Hi I'm Bill O'Reilly thanks for watching us and I politics now entering the Boston terrorism story we'll have that and our second segment this evening with the talking points memo but first -- lead story tonight.
An update on the terror bombing investigation.
There are some unanswered questions this evening for example did the two terrorists have -- what do they get the bombs or grenades -- -- got us why hasn't the wife.
Of the dead terrorists Karen -- and may have been interviewed by the FBI apparently she's -- up in Rhode Island hasn't yet been interrogated.
Also why has in the Obama administration declared the wounded terrorists to be an enemy combatant.
He will not be treated as an enemy combatant we will prosecute this terrorists through our civilian system of justice under US law.
United States citizens cannot be tried not tried rather in military commissions.
Well some constitutional experts dispute mr.
-- statement if you partner up with a foreign terrorist organization.
You become part of that.
It's about interrogation it's not about trial.
Now the Wall Street Journal is a variation editorialized subject to debt but by far the most dramatic question -- -- Is what exactly happened in the shoot outs left one bomber dead one police officer dead and the other bomber gravely wounded.
Join us now from Boston Bryan Bender -- Boston Globe reporter.
I'm Maria Cramer also a correspondent for the globe knows a lot about the Watertown shoot outs let's -- on this Kramer.
With the two suspects in Cambridge around 10 PM on Thursday night.
Take it from there.
Yes that's in the chaos essentially began.
What happened was that come upon officer -- collier was an MIT police officer on the MIT campus.
And for reasons that we do not understand yet and may never understand -- opened fire on him the way it has been used.
For that was an assassination by police.
Police have called it an assassination.
They move to hijack a vehicle from a man who was driving a Mercedes-Benz.
They take the vehicle and drive it Watertown.
They released the man.
They let him go but -- they leave behind with a man leaves behind it's a cell phone and that allows Watertown police officers and other officials to track them down because they came.
The cell phone and they find that the vehicle and Watertown.
All right let me stop you there I understand though there are two vehicles now one vehicle hijacked Mercedes and the other -- and -- -- -- correct.
Yes that the vehicle that was driven there was there were two vehicles -- -- vehicle driven that the selling a -- and then there's a Honda that was following close behind.
-- but what happened was.
Both suspects eventually and turn the Mercedes fans and TV and are with the hijacked victim for a short time -- -- they kill him.
We don't know yet there is a report out there that the reason -- Killen was because he was not an American and we cannot verify that ourselves but that's that's apparently what's out there was that.
They let him go.
Because he was because he wasn't an America that is surely -- had to know that is gonna call 911 so they get the -- We've got to get the thing they know where the Mercedes is in no way these two guys are.
And then one Watertown police officer finds that.
Yes yes what are some police officers finally began to open fire.
That says that the Brothers -- to open fire on the police officers is a very dramatic shootout.
-- actually and and and and and the Brothers actually fleet of vehicles and start shooting back at the officers.
The older brother temelin.
And -- his guns and his his his firearms on the officers -- to officers in order to draw him out.
On puts his cruiser in gear and begins to -- so it begins to roll down the street.
To drop out tackling talent starts firing on that car and as he's out there firing on the officers and -- around they are able to move in on hand and capture -- Now they shot at all I mean I understand there were very close quarters.
And they shot camera when he was shot a number of times right.
Yes yes yes he was struck by bullets.
It's it's unclear when he suffered the fatal injuries because.
And they're struggling with him as they're trying to arrest him and handcuff him he's resisting arrest his brother shoot out with the STV his brother got into the SUV.
And drives drive into the scene and -- over his brother essentially.
But -- a moment.
Run -- all of -- right and and carries and several feet with a car and the -- at least old out of the way one police officer was shot right in the in the shoot out.
Not only was -- -- shot but accomplish shop as well right.
A transit police officer by the name of Richard -- Donna he was shot in the leg suffered a very serious injury but is recovering and -- okay.
So then the younger and a nineteen year old he he disappears in the SUV -- drives away for a few blocks and then he gets out of the car.
-- -- chasing him I assume right.
Immediately he immediately did just that SUV and feeds into the night and what happens is an online manhunt where you have.
Hundreds of officers.
You know walking through Watertown creeping around backyards in the pitch black not sure if there's anymore IADs that had been set up that -- to detonate and kill anyone about this is a very terrifying night for off okay.
And that -- if I'm having -- And then everybody doesn't happen that the he goes into a boat and now more than ever -- blood and they called cops and and they -- -- become mister bend area that you there's a white field.
-- and his wife down and in Rhode Island and she still as far as we -- lies in the everybody FBI -- about the.
Well yes Caroline was married.
And they have one child and apparently she's living with her parents north -- come Rhode Island about an hour from Boston.
And we did -- the FBI visited her parents' home where she was living at least three times on Sunday.
What's not clear is whether they interviewed her officially or whether she has just been cooperative giving them information but clearly.
The FBI wants to know what she does because she wanted to take your and I -- you can take somebody in for questioning on the -- -- why isn't she -- And interrogation.
Well it's a good question though we don't really know we don't we don't know yet we don't want aspect we don't really know right.
And and it could simply be that she is cooperating she's telling them could make everything she notified she does have little -- it's a little strange is we're not getting anything out of the FBI about.
Are they interrogating her whatever.
We are getting reports that there is an interrogation under way.
With the younger I would tell bomber -- -- in the hospital shot in the throat so he shot himself in the throat.
And wounded -- -- what's he do mr.
-- you know.
-- -- Yesterday officials were saying that he was not very good shape he certainly wasn't able to speak but apparently is communicating.
He has answered some written questions I think the focus at this point early in the early interrogation has been on public safety issues in other words.
Whether accomplices are -- -- bombs they need to be defused that sort of thing but clearly.
You know he's in the hospital he's handcuffed to the bad he's now been charged.
And you know they are gonna wanna get everything possible that is a word yeah is -- word that he's cooperating.
We have any guidance on that at all.
The reports that we've heard is that he has been cooperating to the extent he physically can't at this point and he hasn't given up public defender he's been assigned to public defender.
But you know again he's in pretty bad -- -- had -- wound to the throat so afflicted it seems.
Yeah I mean we know he's -- that chip visited doctors there are the best in the world -- -- one final question for you.
A lot of people say happened here in a shoot out with a number cops and you jump and an SUV.
I knew -- what four blocks are I think that's at the water town police that she said.
How you get away I mean should the guys in the right on now on them honest -- was there anything that happened there that gave the guy an advantage to get away.
That's a great question and I need to be honest I don't know the answer to that yet I think what was happening though you have the confusion.
Of the rest of the brother everybody struggling with -- in any plows through the -- of officers and runs over his own brother.
That is a very confusing change -- using chain of events and he very quickly ditched that car and ran off into the night.
-- fading away so so it's it's it's a good question but I believe the confusion of that moment.
Is what could have helped him evade authorities as well as you know this incredible action of of running over his own brother has eluded police happen.
Right something about -- -- about -- Garnett that is -- point out that I think one element that's added into this is the fact that.
One of the Brothers it seems or at least they thought had a suicide vest or had some explosives on his person and I think from a law enforcement perspective that's gonna change the -- and well absolutely that's like a Google -- that I thought you would any suspect Israel -- guys are throwing explosives that the cops -- and what -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
