Now how Robert Zimmerman junior George Zimmer men's brother joins us this evening.
Robert thanks for being here.
Now -- inside I was in Sanford Florida were a few hundred people gathered after the verdict.
Tonight in Times Square a few blocks away and in cities across this country thousands as you can see on the screen right there.
Are rallying in support of -- -- -- How does that make you feel.
Judge -- -- personal thanks for having me I think that's one of our fundamental rights is to assemble and to express ourselves as long as it's peaceful again it's peaceful assembly.
That's the operative word.
I think that people who are directing themselves towards the emotion that's tied up.
Or consumed people with this case are not really paying attention to the verdict and paying attention to the filter that the court system kind of puts on what.
Is admitted in what is not admitted and I wish that these people.
Not just paid attention to the verdict that paid attention to the process into the job that was some on both sides and actually presenting.
A fair case and having George exonerated.
You know that you heard my opening statement -- I feel that based upon.
What I saw and heard the charges should never been brought in the first place.
You now are in a very unique position because on the one hand you when your brother and your mother -- your father -- able to say.
My son was acquitted a jury acquitted him.
-- but at the same time do you feel that he should never been charged and brought to trial on the first.
-- look I think that it starts with saying early and often that George told the truth the truth this this was a matter of self defense I think I I heard your intro and I think that you're being.
-- handed in comparison to people like Alan Dershowitz who say that the only person who should be facing jail time in this situation is Angela Corey if she should be disbarred.
And she should be sanctioned.
I think that -- You know and that's yet to be decided I mean there are several issues still pending against her.
And as a judge and whenever there is evidence that the defense is entitled to have.
And she showed her hand Robert by firing the guy who said what do you -- you've got to give this stuff to the defense I mean she's in big trouble as well she -- -- Sure that's my understanding of professor Dershowitz opinion but tying into that -- friendly.
I made a statement on the -- of the courthouse asking the state of Florida to withdrawn improper charge it was an improper charge.
Legal -- such as yourself.
Can wrangle with some of the minutia involved in understanding why it's an improper charge and why we only prosecute when there's probable cause and we don't play hide the ball with evidence.
I don't think that that's necessarily.
The mindset of some of the people rallying I think they're offended.
On an emotional level and I don't begrudge them for that because they've been misled for so long and they have this legal answer that's how could they be misled Robert if if they saw the evidence well in my view mr.
-- I'm not sure that they did in my view mr.
-- -- -- the trial but right doesn't mean necessarily that everyone.
-- the trial the same way that a judge you're a former prosecutor and attorney wood and understood some of the the situations that were happening there even in the pretrial hearings -- what I want to move on to the more personal stuff.
Are what your brother doing thinking feeling tonight.
The respecting his privacy he is -- in a word resting.
And recovering this is the first day that George has been free.
In a long time and I think that we all live our lives as free people and we have an understanding of what that means.
But today that was the first day -- for George to enjoy his freedom it's like a breath of fresh -- issue look at that saw on the screen those people gathering are you afraid for you your family your brother.
That look at.
Looks to me like a peaceful demonstration on nonetheless we're threatened constantly consistently and in very.
Violent vicious ways on Twitter on other forms of social media through emails that I get I am concerned for Georgia safety he's concerned for his and his wife safety and safety of our family.
Has always been our foremost concern -- You know -- on Martin's mom and dad I mean.
They lost the seventeen year old song -- with some arm and as you look at this.
Case -- that there's a great deal of sympathy I would hope.
On the part of your family.
For trade -- -- -- -- has been in and September of 2012 we released a statement I've flew to Los Angeles actually to release sent out live.
Specifically directed at Sabrina and Tracy and -- a trip on Martin's surviving family members.
