Thirteen service members or among the most catastrophically injured in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Men who paid a severe price fighting for our freedom.
Today we hope to help these veterans to get custom built homes.
That will allow them to devote their energy to living instead of just surviving.
They are part of a program called building for America's bravest.
That was started by the Stephen -- tunnel to towers foundation which I love.
And the goal is to build so called Smart homes for severely injured service members.
Last year we featured the stories of fourteen service members and you our viewers helped donate almost a million dollars to help them.
Of the fourteen men featured last year six are now in their new homes.
One of them is corporal Todd nicely here's a clip showing you some of the things homes like -- can do.
You designed -- kitchen that works best for Todd keeping more a lot of the major appliances download real skill level as you could -- the oven here.
Not your average height worked perfectly him give microwave here again.
-- -- because.
We'll be cabinetry he was designed.
Really -- haven't we come down.
To counter top level.
It's something he needs and here.
You can lowers down drip something off the top kill any guns in the house or push button and they are not much -- bugs -- not worker prosthetic.
We had to make sure that everything was chosen has push button the faucets in the house car.
He's is able to pass the faucets and the forces turn on and off.
Just as fast as showers are designed to be good -- Wheelchair or coverage prosthetics he can leave prosthetics here at the end and then he could transfer songs on here -- around.
Cold temperatures water here -- just -- report.
Vaccine it is program roadmap as he approaches it.

-- gratefully from my part that you let me help and -- small way.
-- are you corporal Juan Dominguez because you will.
Are somebody who is in a one of the Smart homes and can you publicist just -- understand how that his change your life.
It helps out tremendously and in and -- sending -- housing military housing like these are smaller.
You will chair -- try to get in doorways is it's harder -- -- it is addressing it's it's always planning ahead.
I think is a big struggle meg doing things -- it's gonna take new audience restaurants I need to go now you know I don't really need to use it.
That's basically that's -- -- with cutting the frustration time out of things that.
I wanted to ask you about because a lot of the guys we asked for your thoughts before you came on a lot of guys talked about how.
It's stressful it's it's full of anxiety to be in a house that's not suited to your needs you know a house that most of us live -- Because it it doesn't you can't get around every day is just a challenge to get to the doorways -- mean we don't think about how the doors there.
Left open you can't get a wheelchair through act and -- had used have you felt that transition from that life.
To a new easier one.
LA at Cigna and day difference Dominican.
If -- being really really kind of lean and lazy day everything's controlled often iPad.
More so everything that's kind of.
The bases is just.
My Mac -- actually it acts of the guys are joking or they Obama market segment of my favorite things in the house is -- doctor Rita for hot things anymore and making a normal house and you know debate if it's gonna follow mean -- -- -- just leveled and Ingram a -- whatever I'm doing so.
It it does help out a lot he would just don't realize how long it takes us and not only us our founding members.
Yeah right and now wanna talk to sending about sex -- really made a point about how you won you -- -- and I -- that's just for ourselves but for your for your spouses for your loved ones.
Because you guys are used to taking carry ourselves.
And it's I'm sure quite a transition -- it quite a shock to come back and have to mean on a spouse or loved one or family member to help take care of you -- -- you Adam keys because.
We have video of you at the tunnel to towers foundation run so franks' organization his brother Stephen seller.
One of our best and bravest who who died on 9/11 running into the fires to help people -- every -- they have a run.
And did proceeds of a benefit and people who lost somebody on 9/11 as well as you guys wounded warriors and then.
Finish that race we ran in my team ran it.
And then we saw I really don't Europe at this stage and then week's high you here's here's this is I think yet this is the video.
You did the whole thing.
On your crutches.
In you struggled mightily at the end but she did it -- cross that finish line and you stunned us all.
If it grit in the determination on your face you are not going to be stopped.
And it it -- Felix is a small human being for having complained about a cramp I had -- a man anything like that.
But that's how does it it's how you inspire us.
And to see you here now saying.
I -- a home delivered just just a home to help me recapture my independence.
And it's not that you can't grip now -- out we conceived and -- it out but it's that I could talk about how.
