-- I don't want to welcome back I'm coughing is -- been yelling at people for two hours.
Cheryl and Ellis Levenson.
They are -- married.
And there are others have enough of us why we should think twice before making children and -- -- -- senate comedy the other many many years ago.
And end of argument and it.
And the fans -- legally girlfriend that's got.
But -- but but I hope I hope -- like the flowers.
If they -- a beautiful.
Anyway -- you've written a book now enough of us why we should think twice.
Before making Jordan whether -- is also the consumer guy -- an award winning television investigative consumer reporter consumer advocate.
And Cheryl Smith Levinson is a licensed marriage and family therapist.
I guess some of the family.
And even married and that's to each other for 26 years so what why this enough about.
But the 29 now.
Really well this is the introduction of the London will be of the round number.
What what is it why -- you decide to write this book and -- enough of us why this whole issue of not having kids.
Either view taken away.
OK I take -- away.
We we wrote the book really for three recently voted for compassion.
-- large population of American children who live pretty sad lives and sometimes miserable life.
I'd like to add that we also have compassion for parents.
We need to have environmental concerns and we see irrelevant to the over population.
Do you -- And in terms of justice that's the -- recently wrote the book because there are cultural.
-- -- And -- that are stacked against the child free.
And also there's there are sort of emotional laws that are stacked against the child -- in the -- -- -- -- free people.
We have experienced this certain about -- prejudiced against that's for not having children.
Really and a year before -- -- that prejudice Ellis do you.
Support people not having kids do you want other people to take your lead and stop reproducing.
And we'd like them to think twice that's why the sub title of the book you know.
We really believe that most people you know out -- let me give an example send us to meet people yep kids you know we don't.
Really how come I say will be you have kids will say yes single health costs and usually the response we get -- How come.
And you realize they have given much the -- they have.
-- -- of us to do that.
Exactly it it's safe societal expectation almost of people you know I want that my own mother -- at one stage you have kids she goes.
I don't know I guess it was just expected us.
But there are two issues here -- of course the issue of how you've been as committed against people who don't have kids -- looked upon some kind of odd balls -- society but then the advocacy.
That people not reproduce which is quite controversial.
It's very controversial.
Very controversial and we know that were not powerful enough.
You know to be able to stop people from reproducing.
Q what if you cut where you could if you -- you.
I I mean I would say that two people.
There are so many children who need homes who do not need to come from your body.
It's like -- adopt a pet there's so -- Bettany comes don't go to a greater.
But there are ways to think twice about this and to really go into your heart and soul and out of step program.
We're really asking people to do is let's look at all the factors here.
And on many many of the -- sort of very sad and depressing things that occur with children and parents out there -- The -- -- near you can't really answer this from first -- experience but you're you suggest in this sad and depressing things out shine.
The joy of having a kid or the -- -- get from having children.
I I don't know if that's the case then every situation there would be people that would argue that but I think that's the case in a great numbers to.
NL if you say this is the most selfish and ethical and moral.
The other the most selfish thing that ethical and more people can do is have kept.
That's right in other words we've just been a lot of -- to get on a -- just selfish and I think you know the world doesn't need my.
Kids so I mean there's no shortage of people in the world.
But the first chapter ending up about -- called Frankenstein metaphor.
And what that means is.
-- a dream that he -- -- create the greatest human being of all time.
And what happened instead was he ended up with this monstrosity and he walked out on it and let this poor.
Each human monster.
-- fend for itself -- like the movie you know the book is completely different.
And people don't realize that that the children are subject to mental defects.
It's too physical and mental illness birth defects unhappiness addiction.
Bullying depression -- -- it goes.
On and on and we and we site real life stories.
In the book and we're saying look you have to really really think about this -- I would say that most people in the world and not really happy at least not most of the time and you really have to consider what the risks.
-- I are such early you know you got to pass a test.
To drive a car -- -- get a certification to do all kinds of things yet to show like eating into a building but any two people who can reap a keynote -- with a parts fit.
Basically can have kids.
Yeah and it's wrong we we don't have training for being care -- What are the things we say in the book is you know -- people fail having a -- that the ultimate act of creativity.
We say well you know then wrapped -- just about the most.
She's on November and -- do it by themselves and live on forever.
-- -- Let's get into this I yelled hello -- of the negative.
Impact that kids have on their parents.
Well if you think about premature babies -- -- seeing.
-- EST for their parents we deal with this -- about where.
Parents have to leave there newly born treat me baby in the hospital for sometimes weeks and months.
And they experience -- that the parents experience is terrible trauma about death.
There are so there -- kids who are drinking more.
There are kids who are sexually assaulted more -- Just think about it -- just something very current.
Would be that the family's source suffering because those three girls were taken.
Molested and life for ten years I can't imagine a parent not blaming themselves for things like this.
Also the environment -- the fact that there are only so much natural resources we have available to us.
You know right now we're consuming that renewable resource is at a rate of at least one and a quarter times -- the -- can produce.
So we're actually sucking out the natural resource -- And in a way that there's no way to replace them and -- reduce our populations.
Also Cheryl that kids are often -- tax deductions.
There -- advantages that.
Families with children get from the government.
Also if you're married by the way you get some advantage with taxes so the government which although they claim they don't like to do social engineering -- -- -- -- -- -- that.
Oh definitely they are and we we do go into distant enough about.
Pretty deeply about how.
People without children actually in -- case pay more taxes.
That people with children.
Net and violent yet you know and according to -- economics since 19867.
Million kids who disappeared on an appeal heard about this.
But -- and so many people -- taking deductions for kids they didn't have.
The government put in a requirement that you have to provide Social Security number for each reduction in your tax return.
And in 19867 million fans and kids disappeared.
I see good Jay Leno in the back of the -- did he do the specifically for your book.
Yeah I was it important that yup and he doesn't have kids.
It does not he -- his wife decided not to have children and they've -- -- particularly as an activist and has given so much to the world.
Even if they chose not to have children.
And yet you know again there is a societal.
Bias against those who don't have kids you're supposed to have and post them the right number of them too if you only have one that's not a good they give more than three you pretty messed up to go also I think about how many -- -- -- -- if you have to.
Right you -- very interesting you brought up the one child the issue because.
Actually one child does very very well because the parents -- usually have the money and the time.
Studio with that one child and give that one child the best that it's possible manner.
Well thank you both primitive book is called enough of us is available at Amazon -- -- Available anywhere you can buy -- it's also available on our web site they'll let me say that.
We really invite people to have some dialogue about this whether they agree or not our web site is enough dot.
That's her and tell you didn't.
You can -- get the book through the web site as well it's actually the least expensive way to do it anyway you do it.
