And welcome to a special outdoors edition of fox car report at these secret -- -- off road proving ground.
And Gary Gaston -- with me today Dave -- founder of American expedition vehicles makes this a pickup truck version.
Of the Jeep Wrangler you can't get this from the -- -- you can't get it from these guys how long you've been in the business of -- -- How he started in that 1997.
And sort of in fifteen years now.
Pretty -- industry was just something you wanted to do or was something not being done that you.
Thought I needed to be.
Yeah it kind of started out as something wasn't being done that I thought needed to be done and just happen to be in a business plan class and university.
And had to write a business class or did that and then ended up -- -- I -- fifteen years later.
Started out doing parts that kids that doubles -- sort of assessments thing and then it kind of grew from there.
Yeah actually we started.
With the idea of building long wheelbase wranglers and and it and outfitting them and it turned out that we couldn't buy the parts of we -- -- so then we ended.
Getting in the manufacture our own parts that were equality that we want to.
Asked cheap fares what they want most from a Jeep that Jeep doesn't give -- the first thing here is a pick -- version you are doing that now.
Following that goes so popular he's -- hopefully.
Well we we came out with the first pick up version in 2002.
And this is our latest this is a four door version and that is just came out and it's just certainly by plant now.
-- part does sell.
Think of conversions you comply.
But -- standard Wrangler unlimited plan for goods and artwork.
That's right the the most part kit that is basically compared to four -- into -- -- -- pick up.
This is actually afford or picked up with -- six bad citizens about forty inches longer and if it's quite a bit different.
You're staying in the frame not just adding some moment that you actually extend the buildings as well Ryan we're adding room on the back and that -- wheelbase and basically changing everything.
You do this yourself what's -- -- -- -- those thousand in -- this is a honeycomb composite one piece bed so.
It's actually stronger than our previous generation -- that.
And if someone there's a 140 pounds lighter.
And our previous generation and kind of that's what we would -- to do in this whole kit is keep the weight at a net zero gain.
So when we take a former Wrangler -- -- in the picked up we didn't want that anyway and so by doing the composite bad reaction with a much stronger and stiffer product.
Obviously buried and almost corrosion proof.
And we just -- -- a much better product with no waiting obviously you've done a lot more to -- -- -- Tell me some of the other ball for -- modification -- -- -- so a lot of what our company does make a complete system so.
From the front bumper to the rear bumper and everything in between it's kind of -- together.
There's a lot of interesting features the way the front bumpers designed with the -- mountain.
The way it's designed it can -- approach angles and you know just generally protect -- car.
All the way to the rear bumper which actually has like seven gallons of integrated water storage.
The suspensions and specifically tuned just in this track.
We make the wheels we made.
Basically every kind of component on this -- we actually manufactured.
I get why someone -- want to pick up version of a Jeep they don't make it you also do -- -- conversion from -- as well that six cylinders pretty potent.
Who's looking for that 407 horsepower and the other than.
This little obviously the enthusiast I NG has a large following of enthusiasts.
I don't know exactly where they came from but everybody want to be eight energy.
And it's amazing videos funny because these people and especially into his heart back in the seventies when -- we had a -- and but the original VA having -- -- -- in this car was much more powerful -- that he would ever was.
You know it's.
Chrysler does make -- six point four liter had me with 470 horse and we can put that in this car perfectly.
They're just makes a really really nice car makes it in the something really special -- they may surprisingly don't do themselves good as they sell some -- they really don't have to lose.
Well that in the fact that I think it's they're from a product planning inside the Grand Cherokee is their high end.
Vehicle and I think they -- the -- for good reason.
One other thing on the -- Wrangler and there's just wish list is -- diesel version Chrysler is now bringing diesel -- in -- Kennedy's version of the Grand Cherokee is this something -- let them look data that.
Possibly so that you can do in the future and.
Well you know they make a Jeep Wrangler in Europe.
-- -- diesel and I'm hoping to see that come in the states at some point.
I don't know if they will I think from what I understand the US and European regulations are -- line so.
Hopefully that may make sense sometimes future.
Lot of Tug the -- -- a Smart enough when the next generation Wrangler comes and a couple years that they actually are gonna do a factory.
Pickup truck version.
Wouldn't do that hadn't taken to the next level.
-- actually manufactured -- -- it might be one of the best things for us.
-- told from a business side this is not our most profitable product this is kind of that halo vehicle for us.
And it would be awesome because then if they were building -- 120000 of them we can we could manufacture a lot of eccentricities.
Which actually -- of business I have much -- profitable.
And doing a -- volume.
