Was -- headline.
On salon dot com -- web site.
Expressing wishful thinking.
That the perpetrators they still unknown for -- in Boston.
Was in fact.
Say a white American.
And this is power play and things are getting -- years.
And I'm -- the way that things are getting weird as time passes from Monday's attack in Boston.
As people don't have enough information to work with an -- drawing.
Sometimes divisive sometimes -- conclusions.
About what is going on with this investigation and who is to blame it's a matter of great consequence not just in terms of solving the crime.
And figuring out who's behind it but also in keeping together we can sometimes be it rather.
Truce between liberals conservatives and others.
On this question we will talk about that we will talk also.
About the two pieces of legislation moving forward in Washington today.
Which increasingly both.
Could be affected by what's found.
In the investigation Boston.
Legislation on gun control -- legislation on immigration but taking steps today who talk about both of those.
But before we do.
Let's get the latest from Boston with our friend Molly Line Molly.
Hi -- the investigation.
One of the biggest developments that -- had just in the last 24 hours is.
These pictures that were -- essentially crime scene photos and it really speaks to what investigators were telling us of the press conference they held yesterday afternoon.
I'll regarding -- bonds that were set up here in Boston.
But then the likelihood any evidence just from these photos -- government investigators are telling us is the pressure cookers were involved.
These devices I have been used in multiple bombings overseas they were used in Mumbai.
And this will help investigators they believe that this sort of develop a signature around what they found -- hopefully leave them.
To find who the person or people are there were responsible for this but at this point.
Very very little information that's coming out on that investigators still trying to determine if this was based domestically here in America up plot here developed in the USA.
Or perhaps a had a greater connotation or international developments.
Some of those pictures revealed what investigators have told us about the shrapnel being put in the -- bonds.
Ball bearings spiky points males being in these bombs and other metal parts.
As well as black nylon bags of these bombs had been placed in black nylon bags.
The FBI is calling for anyone with information.
Pertaining to what they saw the Boston Marathon -- to share that information.
Of course over 2000 tips have come -- that's a lot to -- thrilled in these early hours as this investigation is just beginning to get under way.
Also worth noting -- photos in WH DHI's channel 7 NEWS here in Boston -- in the local stations.
I had that we're given to them and they of course forwarded that -- to investigators.
But they showed -- side of the racetrack just moments before when the bombs went off and in the moments following -- essentially shows a bag next to.
The sidewalk just inches away from spectators and also just a few feet from the runner's high investors will be poring over all of these photos.
As -- continue to ask for more interesting developments and just within the last ten hours so.
From the Associated Press they're releasing.
This mom was so powerful that -- pressure -- top the top of one of the pressured her -- was actually recovered from the top of the Boston building Chris.
Wow Molly Line another -- as Virginia and we thank you for your report.
They -- All right.
OK you know who knows stuff.
Charles -- does that's a true fact I know it I know it's true because -- read his column in The Washington Times he knows things.
It is often delivered with certain the serve at this but it is definitely steeped.
In awareness -- so about city which is also a province in Pakistan.
Here's what I wrote about today you can judge might work yes as he was on the my editor long ago.
But the here's what I wrote today when I wrote today it was that.
The longer you go without -- and you hear from Molly Line we're just even still just looking for details -- thing about the pressure -- lit.
Being blown all the way on top of the building that very powerful -- We're still looking for details but we don't know who's responsible.
And we don't have any good leads about who's responsible.
But that does not stop anyone seemingly.
From offering lots of conjecture -- shared with the Internet at the beginning of the show that headline from salon dot com.
It hoping wish it.
That the Boston Marathon -- as a white male and certainly on the left.
Some folks on the right.
Have engaged in political.
-- attacks around this.
That certainly on the left the politicization of this even linking it to the sequestration and other things has already begun.
The longer we go with Al leads the worst this gets right.
Yeah absolutely and admitted it it is really shocking to it to look at it travesty like this where you have because there is this vacuum.
And and you have these people that stepped in and they felt it was politics is so disgusting and it is so.
It's so -- you know watching that do the footage of those America it is people that -- -- the bystanders and witnesses.
