A new call for presidential leadership it's coming from the pages of the Wall Street Journal Daniel -- -- rights.
The US and the world are only four months -- -- into mr.
Obama -- additional 48 month tenure -- as American president.
The US -- the world are at the edge of political and economic instability.
What's needed now is US presidential leadership.
What it looks like we in the world are getting instead his presidential -- -- or worse presidential.
Daniel and -- the deputy editorial page editor of the Wall Street Journal as the man who wrote those words he joins us now.
This started to at least if I'm reading your column correctly with the question the Jonathan Karl from ABC news asked the president I want to replay that for our viewers in case you didn't see it.
And get your reaction -- Mr.
President -- -- a hundred days -- your second time.
On the go until you put it seems everything into -- try to get past.
Obviously it didn't.
Congress ignored your efforts to try to get them -- -- sequestered cost predictability threatened to veto it got 92 Democrats in the house voting yes.
So my question do you is.
Do you still have to choose to get the rest of your agenda through this.
My if you put that which.
And as it goes back government all night and got -- You know they.
I think it's it's a little.
As mark twice.
There are rumors of my demise and it is little exaggerated at this point.
What do you think of that question and that answer.
Well I think the question put its finger on a problem that.
By and large people are Washington are talking about president having weather is agendas and trouble -- lost his mode -- The issue -- raising here is the presidential leadership.
Two things gun control which the you know reporters talked about and first question he was asked by Ed Henry a box which was Syria.
The president had said if the use chemical weapons in Syria they will be crossing a red line that will be a game changer.
Gun control after new town the president raises the issue of passing and gun control act insist that this is going to be done.
In both instances come crunch time when you really want the president engaged in leading to get done what he promised would get done.
He wasn't there he didn't twist arms to get the -- registration bill legislation passed and then when they ask them about.
Syria after three nations of established a chemical weapons have been used.
He says and we have a United Nations investigation going on we have to get the international community engaged that's not leadership that's follower -- Well and you know the press was kind of falling all over itself to you know and to -- to worship him really in in his first term.
If the white house press corps he is expressing doubt about this this president's leadership.
-- -- -- -- -- -- Well you know the white house press corps is about a lot of things are about presidential politics but they're also about the substance of policy that the country is trying to deal where it.
And I think in the first term.
Barack Obama was by and large politician in chief.
He's manipulated politics so there would benefit him and he got himself reelected now he's a second term president.
And I think second term presidencies tend to be about completing what you wanted to get done in doing it on behalf of the entire country.
The problem for Barack Obama is -- because he is so political he is really divided the country down the middle.
And what you need to pull over the people who win -- post them to support I think his agenda.
Is reaching out not just Republicans -- to the entire country and that takes leadership rather than as I say being politician in chief.
Talk about two term presidents there was a four term president Franklin Delano Roosevelt and and you point out that this president has compared himself favorably to that law.
Well Franklin Delano Roosevelt dealt with one of the greatest foreign policy challenges the country ever faced and by and large.
President's cannot keep the world at arm's length I think Barack Obama is trying to prevent himself.
From getting entangled in anything whether it's a rack I mean.
Syria the Middle East or North Korea.
But as FDR discovered Bill Clinton George W.
Bush even Richard Nixon.
The president of the United States has got to be engaged in the affairs of the world or the world begins to become destabilize that's why in Syria -- red lines become a little Fuzzy.
Red -- become a little Fuzzy I don't think the argument here is that the United States has to.
And you know get involved in Syria with troops on the ground but I think the United States has to be more heavily involved in what's going on in Syria in the Middle East right now than we have been so far because the region is beginning to spin out of control.
Daniel and -- deputy and what editorial page of the wall street journal editorial page editor.
But the Wall Street Journal Daniel thank -- to.