What you think it would mean to you.
-- won't Hussein -- it's mostly I want for myself because things are a lot more difficult -- senior military can't walk all the time.
On some things that are higher up enough that that's for help -- -- -- and somebody.
You don't -- enough to have a fairly windy in my own I don't want them now have to take care male and we'll take care of them and down this is.
-- without a doubt the way to do it.
Yeah and Christian brown I know you said that you you worry about being a burden others and you would just like to have a full day without feeling.
Overwhelmed mean is that what it's like to live in the house it's not equipped to your needs.
Yes ma'am I do a lot of traveling and a lifetime and to assume I'm always trying to engage in that thing's still like to do and try to find new adaptive ways of doing it.
And you know had the opportunity to meet a lot of people to have big kartsonas.
Made ways for me to go out and do -- -- split when I'm traveling and I go to these homes.
You know I have are covering into the same you know problems I can get through a doorway.
Or they don't have a -- so when I get there I'm in a wheelchair and there's ten or twelve steps so actually have to get down and -- -- -- Rear end -- actually do a dip in push myself up each individual step.
And in doing that -- near you.
Very active you're going in -- out of doorways all the Tom or to the restroom you go to do in the shower.
And there's no -- for support.
So basically I'm I'm trying to grab the porcelain and balanced myself on that small piece and -- mosques drug myself in there without -- -- symptom of my till won't.
And they didn't back out and do a full day of dead doing this -- in this pushes and pulls all -- -- strenuous on your body.
And it takes luck Tom recover from that after a couple days residences -- down for awhile.
It's got to be stressful just just for you is it may have I -- just huge it's in a must it take for granted the fact that we can make it through our day without.
You know worrying about getting on that -- -- order getting in and out of the shower and yet.
This is something you need to focus on if you don't have the right living quarters and I think.
I -- outfit it's and I think it was.
And Garnett or your -- one attacks you because you you said.
Right now I have full time care worker who who helps you.
But if you didn't have her and he didn't have a Smart home.
You'd have to do all of your Energy East she's just making it through the day as opposed to finishing college finding meaningful location which you sit here and you're looking to do.
It didn't talk about that about.
I've gone from being you know some of -- -- they -- you know capable and an independent people that he can find.
Having to constantly lean on in and rely on family or are other people to tell -- out and take care you.
And it's it's.
It is it's very physically strenuous to to try and do that even with somebody help you but it.
It's also it's also very emotionally strenuous and it wears you down today you know constantly feel like you're being a burden or -- You know -- making the people around you have to work harder and -- making their lives tougher because you know something happening you know.
That's do you by the way we had a picture viewer and on the boards -- -- -- -- skydiving.
Gear because you went skydiving -- you call your alive day which is the anniversary of when you were injured.
But did not die lived to tell about it and -- enjoy life.
You know we hope to the fullest that's what that's the goal is to get you guys in the place where it.
To the fullest absolutely.
A lot of fun does stick around and and half.
It's -- -- get a second chance it's it's.
He really wanted to do everything you can't make it to -- they can be -- -- Ben -- Yeah I think -- I know you went back you try to go back to your home your regular home after your injury.
And just were surprised -- how difficult it was to try to survive in that -- tell us.
-- -- you know will deploy in.
To protect America and America's freedom and our freedoms taken away just because are lucky enough to survive and you know street you can walk upstairs anymore I had to check myself -- crawl upstairs.
Just a simple tasks like that and smooth turn to -- I have to jump up -- wheelchair just given to some rooms in.
That's a big thing EEE can't have a normal.
Satisfactory life you know address your life -- around on the ground.
It's not acceptable this is not acceptable to us -- -- that acceptable to our viewers I know this.
Last year we had so many viewers -- after -- -- you guys and said I'm sending you my vacation Jack.
Don't screwed up which -- you didn't.
A ton but just mean -- and hearing -- is not acceptable you deserve better and we're gonna we're gonna help reach that goal.
Today we're going to be right back with much more.
On how you can help these guys and what the future could hold.