Who ripped off their clothes and toward them -- turn it gets.
And saved people that were bleeding next to them.
And I mean to me that's the response that that makes me proud to be an American.
To sit sit around and in this into this crap now.
Where you have.
You know you have these people trying to politicize it give an edit in -- on both sides you have people on the right you know.
You know President Obama went to great lengths to sort of avoid using the worst terror in his first they came right out afterward okay yeah.
A bit limited management report to Dick Dick -- that was a political decision that he made to avoid that which is stupid.
But what was just -- -- is all these right wingers went crazy over this and they've made a big deal out of it it's just like you know yes.
I think it's silly for Obama to care about politics about all that but whatever that -- for the right goes crazy -- -- beat him up you think it did that this a moment like that where the president is addressing the country.
After a horrific attack like this.
Might be a unifying moment and I and I feel like Chris there was a time when when that was.
-- expecting you to finally today.
You could at least get a day out of yes exactly and and and actually after 9/11 -- it was we -- months and nine years of of that afterwards.
And this -- this whole tenor this poisonous.
Cloud of of politics at its -- -- -- it to assess a situation like this is just it's so despicable and and and we saw after the new accounting.
They're very soon after that.
And the truth is that you know the vast vast majority of Americans are just heartbroken.
And they want to write -- -- it dated they're looking at -- TV screen saying.
Where do I write checks to give to help these survivors that's what -- sink in what are we get what are we what are we have from from our -- media establishment.
And and political establishment we have of what people tried to do to assume that it's well it's gotta be -- Islamic terrorists or it's got to be a white guy -- And angry about texting or whatever it's just it's it's a really sad.
A state that room.
The that writer and -- -- and others.
Are giving voice to something that's on the left that is if this is in fact an Islamist militant if there's an Islamist militant group.
As some suggest.
Is behind this that it won't materially harm their political -- -- That in fact it will make immigration.
Changes more difficult to pass that it will in fact.
-- that it will in fact cause what they say is of persecution.
Muslims -- peaceful Muslims in the United States and it will lead to greater civilian death poll.
Overseas as part of the drone airstrike campaign against Islamist militants.
So they feel a real urgency about this in a real anxiety.
That it that it would be somebody who is an Islamist -- Did they -- -- eight year old murder.
On the side of the street.
And they what is what is their first reaction -- what's -- political agenda and how to hide dancing with this it's disgusting and some of attack and to be fair.
Some have attacked Barack Obama over that I'm.
Not by no means I'm talking about all of them the people that that I generally agree with oneself as well as as as its although although you know that.
Did -- I feel I do you feel like and in fairness it is far more blatant.
You know on the left.
Barney Frank talking about unity but -- he's out yesterday he started talking about out.
This was the reason why we should raise taxes it's like well.
You're crazy handle because of the sequestration.
How are just saying that no tax cut is -- quote was you know tax -- would have prevented this from happening.
Roll these in favor of spending lots -- that security is expensive and -- is that it that you had to Peter King talking about how.
This just proves we need worst cameras on every street corner and I -- as people get your head out of your.
Yes wait wait OK before Charlie finishes that sentence I think we had better pause to refresh ourselves.
As far as soon as I did that he was going to always -- Virginia gentleman brother Kurt.
Now we are going to take a quick break when we come back we will move on to the business of the day.
Here in Washington which is to say.
We will also talk about the -- and scare -- going into Paris but I know something that you -- about -- Internet you probably care a lot less about what -- congressmen have and members of the United States senate have than you do about the good of the rest of the country so we won't we won't belabor the point.
And that we will do all all of -- act and also -- about immigration when we come back Charlie's gonna stick around.
So you do the same.
And those are a half dozen democratic senators who face a challenging vote today.
As gun legislation moves forward in the United States and it up to a vote that is Mark Pryor of Arkansas.
-- baggage of Alaska.
Max Baucus of Montana Heidi -- camp of North Dakota.
Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire and Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and this is power -- Now look.
The -- the ball is rolling in the senate right now even as we speak.
The floor -- are being made the debate is -- about the only component the only even marginally controversial component.
