-- to another major story that is sort of been lost in everything that has happened this week.
All the breaking news -- gun control I your member this up bipartisan piece of legislation being put forward by senators.
Mansion and to me for extended background checks.
Now appears that that legislation might be in trouble all the votes that Johnson -- -- senior politics editor of folks he's dot com.
-- joins us with an update on this -- -- in terms of votes.
Right well you may have heard it's a bit of a chaotic afternoon on Capitol Hill with suspicious letters and suspicious packages.
In between all that as you said there's going to be a very significant round of votes starting in about 4 PM our time.
This afternoon and where they are is is not looking very good for the sponsors of the legislation and for the sponsors.
The amendment -- just mentioned it's on background checks.
Now what's happening today -- is going to be votes on nine amendments.
But the one everyone zeroing in on is the one sponsored by senators mentioned to me.
Which would expand background checks but not by as much as democratic sponsors originally envisioned.
So this is a measure that's meant to try to lure over some skeptical moderates and conservatives you know it gun rights districts.
And and try to seal -- some elements -- the bill finally comes up it might actually have a chance of passing -- -- goes down as a very very strong chance the entire bill goes down.
And where they are not to get too much into the math but Democrats -- -- trying to sort of get this through.
Need sixty votes and in short it looks like through there one -- -- short right now and so far I've not gotten to that magic number.
