Thank you joining us now for some perspective.
-- you Koop the former chief of staff a member of political office of the free egyptians party.
He's connected to the opposition on the ground trying now to form a new government he's currently senior political analyst at the -- career institute for middle east policy.
Here in Washington -- here.
You just heard Greg's piece there is a focus here especially about.
Whether this was a coup or not I know you don't characterize it that way why.
Well I think that question of whether it's -- Coronado is on the -- -- ask I think it's that important to frame the issue.
Hamas for a lot of people here in the US senate some of these events happens.
All of a sudden but in -- I did not happen a vacuum.
What happens that for the past year there's been -- opposition has been calling on the brotherhood to.
The more inclusive.
And there has been a lot of violations by the and Morsi government that led to these -- that mean.
If we look at -- June 30 protests which were the largest and Egypt's history at least.
We conceded to backtrack two months before that and see -- There's been petitions being signed by over 22 million egyptians requesting more seat to stepped down or at least -- early elections.
So in the sense that this has been back abiding people there's a lot of a lot of injured egyptians -- -- business and chanted some franchise.
And kind of pushed out of the political process.
From afar looking at the violence the army.
In these -- with the Muslim Brotherhood more than fifty killed as you would.
Probably not be surprised that brotherhood spokesperson.
Said this today.
That the charges against the brotherhood as they're being rounded up here.
Our quote nothing more than an attempt by the police state to dismantle.
The -- protest what can we do in a police state when the police force are criminals the judiciary are traders.
And the investigators -- the fabric caters what can one do that's from the brother.
Today well just one quick response to that is that the brotherhood itself and present more to himself have been praising the police force until maybe 48 hours that and this -- took place.
I reality of the matter is obviously that the incidents that happened and -- on the way what you're kind of tragic and obviously we deplore any loss of civilian life.
Above for the first time actually seeing then some of the protesters were armed military produced evidence on videotape that some some of the professors -- -- -- So I think we need to investigate this situation further.
That's not to say to the military has not made mistakes in the past it has and I've seen some of them on my own eyes however.
This particular situation we need to -- -- what is the status of the interim government set up and how long do you think it'll take.
For Egypt to get to the next set of elections because that's a big question.
Here and around the world.
I think everybody that is involved in the process right now wants to get through with this process as fast as possible what we need to set our expectations here at least in DC.
-- -- passing through growing pains of democracy.
And liberty and I believe that -- because -- -- current government is trying to reach consensus between different factions whether they -- Islamists that have been on board or -- sort of liberals -- socialist.
It's gonna takes a few days at least 2% this government in the protests that happened.
There were signs and pictures of the US ambassador to Egypt and Paterson I was -- through over.
She gave a speech a couple weeks before the protests which she said some say the street action will produce better results.
To be honest my government and I are deeply skeptical is that why there's such a push back on and Paterson.
I think if you read the rest of this speech or even more infuriating.
Lines for egyptians.
I think ambassador and medicine and that -- effects that are passed Paterson.
Probably misspoke in some capacity.
Coupled with some of her actions with -- -- meeting with the brotherhood leadership.
That are not members of government.
All that combined did not just.
Pick off the opposition but rather -- average Egyptian man so the average Egyptian about how the Obama administration is responding has responded and is responding now.
I feel that the Obama administration had a golden opportunity to be the hero or -- or at least in this entire process.
But unfortunately that performance is viewed by the average Egyptian sub par.
Last thing most people are most worried about a possible civil war and that this thing spirals out of control.
From people you talked to on the ground is that possible.
I think that caught the speculation about a civil war aren't -- exaggerated.
But we do need to know here and that also addresses the -- of some of the brotherhood leadership.
Is that there were calls of -- for violence and Jihad against opposition or anyone who opposes president -- by some affiliates of the -- reaching.
And I feel that that definitely needed that military hacked into being in that capacity I mean without the intervention of the military -- seen wide range.
That is being curved in some capacity now because of the dimension.
Okay thank you very much for your country and watching closely.