Proposed gun legislation.
In response to the shootings in Newtown Connecticut that's a -- to have did you mention senator West Virginia -- half of the half of the team behind the bill.
Bipartisan team behind the bill is on the floor arguing in its favor can they get to sixty votes what are the politics of this.
Let us talk about that went through Smart people who also tend to be fair minded so I think we have a chance.
Charlie hurt The Washington Times with the still and we are very pleased to welcome Alan -- he is of course -- -- contributor.
Fox News contributor -- -- -- And he is also the host of his own radio show and you follow him on -- -- Alan Colmes on Twitter Alan welcome back to the big show you one Smart person that's not me that yeah I think that fit your self degradation is appreciated help -- but I.
I have read it Charlie didn't miss Charlotte charities trying to manage expectations of zone since -- so Allan here's the question.
In there it is there is pessimism that even on this compromise to the -- chaos of the compromise.
To mean amendment.
That that's going to be able to get sixty votes.
-- and it's a shame this is all about -- you talk about the political aspect this is all about primaries and these both Democrats and Republicans who are facing people to the right of them.
In primaries being challenged or -- actually democratic situation being the balance -- the left and getting Republicans to the right.
And then this is all about pop playing politics for the purpose -- reelected rather than doing what 90% of the American public.
-- said they wanted to situationally -- 90% of behind increased background check to this mansion built with Toomey the -- mention bill.
Is really very mild in fact progressives are against it because it doesn't this -- holes and.
We -- points out there that there are.
Candidates to the left and cannons to the right -- lawmakers on this because you have finally.
You have gun control groups getting us out there spending money in races.
And getting involved Mike Bloomberg's group and -- -- for these days -- six democratic senators we showed at the beginning.
Who are up for reelection.
They have to consider are they gonna face of and attacked from the left in their primaries.
And then they get into the general election and they say now they're gonna have to hear from the NR.
Yeah and then all of this is very familiar to some someone like Harry Reid who has in past campaigns -- -- -- enormous -- to appeal to gun owners.
Including I think there was one.
And that -- -- what is -- showing shooting the gun and I think it well Wayne Lapierre of the inner it was a similar in the and its well.
So to unseat Harry Reid understands all of us and I think actually one of the problems that this -- the democratic controlled senate has right now.
Is that even Harry Reid is sort of it's not a very easy situation for him either because he could wind up in trouble.
If he wants to run again if you had -- -- let's.
It if you that's distinct group is no guarantee it will nomination ankle again.
Right exactly and it should also be were remembered -- Alan I think you'd agree with me on this.
That that if you look at this.
What is proposed here with these background checks it would not done anything.
The -- and shooting from happening the first place Collins who still would've gotten those guys.
And I don't think view is that any one particular piece of legislation.
What is stop anyone particular tragedy and I know that I don't think there's this background check issue is anywhere near far enough if you wanted.
I did -- did you ever prevent one particular horrific.
And I incident from happening we need liability laws so that -- get into the hands of the wrong people biometric so that if you buy a gun and you -- the registered person for that gun.
Nobody else could use it -- -- -- could perhaps stop.
That gun who -- -- -- mother from being used by Adam Lanza they're never think that can be done that shipping address.
Now -- I want to ask you this question.
And as Charlie simmers over the thought of having to put biometrics it is it is -- The I wanna ask you this for.
In talking to -- senior aide to a democratic senator.
And and proving this question about why.
Folks are rallying to the flag even on this compromise amendment.
The answer was this if it's not going anywhere in the house if even this measure is not going anywhere in the house is much harder to convince democratic senators to take a chance on something -- you would be politically -- About standing up for what's right and doing doing what your heart tells you to do.
And doing what you think the right vote is.
And let the chips fall where they may have rather than wild -- won't pass it anyway the houses -- Republican how to get a democratic senate of course so many things happened in the senate.
Are not gonna necessarily pass Muster in the house would you do -- the right thing is to do that's why we elected people.
-- could not agree.
More with them.
Yeah people should they should look at this bill and realize that it wouldn't do anything to to prevent future atrocities from happening and and therefore vote against it yes.
