A big races brewing out west of primary Republican primary.
Liz Cheney announcing she is going to challenge incumbent -- NC.
And he was asked about it by the Washington Post.
He said well she said that if I ran she wasn't going to run but obviously that wasn't correct question what is your relationship -- Liz Cheney.
And -- I thought we were friends question are you at all concerned with -- potential fund raising prowess considering her ties.
To the former vice president bush administration and -- money -- always been a problem for me.
Does her challenge give you any second thoughts about reelection and -- no.
We're back with the panel start with Steve.
Well it's usually that's not what I was actually gonna say but if that is an interesting exchange because my kids he gave an interview last week Jonathan Martin of the New York Times in which he talked about a phone call that he had had with Liz Cheney.
And set and -- fax she called me to say she might be running.
And -- left and at that and then yesterday comes up with this new detail from that phone call where she apparently said.
According to -- that she called them not only say she was running but that she wouldn't run if he was retiring.
Which raises the obvious question why didn't he say that in his initial interview with Jonathan Martin would have been the lead to the peace the most significant news to come out of an interview.
Makes you wondered if my -- he's making that up.
I think in terms of the broader race it's a very interesting race and it's a difficult one for the Republican Party Liz Cheney is I think the kind of Republican.
Good post 2012 from the party has been saying it wants to run she's tough she's Smart she's articulate she's dynamic.
She does all of these things she she is conservative down the line.
And that you know presumably would be a pretty good senator if you want bold change.
Now that's not what the establishment is doing here with the NRC saying in effect -- -- willing to spend money that we would be spending in races against Democrats.
To reelect like NC.
Well it's not only the establishment and senator Rand Paul is clearly not.
Characterized -- establishment all the time here's his quote when I heard Liz Cheney was running for senate I wondered if she was running in her home state of Virginia.
And then fellow.
Wyoming senator John Barrasso said this I think that Liz she's terrific and I think she is a future that is very very bright.
I just think this is the wrong race at the wrong time.
Well I mean this is -- this is a broader picture here about what's going on in the Republican Party right now and the kind of fear that you have among incumbents that.
They're opponents really these days aren't Democrats.
They're people inside the Republican Party who say I'm more conservative than you are four I have a bigger name and you -- and I'm not going to ever compromised.
With those dastardly Democrats and just this weekend.
You had senator and -- saying you know -- this possibility of compromise and watch it we can work on these issues.
And that you hear this case saying that's exactly why we don't need we don't need anybody whose work and what those terrible Obama folks out in fact the quote Lou.
Cheney -- -- video says instead of cutting deals with the president's allies we should be opposing them every step of the way and he said last week.
The key is common ground I believe that we can agree on 80% of an issue 100% of the time.
When you compromise both sides give up it's not compromise.
It's finding common ground -- -- that people are reacting as if this is the first.
Time in American history is any younger candidate is challenged and established.
Can incumbent of their own party happens all the time.
It's how a lot of the great older -- got started.
And I think that this is not I mean it's unusual only in the sense that she is already nationally known.
Mean she's essentially running on age.
You know that's would JFK ran on in 1960.
And he was lionized as you know the younger generation.
-- frontier and all that effect in the inaugural address he said that torch.
Had been to passionately to a new generation of Americans so -- generational.
Racers aren't new.
Somebody would more than -- stepping it is a new.
She is obviously young and talented and he's established she will run shall try to run to his right.
I think it was good as long as it doesn't end up being nasty you know -- and we can be healthy.
-- thing quickly Steve how much is her father and does he play in this race.
Well he's a big deal obviously in allowing I mean he is affairs say that he's worshipped.
In the state of Wyoming -- has lots of connections I think it it certainly will help but look she's.
We got her own career she's done her own thing she's already been successful.
