That was great response couldn't get a candidate but if you would have -- message would have found a candidate what you I don't think you find candidates OK I -- Monday.
-- here says.
I can't take it I gotta run you work for the but most successful Ross Perot.
And no only for joint -- was not so as to exactly so what we -- is -- -- better Ross from our public Jimmy Carter was set when.
Publicized the most my -- of insurgencies.
The fact of the matter though in this case.
We need to build a message it's there in -- your response and start looking for some and I'll guarantee you this.
There are 300 some million people in this country and there is somebody.
Who could be a new Abraham Lincoln or origin a person or something to -- -- in the -- Noble we -- go -- not somebody would give -- the money's gonna find you.
Abraham Lincoln didn't get components by anybody I don't know it was -- but somebody candidates -- good ones are not -- and I agree I agree with this but understand this into you -- bit it's -- it if you -- -- -- -- Well they must prove in this country because the media says it.
Doesn't exist ever wants his -- this.
I picture -- three buster several hours expended gate -- right platform that would blow the hell out of the country if you put that I'm not support maybe somebody was searching.
It's me well.
I don't -- I think more likely is the candidate is gonna help write the platform he's gonna feel -- so greatly impeached so when we ask your country of 300 million.
Why hasn't that person come forward.
Because it is -- -- -- your whole life you're going to take your entire life.
And take on this entire political establishment the -- hate you except for a few places like fox I think.
We'll give -- -- fair shake but generally you're not gonna get a fair shake your family's gonna get.
Everybody in your family's gonna get out -- is something I mean forget it he's had a rough go for.
Perpetuates itself he failed establishment class you political class and up.
For pet would let us out by crushing anybody will actually -- just was crushed what do you make of that -- While I was that was.
I just on the media coverage interesting I mean was -- -- must.
She would know she was forty out but they were to go to court they would come -- negative.
Came to DC no they were gonna aggressors -- did I think she did and everybody knew it.
And you know they do native Richard what I -- though was the media coverage of black Europe which is that the -- -- may have been bugging was an issue.
Unlike you some confidence that he.
I think it's it's -- -- -- deposit.
She -- but she crushed herself she was she was not can't be working with the senate race in Kentucky while you're.
In that Tennessee democratic delegation last September.
At the Democratic Convention got.
Pave the way to run by may be living in the state she was born in the state raised in the state but.
Left the state so.
Well another Iraqis and nothing I filed by the -- McConnell is an interesting creature to me he is he so afraid of a Tea Party challenge from his right.
That he is basically set up -- an -- in any of these negotiations in the senate.
He has -- an -- -- reading your email alert up.
The Republican Party it too disastrous set of results are -- one of them disaster.
The other not -- a got a ton of what we -- you're just running out of time -- sum up by saying two things one again.
Very very useful and -- conversation.
Second will be back on Sunday at 530 Fox News Channel.
For political insiders two -- a couple of minutes early just to make sure we don't start couple minutes earlier as we did yesterday.
We'll be back 1030 on Monday to continue this conversation.