I'm not saying you wouldn't do anything to prevent future atrocities we -- I said it wouldn't affect this is it wouldn't have already.
Wouldn't have -- had -- been in place what happened in Newtown but they're -- other things that we could and should be doing this is just a mild measure that is only one step toward.
What should be much more comprehensive gun control legislation.
I'm just saying I agree if you with the -- you know on the concept that these lawmakers really should.
Stop worrying about all the polls and simplify only to have that -- into it which gets is what I would argue gets into these.
Ridiculous legislative battles Jones.
Well it's it is I'm encouraged by they've become a -- that you.
Seven straight -- but I am discouraged by the fact that what you agree on is the city the roads and pervasive failure.
So thanks a lot -- independent of the -- a comedy tonight.
We're biggest comedy team tonight that's right you guys you could do it well -- we always appreciate making time for -- -- -- Rather use day to salute wanna be as one of your favorites is going to be with us and frequently.
Charles Rangel another Charles will be with us and -- of course have a third Charles in the mix later when we get word from -- -- -- -- hammer so this is stay tuned for the exciting Charles act.
Finale to today's -- place.
We're under skirted by the fact that Americans.
Fair and balanced.
For common sense and filled with common sense.
Legal immigrants in the eleven million.
Living in the shadows as long as they believe we won't have future waves of illegal immigration I believe our bill meets that test.
And that gravelly voice man was Chuck Schumer is -- senator from the empire State of New York.
And that was him on Tuesday night filing what is this so called gang of aids 600 and some odd page.
They say bill on dealing with illegal.
Legal immigration and border security in this -- by welcome back back.
Somebody who knows a lot about the issue of immigration.
Is your friend and mine Charles Rangel.
Congressman from New York congressman Rangel thanks for making time for us today.
Thank you for having -- You have you of course you you I would -- -- your expertise the Internet a couple of ways here congressman one is.
You represent one of the most ethnically diverse districts in the country.
It includes Harlem and other parts of New York that is.
Lots and lots of immigrants.
What from what you've heard about this legislation.
Does this address the concerns that you have in your constituent.
Most of all it does first of all it's a terrible thing when you have a problem.
That you feel this so sensitive that you just can't talk about it.
-- years and years in -- is with the no eleven million people.
Working hard every day in the United States living in fear of being aggressive being here -- illegally.
And now we're talking about it and I think Chuck Schumer and they gang -- eight.
Has done a fantastic job the whole idea -- being able to bring the United States chamber of commerce.
Together with the unions -- about CIO.
And Republicans and Democrats they get that even by the senate this -- remarkable beginning.
Guess it's not something that's something we've seen a lot of lately.
Now I also want to ask your question about this.
From your experience on the Ways and Means Committee.
They're it's been a lot of discussion from senate Republicans especially about hidden costs and hidden expenditures inside.
This legislation as it relates to guarantee -- federal benefits.
And other costs meantime.
The proponents of the bill say look you have to also look at the financial benefits the economic benefits that -- from having more illegal immigrants paying into the system.
And promising that in years to come.
That it will be many years before they start taking advantage of benefits what's your take on that.
This is no question that when these people come out of the shadows and come had been working on payroll.
That we will be able to receive.
Like they need the amount of which we -- even -- Before those people who talk about the call -- as I said earlier.
Because people not to talk about people here without documentation US them.
-- other people that he is now within eleven million of fourteen million where they're receiving Nokia who praised the -- -- you don't find it in the budget.
But you go back to -- constitutionally.
We can't turn away from anybody that's sick from the agency can't.
So all of the people now will be able to join in with the American family.
And be able to get health care what you -- -- mass reduction of cost and if not reduction at least a substitute.
But what -- paying now -- we don't talk about it.
The last thing congressman.
The house Republicans are saying that maybe they cannot eat this -- hold.
That they have to do -- invited to time and can take -- individual resilient group provisions in the legislation.
If they start doing that what happens to.
Well I don't know why we have to have a Democrat Republican.
You on this -- thing.
We only talk about human beings in the basis of what America's all about and that is in the goods.
