-- senators will begin debate once again on landmark immigration reform bill that is the -- -- through this morning or be up for discussion this morning.
But this time there's a new border security surge amendment that is bringing both sides a little bit closer on -- still attacked it.
Marco Rubio about it here yesterday and Senator John McCain has made a passionate plea for this bill.
On the senate floor watch S.
Tried before and we failed.
-- say I won't wonder why we failed him all the people who are responsible I'll take responsibility I didn't do a good enough job.
In -- my colleagues on the absolute need for immigration reform the facts -- that eleven million people.
Live in the shadows and they live here de facto amnesty and by -- they are being exploited every single day.
Wow very passionate -- plea from John McCain.
And then Bill O'Reilly -- and he said that it could be politically damaging for Republicans.
If they don't pass it in his talking points last night watch -- Republican Party has a lot to lose here.
-- doesn't compromise many Hispanic voters will reject the GOP entirely pretty much doing the party in the future that's reality.
Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee as the host of Huckabee.
The aptly named Huckabee show and he joins me now so governor it's good to have you here thank you.
Bill O'Reilly cannot -- he's a new at this bill and this amendment works as far as he's concerned in his opinion he says this is the right thing to -- Is it the right thing to do to you thank.
Immigration reform is necessary but I think getting it -- is more important than getting it quickly and Republicans I keep hearing what we don't do this then we're toast.
But we're gonna be toast if we don't get the border security issue right because -- Republicans really care.
That it's not just about keeping people away who are picking tomatoes and may be making beds in hotels we're talking about.
An open porous border that makes it real easy.
For bad guys to get across we got to close that up it's not about being anti immigrant is about being.
So it's the security issue that has to be addressed first and foremost and if that's not -- if the senate amendment doesn't do it.
-- Republicans stand to lose more than that they will to gain.
Look both sides have some culpability.
Democrats -- a new influx of voters that they think will fall their way Republicans likely open immigration because it's cheap labor for many of their businesses.
Both sides have to recognize that we ought to have lost enforce them and make this consistent.
You know you listen to John McCain there who tried to do immigration reform years ago and he's and we you know we failed back -- -- And some would look at the progression from that moment and say and and thus -- disintegration of a lot of potential.
You know Republican votes.
In this country.
And that that's been a big mistakes of perhaps the rested to do something as you say.
Congressman that feeling of playing catch up like look you know we weren't behind -- on this issue and if we don't do it fast.
Were going to be and we're going to be in the dog house to another presidential election perhaps a false.
For for -- supposition though is that all the Hispanics in America.
Have sort of a disregard for the rule of law and I think that's it not fair Hispanic people are very family -- -- very long oriented.
You know this is a community that it wants to do it right I I don't agree with this idea that they just want.
Everything to have to happen at once if it's not done correctly and the CBO pointed out this week Martha.
That you have eleven million if you grant them you know some form of a background check three million of them aren't gonna pass it now the big question what do you do with us three million are -- gonna deport them.
No you're not so what what happens to those three million there's nothing in the plan that says those who can't pass that background check how to we deal with -- and what do we do if we don't close the borders to keep there from being.
A rush to get in between the -- of the legalization process and before we actually do something about security.
That is a real concern this.
-- just his -- part of his argument is about.
Mark -- on yesterday and and this new -- coworker amendment seeks to.
Truly seal the border right which didn't take quite a -- 700 miles -- -- they want to add another 20000 border agents at the border.
And wait until that whole process is finished and and somebody I guess the stance -- magically says diner in -- -- there is no way anybody can get across the border now we're done.
Then you proceed with the next part of this process which is to start to allow.
The eventual legalization.
And work permits -- for these illegal immigrants.
Some would say you know what that's like thirteen years -- -- you by the time you start this whole process he doesn't make sense to kind of agree -- -- gonna -- and get it started simultaneously.
If you get it working you don't just wait and do nothing on that the pathway process while you're working on the fencing.
And and -- be clear we're never gonna have a 100% border security.
There's always somebody's gonna find a way to break through the system but she wanted to at least make an honest effort -- -- and where we have made an honest effort.
Likens the San Diego area there's actually been some real success there so it can be done and doesn't have to.
-- -- Camry RU NN the court her -- when rubio camp unless Horry in the -- Chris Camp.
-- I'd say probably the rubio.
Worker Hogan because what they want to do is two things that you want to secure the border that's important.
But they also want them to enforce.
Immigrants for cheap labor and we've got to be as passion -- this Republicans about saying it's wrong to exploit people.
And use them as a cheap form of labor cheating the system that is is wrong -- -- just having sort of an open border and not caring who gets here.
Got a heart -- always good to have you here thanks mark -- back humanities and.
