Morning I'm Doug shown and I'm here with my friends and colleagues to honorable -- And Pat Caddell we're here as political insiders as we are every.
Monday at 103530.
On the Fox News Channel and we're here to talk about not only the events of the day but what it means is people who.
Run campaigns worked in campaigns and seen the workings of politics and government from the inside John I want to begin with you.
The president's approval in the Fox News following the Gallup -- and announced CNN's polling is down to 45%.
Bottom line what is it saying what are we hearing about the president about the administration what what what do we know and why do we know.
I think the public is hearing all negative things now about the Obama presidency all these scandals it's a scandal every week.
There has been very little presentation.
Of a positive view of the president -- and NORTHERN IRELAND this morning I woke up and saw him speak.
The most empty speech I've ever heard said not -- And I don't know how much he's aware of the deterioration.
Of his presidency it is deteriorating in front of us not not.
-- -- -- -- Not water -- impeachment kind of deterioration.
Just he's dipping down to where he's becoming irrelevant.
-- Is this is John's analogy deterioration.
Of the American presidency apt is it something stronger how would you care.
Because not just the presidency I think all of these scandals and -- now only in this say they have don't -- Which is now exposing me carefully.
The division between the American mainstream country out there and the political class -- political leader in Washington.
And its interest being that as we've talked up for several weeks just how far the public is going to whom the work.
Even a little evidence they will overheat petered out this is not good in the spread of the and we should you -- we talk about some numbers and the spread of this.
The political system.
Because of the country has no competence in this week.
Well and it could be said that the leaders have no confidence in the people about.
I and I think of of the polling we all look at a lot of polls to get ready for the Sunday show -- today's show for everybody and we can't put it up yet but the one that we talked about a little bit yesterday that one Rasmussen asked this question will the NSA data.
Be used by other government agencies to harass political opponents.
Of people said likely only 30% said unlikely when I saw that -- the word that came into my head with men holding that.
They -- melded the public at melded the IRS going after the Tea Party.
He did this NSA thing that people -- Smart like pat said there at a bus they're saying.
The government is spying on their -- on their domestic political enemies which is -- How -- have you see -- I -- -- and and and look we have numbers and another poll here.
That -- and terms the IRS it's 68% of the American people believe even the White House I mean there's been no evidence.
I -- with the White House knew when you -- you know.
But you know it was 60% of believe they either knew or in fact were directing it.
We've -- overwhelming numbers and we've seen this in Gallup.
Fox the fox -- In terms of people believing.
In in here's an argument totally differs from Washington.
The view being all people don't care they -- they wanna be safe -- -- you know you don't understand.
Well wolf with a box numbers for what.
Point six okay so here's -- what's Obama administration involvement in higher arrests targeting.
Of conservative groups.
28% of people believe.
That they are behind the operation they're actually running -- 40%.
Say the White House knew but didn't initiate.
Now where I'd like to know is one outraged Republican senator or congressman.
Going on -- day.
Really on fire about this thing saying wait a second.
Seven out of ten Americans believe this thing is already up in the White House Stephanie Cutter we've gone over that the deputy campaign manager admitted.
Voluntarily she's in the White House meeting with.
Director shall one of the IRS who's in their -- 158 times rolling Easter eggs.
Once probably the other times discussing so -- -- has his own personal.
Easter egg rolls a hundred and yeah -- Simon and -- I don't -- going to -- and and in the lexicon of this thing as some fitness line like third rate burglary right now is over -- for the Easter egg roll.
Maybe you know when you have been in an interesting thing I think collapses in the big way as an in use and is meld this together.
Fox News poll came up question is -- acceptable prevents terrorism -- unacceptable and is elements of what these personal.
62 to 32 minutes -- and page.
You know you have -- privacy.
Restitution as a poll overwhelmingly voters say and -- you have specific targets.
What's happening is unique in -- what you're saying is this -- and omens on them doing anything.
Use that -- the need to fill in the public is already somewhere.
The need to fill in the information of the facts the view of what happened to get to the bottom.
They seem to be under a what do you think -- -- all of -- -- I mean -- -- -- -- Throw effect -- in the second but my take is the follow you have two parties and in party the Democrats.