And immigrants is what this country has succeeded in using all of these talents in this -- just this just -- that.
The procedure is very I think we never had a procedure like this if they can get sixty votes in the senate it's going to be.
I package that they got to send over to the house I don't see how the house can open this up amendments.
The -- of some people that not sincere when they offer amendments.
They could do -- tried to -- the bill to kill the bill.
But if everybody has a chance to express -- abuse rather than accept.
The hard work that the sentences have done in a bipartisan work.
This bill -- unfortunately not survive in House of Representatives.
So I'm hopeful that this spirit that this that it has worked and some of -- just a little bit of it.
Might prevail in the house so we can get something done.
That American economies could be part of.
Congressman thank you for your generous sharing your time and of course we're always looking for expressed -- like a million bucks you think you.
Now look here's system some of some of what you have to say Internet.
He got -- My tank says.
That's -- -- gun legislation the right thing to do is if you want to change the Second Amendment then do it with two thirds of the house and senate voting on it around.
But that is not.
Action unconstitutional amendment is such is such a far fetched thought in these days and they can't even pass a budget it's hard it's hard to imagine.
Throw certainly are -- shows is yes quite quite well so let's.
Charles hurt we're short on time.
But the immigration legislation from practical standpoint do you see this actually passing this.
I think it's -- No Republicans are in real bad -- right now they're really scared they had a bad election.
And that this was -- a key issue.
For them and so I could see them sort of collapsing -- that goes along with it.
But I I don't know that that that is a good thing though because of course you know the problem has always been and I've never understood the strategy.
On the left.
Americans always would have been a whole lot more.
-- generous with the eleven million illegals here currently.
If they knew that the border was secure -- but two weeks ago and when John McCain in the rest of the gang were down there.
Defense behind -- I mean it is.
Absolutely and then and then they can put -- well but they caught you know okay well you know he had been having your silly little dog and pony show right there they wouldn't have caught him.
And and anything you talk to anybody along the border and then they will tell you that the border is not secured and end -- -- I love to -- chartering talk about stuff and talk about immigration but you know.
Charles Charles -- is a good analyst because he's never surprised by the fallen nature of -- -- nor any capacity for diversity among politicians.
We thank you Charles hurt you for -- time for us today -- -- Jonathan Hunt will come up next.
But first how about some power points.
And these -- points today are the way we live now.
Way we live now we're still trying to get our minds around what happened in Boston but I wanted to take a moment think about this your first PowerPoint is fifteen.
Fifteen that is the number of bombings.
That took place in Britain between 1989.
That included the London Stock Exchange that included big busy train stations but it also more terrifying way.
Including public bathrooms individual -- strange places as the Irish Republican Army waged war.
The crown in London and around Britain and it was very terrifying and could have brought things to a halt now of course.
The -- didn't the people who survived the blitz and survived everything else kept going.
Reelected Maggie Thatcher who kept the fight up in the north island of Ireland.
And did all of that -- -- second or point zero.
Zero that's how many attacks have occurred bombings.
Have occurred successful -- have occurred in the United States since September 11.
That was true until Monday in Boston.
We do not happy times makes people in England.
And Israel and other countries and even much of Europe have with these kinds of attacks these kinds of attacks have been part of life.
In many other countries in the west not something that we are familiar with the question is.
Will we or will we not learn to live this way with will this be part of reality for americans' -- but not but here's the third -- point.
Stiff upper lips.
The brits did it because that's what they do they carry out that you've seen the teacher that is now or finally act but it says keep -- and carry on.
And they do that's from World War II that's where they learn that which was be about your business and do what you do can we keep calm and carry out I don't know.
But we'll see we'll find out soon.
That was your power points for today and now as we like to do every day we want to leave you with the work from our French -- Us in the first World Trade Center attack I think we had the guy who rented the car within a day if we have no news on this.
I think is going to be really increasing anxiety in the country.
The -- that it's slightly out of control we don't know who it is the way there was an appeal.
That they made earlier today -- to the public is rather worrying and implies that they're not.
Really advance after a day.
I think -- people who start.
Start worrying if nothing happens when a day or two.
