Fox News alert and returning to our top story now Boston Police announcing the -- the arrests of three more suspects.
In connection with the marathon bombings case.
Two of the men described his classmates of suspect Joseph -- -- and I am at UMass Dartmouth.
They could be charged with giving some kind of assistance or -- to the two main suspects Joseph Carr and his brother.
Police say the man went to Joseph -- Joseph -- -- apartment and took some computers and other equipment.
At some point they decided to try to dump that stuff.
Both of these suspects are from Kazakhstan and are now being held at the Suffolk County house of corrections.
After being charged with violating their student visas at a federal hearing back on April 21.
The spring and -- Peter books Brooks a senior fellow for national security affairs at The Heritage Foundation.
And a former CIA officer.
Mike Baker also former CIA Covert operations officer now president of diligence LLC which is a global intelligence and security firm.
Mike -- no surprise to you that there are further arrests here.
Well no surprise in the sense that that this is what the investigators do I mean they've been.
-- peeling apart the lives of the two bombers.
And -- identifying importantly the associates said the contacted they had over their time and and we joke -- as you pointed out of it in the intro.
There -- these two individuals Kazakhstan student student visas.
They were possibly in violation a student visas because they want them to attend school while they're here.
But -- you know it clearly this thing is widening.
Big part of this I suspect will be.
-- carried out overseas but it is it is very important understand that these investigations they have to be allowed to work through the process.
And it's not like an episode of CSI's so I would.
Caution every -- -- that has been out beating.
The FBI repeatedly.
Since since this thing took place to just back off the histrionics and allow them to do their investigation.
Mike if if these are good guys.
Look let's let me address -- to Peter I'm sorry these are guys who helped out.
After the bombings I mean does that does that affect the argument that that there should have been more red flags before the ball.
It's hard to say obviously this is breaking news John I mean the question is were they involved in this plot.
Or they just useful idiots.
That helped out college a college buddy.
We just don't know that at this point hopefully their detention will lead us in some direction in terms of that information as to whether this was a localized plot.
Or whether it may have even connections through them to.
To overseas so once again we don't want to jump the gun on it but we want it we do want to know exactly what how they were involved and whether they are part of -- got cell.
Or they were just college friends trying to help battle buddy said you know go get these this equipment and take it out of my apartment in -- never told them why so.
But what we're gonna happen there's a lot to learn yet.
And so my gears saying that those on Capitol Hill who are pointing to the the marathon bombings as sort of an intelligence failure.
You think those folks as you just put it should back off.
Well yes and in again we've all become conditioned to have instantaneous you know resolutions and who don't think that it again and operates like a TV -- but.
That's not how it works and and in the reality.
You know we identified the suspects in record time given what these -- what the state local federal authorities had to to work through.
So I again I -- I would just caution.
To allow the process to take place obviously there's always time in hindsight to look at what was anything -- -- but let's get the operational work done as a great deal of work is being done right now overseas.
To understand exactly to what degree time -- had training and and perhaps I was -- -- -- resources during his time over there.
That you know frankly we need to be working the other Russian liaison issue a lot more they're sitting on a very large file.
And they couldn't be bothered to release that information and in the early stages they have more information and they gave us when they provided a name and date of birth when they first were concerned about -- And and when he was over there and Russia they undoubtedly were surveilling and the whole time so they've got a lot of information and they need to start providing that information and a quick talking about how they want increased cooperation.
Let me turn your attention to the Syrian situation the president said the use of chemical weapons is a line.
You know that that -- red line that that should not be crossed.
Now we know that chemical weapons have been used Peter we heard the president say yesterday.
Yeah -- we don't know who use them.
What do you make of that and and what do you think our response should be.
Well I think the president put himself in a box when he made this threat and the problem with any sort of -- -- creation of any sort of red line is that if you're not willing to.
You know enforce that red line they mean nothing.
So the president I think -- -- is trying to give himself a little bit of wiggle room here and he's gonna he's gonna cover his tracks with investigations.
You know ambiguity about what what -- end.
You know -- in this the first reported this John as I understand it and course I don't know what the government knows is that it happened in December.
So I you know the president I think once again he can't make threats he can't create red lines if you're not willing to enforce them because it makes you look weak.
And of course to the Syrians they may see this says say you know they've -- -- green light or maybe just the yellow light about the future use of these weapons.
It's much I'm Mike does it doesn't make sense that the insurgents -- you know the anti government forces would have access to chemical weapons well certainly it is seeking continues on wind and it's been going on for over two years -- and you know frankly the problem is we -- you know they're at at the outset of this you could argue perhaps that we had an opportunity to exert some more authority some leverage some influence.
When he -- opposition was starting date to to come together.
-- that was the time if we're going to get involved to get involved now at this point it's a mixed -- a lot of the interest of the current rebel forces are completely counter to our long term interest.
And there's really no.
Good response it is no good solution so like I can sympathize.
With a White House but this is a problem they -- -- of their own making and I think I agree completely with Peter anybody with a toddler.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- And -- and that and that and that consequently -- that he crosses that and I don't back got my threat I'm done.
Yeah I think all of us parents appreciate that analogy Mike Baker and Peter Brooks both whom have years of experience.
As CIA operatives thank you both thank you.
