-- in the personal story segment tonight immigration causing a major uproar in the nation's capital.
As Republican opposition to the senate bill grows and GOP infighting threatens to kill it.
Joining us now from Fort Worth, Texas is immigration attorney Francisco Hernandez for -- -- nice to see you -- welcome back.
Think you -- Crowley thank you for having me pleasure now look I think that US immigration laws should serve one purpose and that is to protect and advance.
Our national interests.
I don't think that they should be there to advance anybody's political agendas and yet here we are we've got the Democrats trying to do this to lock in their 70% advantage among Hispanic voters.
Which is what President Obama got back in November.
And also you've got Republicans running around like crazy in desperate and not -- Tried to go down this road as well in order to try to make up ground with Hispanic voters.
I don't think you're any good policy can come of this and when I look at this amnesty bill I do not see -- good policy.
Well first of all.
Dorothy Hannity most conservative matriarch of Johnson County Texas said it best.
We have been clamoring for the federal government to act on this issue for the last teen years why are we now getting afraid to do -- Republicans need to embrace it is senate to reveals bill.
It's time to put proposals on the table and do what we've been arguing.
That we should do let's negotiate let's debate it.
Quinn both sides come unhappy from the negotiating table then you'll know it's a good deal -- since I -- -- I refuse to negotiate.
I don't know anybody go on the GOP side who is saying no reform needs to happen everybody's saying yes we need to fix this broken system.
The question is what exactly do we do here and what the conservatives Republicans are arguing -- for enforcement first.
I don't think we -- -- federal government who is serious about border enforcement if they weren't they being enforcing the laws on the books now.
Enforcing the border now certainly over the last thirty years which they haven't done they haven't built the fence that they promised to do in 2006.
Why should we continue that that border would be secure now after this bill.
But we knew that building -- -- was just gonna get -- -- are deeper holes we've been focusing on -- absolutely wrong way.
If it's a matter of national security we want to know who these perspective -- eleven young people are bring them out of the shadows get their fingerprint we can talk.
I'll give -- this won't talk citizenship later.
Doesn't have to be as -- is not a deal breaker and -- needs to learn that quite frankly.
But on the Republican side if you're clamoring for border security quit -- the proposals.
Where's where's what we're offering.
Two to make sure that the border is secure because it's so when tangible and it's so subjected to somebody saying.
Well let's not let your Republicans have put up amendments even of the last couple of days senator Grassley senator cornyn -- we can debate whether or not those amendments would actually be effective.
But let it come up on one thing that you said because we're talking about enforcement first and then -- a path to legalization.
Let me ask you about this.
You mentioned eleven million illegals how do we even know that that's the number I don't think we should be doing any -- on immigration reform.
Until we have some information about that population it might be -- million it might be two million NYT thirty million we have no idea.
In what is the best way to do it and haven't come forward voluntarily give -- -- metrics.
-- right and then you can proceed but unless and until your constant basic information about the population you're talking look at solution.
-- cannot afford to let people visit every other any taxes.
Well OK let's let's talk about that because a lot of people are saying if you do this bill this'll be great economic -- into the United States.
But what we're really talking about here the vast majority of these illegal immigrants.
Would be low skilled workers and low wage workers who are not talking about the vast majority being highly scared -- -- that would be -- an income tax bracket yeah and actually be paying taxes so I'm talking about.
Really bankrupting America you're not gonna get an in no new taxes they're gonna be more to know I don't all these entitlement programs.
Crowley let's just look at years and my Social Security benefits that these dairy farm workers are contributing into that they will be contributing.
All of these construction workers all of these dishwashers.
-- They're here war they're not here to get the glamorous executive jobs.
They know they -- that -- government in Mexico they provide an education of the opportunity that you and I get in this country has slats of the American bus.
They want it and they want to Bob they wanna pay for the -- for the ticket on the bus.
Why don't we give him that opportunity and at the same time satisfy your concerns that we need to secure -- border and national security.
We're all -- with no matter arguing against each other on that.
Well the opportunity exists and it's called legal immigration are right the big continues for any concern -- -- sincere thank you so much in MO.