Who bottom line one every scandal we'll go.
-- attitude -- either there's a good reason it happened in the case the NSA.
Or there's no reason it happened in the case of the IRS talked to them.
In the case of the journalists it's national security.
And nobody in the Justice Department appears to be willing to take ownership.
Anything and on by and Ghazi.
The Democrats attitude is it's old news the republicans' attitude is there -- answered.
Questions but nobody is building the scandals together and doing full throated attacks.
John you were in the Republican caucus what would you be saying to your college.
I I think I wouldn't be alone I think a lot of -- must be chafing.
Over this lack of response from the leadership of the house especially and about the -- but.
I would think in there are at their a lot of people like us in there who -- And Hungary they come from the grassroots a lot of these Tea Party guys you know they see this this is what they ran against.
And yet they're Republican leadership won't let them go laughter.
Now why not -- select committee Pat -- we're talking about this before the show why not have the speaker come out.
With some famous lawyer like eight David -- some noticeable man.
And hold a press conference and announce I'm just hired David or whoever.
To be the majority counsel and select committee to investigate this whole thing that government abuse of power and targeting the administration's enemies that seems to be -- EPA IRS and -- -- We're gonna look at all that we're gonna about select committee and were beginning today and I've -- there's.
Does that make sense well I think -- should I mean they have to do what I think it should be thank god sake in the medium -- -- which is he serious problem was never ball away.
But the -- we continue to have in both of these things -- problem.
You have when it gets to the NSA seasons.
You have do what I call the states those who believe in state power.
And those who are on the inside you have.
Intelligence committee you have speaker Boehner all these people but what -- remarked yesterday what I find just incredulous.
They are attacking this note and -- whatever people think about him.
He is leak is nothing compared to the leaking that came out of the White House part of the election.
The group they promised to investigate which I have been been -- and we have on this program as.
Com dollar -- base which is the Iranians have built our effort and successful -- To put a virus in to help Chris slow down their nuclear -- nuclear program.
As well as they did you know the seal team revelations all -- none -- that's been invested but here's the dog this embarking.
And I realized none of the Republicans Lindsey Graham.
Boehner none of the people who are screaming for this guy's head of ever gotten up and said we demand to know what what happened little -- what happens on -- This game of the if you were in the inciting getting part of the play.
You protect you -- position policy is it working out of the country.
Well I guess what I would ask -- it is.
What do you think of the Republican strategy which is basically.
Let this all play out.
Use Darrell -- committed the oversight committee.
To investigate everything -- ongoing hearings and effect and expect as the polls are now showing that the administration is starting to creditor pat does that make sense.
No I think the problem is we never get to the bottom of first -- -- first obligation.
Of an and that's why we have dividing government to some extent people want to use the bottom of the truth and he -- it.
We're not getting to the bottom.
We're getting -- scattershot outing on the something yes maybe about will work politically the drip drip drip.
But doesn't go to the fundamental engagement with the American people they have a right -- know it's that's simply a political convenience.
How can one committee investigate bank Gaza and the IRS we haven't even gotten of the senate say thank.
And and it's it's not a big committee doesn't have any great resources and -- chairman politically with some problems.
Would I controversial Seattle and -- I'm not.
Going against the guy but I just think it's too much for one committee I think.
I think Boehner needs to get ahold of this -- I was distress this morning to read an article -- the hill about half months coming up for Boehner I go all.
Maybe this is -- -- he's got to decide who's gonna head up which select committee now I read that thing no select committees.
It's all about the farm bill the debt ceiling the debt reduction plan that's all they're talking about -- -- focused on let's.
Focus on the question came -- possible that really gets to the -- of tying any of this policy.
And where in terms of the most -- but the note which is health care.
Obama -- we know in the polls showing it is more unpopular than ever as it's beginning to.
Be implemented or or not implemented or pursuing and they had told fox asks you really -- question.
And given the virus and this is something we have talked about loss -- -- be responsible and -- -- -- about theater Portland they can't even handle what they're doing.
Important to people's overwhelming numbers but what -- Even his serves 76%.
To six teams don't seventy -- including again reserves against two thirds of Democrats.
