Well according to a report from the Washington Post.
This year the united states military completed a state of the art 64000.
Square foot headquarters building in southwest Afghanistan.
-- it cost our Defense Department 34.
There's only one little problem.
Military has no plans to use it.
-- with the US forces handing over security to the Afghans and expected to withdraw to under 101000 troops in the country by the end of next year.
Well that make a lot of sense earlier I spoke to Peter Schweitzer president of the government accountability institute he's author of a terrific book it's called.
Throw them all out and I asked him -- the military would pour that -- money into a facility that it's not even gonna use.
I think when used the term the military Mike the sense that we always have more.
You know the brave men and women who are serving in uniform in country the reality is is that the military.
Also has an enormous civilian component at the Pentagon it includes contractors.
And there's a lot of money that gets thrown around.
Part of this is a story about -- You know they're just not paying attention how taxpayer -- being used but it's also a problem -- -- what I call crony capitalism.
And that is is that there -- a lot of contractors.
Who get paid a lot of money I to build these projects and at the end of the day nobody involved in that transaction.
Governor really cares.
Whether -- thing has any use or not and that's what I think happened in this particular case.
You in your book really outlined just how extensive this whole.
I guess hand holding as between.
Government and contractors.
There are a lot of people getting just disgusting only rich with government contracts so how extensive is it.
-- it's a huge problem you know governor if you are somebody who works at the Pentagon -- you work at the Department of Health and Human Services.
And -- government employee you can have a lot of contacts.
With people who can make a lot of money based on decisions you've made so.
Oftentimes what happens is what they call the revolving door.
Some -- the Pentagon as a civilian employee there writing contracts to build let's say warehouses.
Well guess why.
They leave their government job and they go to work for who.
A company that makes warehouses -- -- that.
Initiates the construction deal -- its revolving door and when you have government employees who are handing out literally.
Billions upon billions of dollars that can make or break a company.
Are they become very attractive.
-- for this kind of crony capitalism problem so.
I think it's an enormous problem it's something we associate -- only certain parts of the government.
But the reality is is that it's a problem in the military and you're looking at literally tens of billions of dollars a year.
There -- completely and totally wasted by.
The Department of Defense because of this kind of problem.
Let's talk about how your organization is found a shocking hidden loop -- In the immigration bill well yes thank you governor we've got a report coming out on Monday so I'm gonna give you sort of an early preview here first.
The senate bill specifically says.
That companies that are currently hiring illegals.
He did the documentation provided by those -- illegals to get this status in the United States cannot be used against the employers that is shocking.
Because what -- saying governor is basically companies that have played by the rules who have not hired illegals.
Our -- at a competitive disadvantage to begin with.
Are going to be penalized because the rule bay to breakers are going to have the slate wiped clean.
That -- shocking and I think it goes to a deeper problem not just about this immigration bill but it goes to issues like the financial crisis and everywhere.
Where we have in this country increasingly.
This -- this fact that people who break the law are taking excessive risks get a retake they get a redo at the expense of people who have been playing by the rules all along and that's precisely what the senate bill is doing.
So -- in essence.
A business owner who has played by the rules he's -- only legal people he's got to insure all his people under Obama care.
But the person who didn't play by the rules who had illegals.
Who didn't provide any benefits for them.
Now it is not only allowed to call them legal but he doesn't.
Have to provide obamacare because they're in that transition.
So there's a really a double benefit.
To the people who have been hiring illegals wouldn't -- -- Yes absolutely what you said about Obama -- is absolutely true it also deals with taxes if -- -- for example American citizens and employee I'd pay taxes -- that person's Social Security Medicaid etc.
And I have to take that out -- handle -- there's an administrative costs.
If I have an illegal in that job and I -- them laughs in cash I'm not paying any of those taxes that's actually.
But with this bill if this bill passes it's essentially saying that those companies who engaged in this tax fraud.
Pay people under the table not paying the taxes that they would pay for American citizens it's saying we're gonna wipe the slate clean no problem you get to start all over again I just think it's outrageous.
Well I can assure you this if you have not already read his book -- Peters watchers book it is riveting.
It's call throw them all out and sometimes I think that may be the best idea.
