Hi I'm Monica Crowley in for Bill O'Reilly thank you so much for watching us tonight let's get right to our top story.
Still no word from President Obama about what's really going on with our unraveling federal government.
As scandals at the I arrest the NSA the DOJ and the State Department continue to spiral out of control.
We the people still do not have answers from the man in charge.
And the folks are fed up.
He's a commander in chief he's the president he acts as if he's just stumbled upon the scene of an accident.
And he's catching up and he's done that throughout his presidency the lack of leadership and his administration from the top.
From the president I think is quite unique this is -- strategy -- leading from behind which is simply a kind way of saying no leadership and our.
New polling suggests Americans agree.
According to a recent Fox News survey only 40% of voters think that the president is honest and trustworthy.
That's a 25 point drop since April 2009.
If the president wants that dropped to stop he should take control of the chaos and give the people some answers.
Joining us now from Columbia, South Carolina with a different perspectives Dick -- -- million -- the former democratic chairman in that state Dick welcome.
Thank you not so we just saw on the honest and trustworthy numbers are taking a a steep -- -- here for the president and now this week gallon up.
Showed his job approval down to about 45%.
-- of the compound in effect of all of these scandals.
And as you just heard Charles Krauthammer say a real perception.
That the president is a wall in his own job when you look at these poll numbers he really is taking a hit is -- Well I think you know poll numbers go up -- poll numbers go down but when you look at the I mean that you.
Here I'm in Columbia, South Carolina and if you walk up and down main street out here.
Nobody's talking about an NSA nobody's talking about Ben -- nobody's talking about the IRS you don't they're talking about the talk about the inability of congress.
To pass a budget.
But to do something about the deficit.
I mean in the presence for -- to to be -- and create jobs improve lives so.
I know this is in Washington is is great sport but folks on main street in Columbia, South Carolina.
Don't care about well did does as Harry Truman once said the buck stops here it stops with the president he is the guy in charge there should be some accountability and just.
From a political standpoint this cannot be good for him.
To have this constant drumbeat of scandal and new revelations and drip drip drip without having some real answers coming from him and his team.
But I think two things one he's not running for reelection so this isn't about how it's gonna play in the next campaign so that's OK too because he's not ready.
-- -- that okay that he -- I think he.
-- the American people -- -- Well I mean what's he gonna give an answer on -- -- and the NSA so called scandal.
So we find out the NSA has been intercepting.
Or -- looking at patterns in telephone calls emails.
Electronic communication to catch terrorists they've done that they states stopped several terror plot saved American lives you know what.
I don't know anybody out there that thinks that's wrong.
Where's the scandal I don't see a scandal is this is there's no there's no there's no beef here there's no.
There's nothing to it.
Well let me get let me just give us because we we -- the NSA situation in a broader context in the context is.
But we've got some very severe I think I abuses of power that we've seen in the IRS also the Department of Justice under Eric Holder.
We also have been -- where we have four dead Americans and no answers to the NSA comes to us in -- bigger context.
My question to you is where is the president of the United States he has shown no -- on this stuff he's shown no availability on this stuff.
I would think if I were president who was innocent of all of the charges and allegations against me.
That I would be shouting this from the rooftops.
That nobody in my administration certainly not me none of -- -- guilty about this we're gonna get to the bottom of this and here's how we've seen none of that from this president.
Well I'm going to be we'll get to the bottom of watt NSA admits because this guy this and I think this -- to trader.
That leak this information put al-Qaeda and other folks it would kill you and me and hurt this country unnoticed on how we do things what's he supposed to say.
We do it it we're at war this is something you do during war now -- -- IRS.
All the investigations indicate that some.
IRS employee in Ohio began began doing this.
Arm and that the president had no knowledge of that -- -- ahead of the IRS they fire the people.
That that we're responsible for this what else Elson aren't exposed to do I mean I think this is eight again taking -- focus.
The press is doing his job and by the way this comment that he always lead from behind I got.
One word for -- Obama care.
The most sweeping change and health care law in the history this country.
He got a pass in his first term.
And the economy overall popular -- hit Obama and I'm very unpopular and even you and I and another talk about -- it might might.
Is that there is policy.
Whether it's CI RS DOJ Ben -- foreign policy there's policy and then there's politics.
And then both of these cases this president has not gone before the American people -- call a prime -- press conference as presidents once did.
Let it all out and then I thought -- he can really do that because that only works if you're not guilty.
And maybe that explains why this president has not -- before the American people and laid out all the facts.
Well -- -- maybe it's because I'd I'd I'd argue with you that it's just not -- -- important compared to what are we gonna do in Syria.
What are we gonna do about the budget what do you do about jobs when we get about things that really matter rather than chasing a rabbit.
Congress just didn't bank and how -- we don't really hear from him on those things either do you think it's very early yesterday -- -- you're from that's yeah.
Syria and he told us he was gonna meet with the G-8 next week and -- so he's got a -- -- for another week let me ask you -- before I let you go.
This steady erosion of trust here you see it in the honesty integrity numbers are starting to see it -- job approval.
What's -- president loses trust of the American people about said the game is over.
Don't you think he needs to do something to staunch the bleeding.
I think he's done a lot to stop the bleeding -- and let's let's put this in historical context that they ever find those weapons of mass destruction -- hopeful we sent our.
He's American men -- you're really gonna go to that lay down your really I don't even you know really I'm going to -- I'm going to bush.
Well that's that's speaks volumes right there I want to thank you so much for spending your Friday night with us thank you so much this I don't even.