Only that it should be taken away from the IRS.
The Republican students useless here.
Up the fortieth time may repeal Obama and instead of going it talk about capillaries and it won't -- the jugular which is the force Democrat.
You say you want to keep the -- in charge they should be removed from us.
Now back would get some traction country those numbers were -- -- I was surprised that the market not the majority.
But three quarters of the country conclude -- Segment with a couple of comments -- in what pat Johnson.
First I was startled.
Startled by two things first the consistency of the numbers on every question and the strength of the numbers.
You mentioned that the other -- that there was a question you know do you favor or oppose the intrusion by the NR NSA if it potentially could stop terrorism stop a -- -- -- terrorist attack.
That was 5640.
They cite that as a positive will be located with 40% against it's like you guys have done to your.
Head do you want him to pull the trigger if he doesn't say.
The right thing.
In the face of all the evidence including -- gal Bob -- All of they all hang this -- one questions it all the American people want -- you don't need more willing to trade their their freedom war.
Security that is just not true.
With on that note.
We will come back in a second talked through.
More about the -- scandals and the implications for our political system and then at the end just begin a conversation which will continue next week.
And the Massachusetts senate race for John Boulware impacted -- I'm done so we'll be right back.
I have Doug -- on back with John probably and well acted out on the break we were talking about that good living so that the political insiders who regrettably our at or close to sixty will be with you for hopefully another twenty or thirty years.
Bring you may see a change in the politics of America really -- I would -- ago John do you see.
In the near future and -- fundamental change coming to our politics.
Near future being 2014 know maybe 2016.
And and here's how I think it's gonna -- -- I hate.
We're still one mega scandal away.
From galvanizing this thing we got a lot of things he NSA the IRS or Big Bang Ghazi is -- and -- -- -- Something's got to happen that just pushes the people the final straw -- camel's back that that that they say OK that's it.
Enough I'm gonna vote on all out that's and it's coming.
But not quite yet.
I don't know its interest -- see -- this the B how shops all the process will feature again this morning and these.
About how both parties are having trouble recruiting I guess -- the lead story that we've sort conceit that people don't want -- involvement program for instance you some places them.
That's an example of this I believe.
That it eventually.
When -- half to in my opinion is when you have seventy to 80% of the country.
We -- the government more action does represent them is not getting things done and Obama's here to this models and that's something government.
That the spending Americans believe can be.
Nobody above with little slightly -- poll numbers six we we have the video were the -- there's.
What best describes how you feel about the country's political confident and proud 43.
The best -- successfully going to do 71 pat what do you make of this.
I've been through it fits everything -- reason why people's compliments and how much they trust the government is in single digits of those who trust -- a great deal.
This is the -- at all with this investment anywhere in the reason it is is we have reprocess these self.
Protect -- in -- Generating.
And political system both parties -- Pete producing people who served the politics and not the sense of what the country.
It's also a sign of bad economy is -- sour -- over the future.
And the president of our economy I don't see that you read them you -- -- nearly everyone is so optimistic about the economy if you're going to hear tonight I've sorry I tore it back it's everything's great everything what is fact it's not great and that's why.
They look and -- attorney Terry why is Reagan and so on and on and it was his personality but.
The economy got better and when it got better to -- -- in the Oval Office becomes popular.
The that it -- -- turnaround the sense of defeat is totally and totally.
And also -- I hadn't teed up for him as did George W.
Bush after nine elevenths they both were handed a gift that Reagan was not and -- and they both have frittered it away -- Do you agree with John's analysis you know I don't think they have more importantly it was so much and best student and I knew we -- did this we wrote pieces about all the Obama would get reelected only by dividing the country.
The price he has felt that as a nominee and he's selling general and -- that's absolutely right we when we wrote that workable more than a year and how lucky we all of eleven we also said that health care.
Would fail and that it would get less popular not more -- yes and that was right Democrats in a panic.
But -- the Democrats remember what they have the stupid party on him sitting there.
Doing everything you can to help protect them on these issues as opposed to.
Part of there's only ten to protect the -- who -- -- yes is this is well and let him and we have about 45 minutes left.
And the question -- -- John from what you've seen.
