Damage control trying to recover from a series of scandals like the targeting of -- conservatives.
And the mainstream media seem to be lending a hand declaring there never was any real targeting scandal in the first place.
One -- saying it was all an illusion.
Let's get into that -- Judith Miller of Pulitzer Prize winning investigative reporter and author.
-- -- powers as a columnist for the Daily Beast both are Fox News contributors and they are.
-- what do you make of this you know -- the IRS.
Initially there was this report that they were going after conservatives that NPR comes out -- is no wait a minute they were targeting the liberal groups as well.
Where does that stand now well I think that Peggy -- and how to column in the Wall Street Journal that kind of didn't send everything I need to do now which was.
Just look at what the IRS itself has said and that is that no progressive group was actually targeted.
Some of them -- they've been drawn into the dragnet but they were not targeted.
And that's what this investigation is all about -- it's about the use of the IRS.
Against political groups conservative political groups.
-- groups that had Tea Party 912 patriot in their names.
-- -- subjected to secondary.
Questioning and harassment.
That did not happen to any of the progressive groups so there's two issues one.
Let's just drop the progressive thing that's a red Herring but to.
What they haven't been able to do the critics of the IRS is connect this to the white -- You know did anyone at the Obama White House did he -- it.
To target progressive groups and then that we still have absolutely no indication that they do.
Well and and NPR is now saying tears -- that the inspector general.
He's changing his tune on who it is that the IRS investigated.
That didn't really happen did it.
Well I don't think there are as transparent as it should have been from the get go because it they made it seem that no progressive groups were targeted and that's.
That's actually not true but as Judy said I think the number that's the most important is 100%.
Of the Tea Party groups.
Were you know subjected -- this secondary screening and 30%.
Of progressive groups were so obviously there's something going on its.
Not eat wall and then there is this the secondary questioning in the harassment and you know asking people say.
What the what the contents of their prayers are asking them to promise that they're not gonna take it Planned Parenthood did things it clearly the government has no say.
You know over how you express your.
You're free speech so.
Or let's not forget the leaks.
You know information from the IRS of the national organization.
For marriage you know somebody should be being prosecuted for that of course.
It's to compare that she was dishonest and and it's very misleading the way it's being covered well and then they're there was also -- you know the IRS and -- somebody was letting out you know some some pretty personal details on on tax reports tax -- and so forth.
Of some you know fairly influential people -- Right absolutely and it was leaks that were designed to be used politically.
And even though I know people get upset about.
You know plastic squirting -- and conferences and things like that.
Let's keep our eye on what really matters.
Which is the use of the IRS for political purposes and the idea that -- were full -- -- new acting head of it just couldn't answer any of the questions about who was involved in this and how it happened.
And what about the exemptions chief do you know who said that she she was gonna take the fifth I'm.
We need answers and we really need them now enough stalling enough reports that don't answer these basic questions.
So the the New York Times -- here's convinces the gun documents show liberals in IRS dragnet is that overstated.
I think so I think it's very overstated I had I don't -- -- it -- and I think it's missed misleading and and and leaves out a lot of important things like I said including that the type of harassment that was going on be on just being pulled into this thing you know and the type.
Of questioning the fact that it that there taxes on -- was held up for years.
-- during during an election year so.
I you know I I don't think it I think it's a very misleading to suggest that that the two different groups were treated in an equal way it's.
You know the Department of Justice is supposed to be blind or justice is blind -- not the IRS so it would seem.
