George Zimmerman now a free man the entire trial has done a lot of attention since it began last month our next guest no stranger.
To high profile cases defense attorney Jose Baez defending Casey Anthony joins me now good morning let's say good good morning Gretchen.
All right so let's let's clear something here with regard to the defense we know he's acquitted -- -- acquitted but.
Stand your ground -- self defense -- ever really used to stand your ground law in this case correct and why.
Correct they absolutely elected not to have -- stand your ground hearing they waive that for the criminal case.
But there's questions as to whether they can still use it for this for any civil matters that might arise later.
And so you believe that maybe they decided not to hold that hearing before the trial -- just strictly went with self defense because they might need -- ucits.
As we move forward now -- possible civil litigation.
Here's what I think the defense was thinking I think that they felt.
Public pressure was going to be too much for this judge.
Two to issue a immunity stamp basically for the stand your ground.
What -- -- -- does is it gives you absolute immunity from civil and criminal cases.
So they didn't feel -- we're gonna get that from this judge so they waived it and it now that he's acquitted if he is sued if and when he sued let's let's face that he probably will be.
They will then have they stand your ground hearing at that point he may -- he may be found immune very interesting.
Where you believe in your mind with your expertise.
Government should go from here.
I think wherever he goes.
He should keep a low profile.
An extremely low profile I think there's going to be some financial opportunities for him in the future be given the nature of this case in the exposure that it -- -- so.
Want to see if exploits those -- and puts a little nest they go away for himself I think he should.
Go somewhere wouldn't keep a low profile disappear telling how about twenty seconds -- an interest in knowing what you think the department justice may or may not.
I I think it's ridiculous that they are asking for them to do this again the FBI has already investigated mr.
Have found that there were no civil rights violations and that this is just like the case again you can't really investigate something and expect.
You know magic to appear in -- new evidence is gonna show up it just doesn't happen that way.
Right Jose Baez criminal defense attorney -- thinks about -- thanks -- marked.