You have I guess his name's Gabriel Gomez the Republican.
Running against longtime democratic congressman Ed Markey.
In -- state that is three -- -- -- one democratic Massachusetts with.
Of the vote independent.
John who's gonna win there how do you see the race.
Well I think -- he'll probably win.
I I think the race is fairly close -- been different polls one had double digits McLaughlin who pat knows that it basically with one point difference.
But then they sent out an interesting thing o'clock and -- saying this is paid for by Republican donor I have wondered about that but.
I feel that the previous special election the Scott Brown.
That one really have electricity and a and Scott Brown was of very attractive candidate and grabbed it just right when Obama and Obama care we're going down he went up and this one game Gomez is also attractive.
And has a great -- navy seal on Hispanic and all that hasn't caught on yet -- still week to go on me and he may be well.
Pat had to use it I see our guys think drug -- marquis has the edge -- because it's close.
I think it's relatively close the Democrats -- -- they poured huge amounts of you know the real thing work at Massachusetts.
Is to gamble we talked about political system -- -- -- some numbers on this in and use his sense Markey who by the way Gomez was eleven.
When Markey was first elected.
Mark he's a classic Washington insider I'm not an NC saying he's part of that.
There you go -- -- -- you.
People there is a feeling a need for change.
So it's still competitive but you don't have the feeling you -- should get that it is clicked.
-- Gomez -- at all so he's a competent candidate the woman that lost to Scott Brown was an idiot Martha -- Yes she I mean an -- about -- of political high negatives innate in me he got a lesser of primary victory in people what.
But there's a lot of money being thwarted because of the stuff.
And on the Republican side is -- -- -- reluctance.
To engage the Republican Party in general and that's where the battle we -- but Washington has to -- You know what sometimes -- need to win some.
If that galvanized 2000 and and the Republicans but I don't think it'll be gonna talk more about this on Sunday we're gonna we'll talk.
More on Sunday we've got a couple of minutes left let me offer would probably -- First the fact that Gomez is polling.
Five to ten point says.
That I think the Democrats are in trouble -- to me.
Is as much a referendum on Obama the administration.
As it is -- Ed Markey.
Second I think that.
You guys are exactly right.
There hasn't been -- galvanizing campaign.
Visibility credibility attached to Gomez that was attached.
To Scott -- now colleague at Fox News.
And third and probably most important the Democrats recognize.
That if they lose this what I think John you were saying -- was -- That the election will galvanize points fourteen for the Republicans.
Is absolutely the case so even if the Democrats as I suspect win by -- Three to five points he will be enough to stave off oh my god this to be the end for the Democrats and Obama.
-- church according to his exact words were momentous upset -- given all the efforts all of on the NC.
You've been the government should not Scott Brown's -- to -- is not experience and -- It would be Katie bar the door here.
I I think in the course Republicans and miss read it what this says is new faces new.
Yet he's absolutely -- that.
But not just all while more public it is from one will be anything but Republicans -- beat the other body will build it would panic the government it would be you wanna see you desert storm oral care is Karl Rove and American crossroads there.
Coke Brothers are those groups.
And probably what is a good thing and because they would -- companies.
So -- saying.
That the absence of big Republican money.
Probably is a double edged sword.
Might help dollars and some cents but also arts and another sense because it's not that art but I'm seeing Goldsberry lightning rod groups are probably are -- -- -- to be in there.
Thought we should all say one thing it's a week from tomorrow it is this primary in June -- special election in the summer.
Turnout is a funny thing so I think I speak for you guys please none of -- would be surprised if Gomez.
Yeah I I I would not bet on it but I suspect he has a better chance to win the most observers looking at the polls bouncy.
I'm -- to conclude here.
For John will clear a path to doubt we will be back Sunday at 530 on the Fox News Channel.
To bring you analysis on the events of the day and more.
We will certainly be talking about the Massachusetts senate race in the continuation of the scandals of a conversation we had today and had yesterday.
And we will be back on the web that 10:30 am Monday morning to follow on the Sunday conversation.
And to give you more.
That you can't get anywhere else from three hard nosed hard headed and most of all independent political advisors so.
For John absolutely it impacted out on themselves thanks --
