See our veterinarian said he would never wobble like other ducks anymore we're talking about butter cup born in -- Tennessee high school biology lab with a bum foot.
But thanks to three printing technology and one very determined engineer -- -- cup is back on his feet this morning and ready.
To live a normal life -- -- the walk for us -- On camera shy this morning Mike Gary is a man who created butter cups what he joins me now from Nashville alongside butter cup the -- Mike nice to see you this morning.
Good morning Harry I'm doing well -- -- -- cup doing is he camera shy.
Not at all he's a camera hog that.
Good we'll get him -- perform for us -- a little bit here but first tell us about what happened when he was Warner what was his deformity like and why we did it inhibit his ability to walk.
Via he was he attacks with a deformed left foot it was basically turned backwards and kind of watered.
If you think of like taking your hand kind of taken like your hand and turn it back hurts and so it was kind of walking on the -- -- Of his foot and -- tried some initial cash being in things like that to try to.
Turn around but you know just too too big of a deformity so thing.
Little girl but heading camping for a couple months to get big and they were living in a Condo.
And she contacted our sanctuary found this on the Internet and -- -- you know we would be willing to take butter cup -- Giving -- home and that's kind of where we started from -- back in February of that had to amputate his foot is that right.
Right the very first step was to talk with our veterinarian about you know what we need to do for his health and first thing needed was to remove his foot because -- -- with a peg leg is much better.
That had formed foot because a lot of his tendons were twisted and and his hipster kind of twisted piece -- -- anyway so -- some other deformities.
You know that go along with the foot.
So that you began you said -- computer that was some 3-D software.
Began to do what.
Right while he was healing from that I had the idea -- lacking ideas create a foot on the software engineering.
Build things and Wheldon and so I just came up with the idea that surely I can convey some network up and so I.
But just kind of thought out of the box and said you know ideally what I like to -- is another -- foot.
Since we have a sanctuary with a lot of other ducks then add to our villages create a foot just like when a mother -- was already familiar with three -- As a hobby level you know and and breeding modeling and can and so I literally took images of one of mother -- -- with a camera went all the way around 360 degrees around her left foot.
And then used Autodesk auto -- was a free software package you upload all of those images in the -- returns a breeding model.
So you get this and really like model foot and there it is there's a gross up of that.
Of that foot the actual foot that you were able to just design and with 3-D model printing which is the future folks -- away.
We see this with other body parts -- the jaw implants and human beings we've seen that we actually -- live demo on our show before so now -- that's what attached.
Is butter cup -- -- a couple walking will he walk for us.
He will walk force.
The final -- is made of your thing rubber.
The Brady printing was an intermediate process that was done by -- copy volunteered their services to me.
But the final -- has a sock in it that that district -- it.
Affixed to his leg and it's rubber you're -- so it won't care you can see kind of how -- -- in.
His -- muscles are not adjusted yet because it's just finish Sunday.
So you're -- law BL -- C and walk.
-- -- that up art.
This -- buddy and volunteer -- -- -- the Nashville hit songwriter and he volunteers are sanctuary is helping us today.
TriBeCa communicating but a couple of this Teddy -- come -- -- Come on come -- -- he doesn't really good like in the grass and outside.
Like you say he's walking only feel right now because it won't take its muscles will file.
To to get accustomed to the different positioning because his leg now is the correct link before -- or so that's what he's doing really give us.
-- wasn't at all it was doing before and thanks to treaty cryptically incredible -- absolutely Mike here we appreciate you joining us this morning from feathered angels water fell sanctuary.
Down there in Nashville thanks so much -- butter cups.
Thank you I was talking a lot Gretchen there.
