-- -- adult Ed Rollins manage.
Ronald Reagan's 1984 landslide victories the author of bare knuckles and back rooms my life.
In American politics.
With the campaign manager for Huckabee in 2008 member the -- the boom.
It Rawlins joins us and I know you saw at the -- thank Purdue Minnesota very short notice I appreciate very much operator and I know you saw the a news conference that was just.
Just finished about half an hour ago with Anthony -- what we've what we've -- -- -- you know I thought first vote is very quickly at a at a press conference.
Obviously he wants to get this behind them you don't want my sense is that anybody that knew all this stuff was there.
-- -- -- -- -- -- It is very self absorbed -- -- very bad judgment.
And secondly basically is very self absorbed to -- he's gonna put his wife.
And and it turns to move to a -- -- period here.
My issue here is.
Every one of estimates some kind of a mistake in the course our -- some more severe than others.
But at the end of the day here you know he'd he'd he'd lose your seat in congress.
You -- the mayor.
You get your hand slapped for bad behavior.
And you don't go to counseling you don't go -- -- a psychiatrist and trying to cure this this perversion that you have.
He just continue doing it for the next year.
And and wherever else along it is he's not disclosed fully.
And it's sort of like well you know I say I didn't so who cares.
And I think to a certain extent which it shows he chose a really bad judgment -- American science part.
And I to a certain extent.
It but he got to -- it -- gonna pay a bigger price and he would have.
And what respect you think in other words using this is campaign done.
I don't think you know I never -- nothing surprises me anymore -- than 45.
And and you know what you people that elected but I -- -- -- snowball chance.
I would be shocked at the voters of New York.
That elected him mayor but.
That may happen I think the key thing here is our women voters got to basically say this guy basically mistreated his -- He certainly didn't -- we won't of this embarrassment.
No because this is this what will harp on the -- used to be.
And I think that's that's kind of the key.
But it's a very close election right today -- they seem to -- all very crowded together.
Among his wife -- was standing at their next to him in this news conference and.
I what she's a tremendous person that -- my -- is this is above and beyond golf city.
I would think so -- the issue here though is not just that there are more.
Pictures information didn't previously come out as he had said prior to this yes more stuff might come out -- the issue is really the timeline.
Whether or not as one particular web site reported.
-- happen after he resigned from congress and he was still conducting himself with this kind of behavior after he had on the may -- -- that's the issue I think.
Well that's the issue to me and and I think I think to a certain extent he also -- the time that he resign goodness goes seek counseling.
But now -- you never went to count.
Look at this thing went for like a week or two or -- like that was -- They each had two days.
And -- you know you don't you don't hear this kind of behavior.
You know which is a perverted behavior there's no question you just don't do these kinds of things today unless there's some.
Some screws and you -- -- -- -- and try and tighten up to screw but it might senses this -- -- like many people were predictions.
There's alcoholism or drugs or what have you and that certainly is an addiction.
Basically as controlled and I'll.
-- -- did it that it cut.
And and you know just keep moving forward.
Which I would Ed Rollins who renders the Reagan campaign in 84 among many other successful campaigns.
The you know we shouldn't have -- Mark Sanford of South Carolina that he was forgiven by the voters but is this not analogous to that.
Well I think it's a different first of all his -- went to a divorce like she remarried.
He's -- -- on each of the woman.
You know -- there's there's there's there's lots of people who basically.
Column level somebody else.
And and moved on.
I think in this particular case.
That this is unusual behavior and it's not.
It's not a question of falling love as a question of have your own I -- camping we know that I -- themselves.
But this is up and looks under every day and and obviously -- there's some achievers that.
It's it's now spilled over to this can't get.
Now I know you're New Yorkers well and and so you know New York politics as well as national politics I can't imagine this playing on the national stage.
No I don't think this president he would he would not play in a national stage ED -- driven right from office I mean.
Because every every major media person would be asking questions about this every day as the New York media -- -- wind -- -- -- and how many others are there.
This girl's point -- literally under age.
They did this thing really in the year ago he's sedated -- two years ago.
You know what what happened last week last month and what goes into your decision process.
And -- you can expect.
And the man some kind of disclosure from him.
As opposed to saying look a little -- so it was not true.
-- it'll all come out of Miami and making it happen.
And we have made an application and made it out.
The last time I spoke and -- thought that Bill Thompson would have a good chance to be the nominee and perhaps next mayor of New York I wonder.
With a -- of course in the in the race a became a -- Weiner race.
Does this change the dynamic once again and other are other contenders who may not have gotten the attention they will now get.
Be more likely to perhaps get the nomination.
One of the order -- difficulties that both the leaders pitcher.
If it's it's their stories that are too sensational not a cover.
So all the attention -- not about the state of the city for the new ideas forward move forward and what the other candidates might have to offer it's all of this sort of stuff.
-- -- -- understand this 49 days left in the democratic primary.
We're not understand at least the next two weeks.
Digging into -- And obviously he gets all the media attention -- and then he gets harder for others like bill -- -- street very true.
I think whoever gets to the primary and I and -- -- 140%.
The city primary or would it be the mayor.
-- -- run off.
My chances were we -- had done -- prior to today was that he bought Quinn back to where she was not gonna be sure water.
It was kind of like who's going to be just the runner -- was going to be -- -- I think bill costs and still has an extraordinary chance I think he comes down to.
The African American voters in the Latino voters turn out the make of the very large segment of -- population.
Is everybody so disgusted by this primary at the turnout is very very low which -- -- will be.
And then anybody can win.
Just of Lazio have a chance.
I don't really really are some differences -- a -- -- the most liberal.
Of the candidates.
Quinn has some issues because she was the one who enabled Bloomberg.
To overturn the term limits and have a third term.
That she's particularly she's not likely a large segment of the voting even the democratic voting population.
And yet that the real the very real differences among these candidates as you just suggested.
May not be brought out in this primary race because was so busy focused on the scandal.
Ten you know launched its -- -- many days -- -- or moving into the the hard days of August withdrawal is a difficult time did any kind of campaign nationally here or certainly a citywide race.
And it's kind of like what what are the borders newspapers what are what are what are the publications go to the cable networks.
For the local news stations that cover and my sense is right now it's going to be that sort of the winners -- story.
And I think a certain extent the only way you can counter that is -- state media.
Advertising the radio or television.
Eliot Spitzer beach Scott stringer for controller.
-- article certainly indicate that at this point in time out again I don't know who's gonna turn out not only keep contractual.
Can tell you exactly at this point in time.
If -- -- Spitzer who has unlimited money and has his own personal money.
It's he basically can convince.
A majority of voters and turnout that that he that he's turned -- Life around you know evening evening -- I think.
I think to a certain extent it's -- thing that has to play out and you know six straight weeks in this particular age of 49 -- several weeks.
Is going to be a lifetime.
And there's a lot of stake here and I think if you really look at all.
There almost eighty and.
And by the way there is a Republican primary to right which we have been the -- not even focusing.
Not even focusing on obviously.
But -- -- -- moved up.
-- advertising quite heavily.
What turned out in the Republican primary very small number.
Under the best of circumstances -- very few Republicans in New York City.
You know two capable men.
But it but concerted activity much attention to either one -- them an internal and tell -- -- -- Do you think -- as a soda what do you think.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- I don't think you ever have a sort of -- he got -- on this again I'm under resources.
You know -- -- -- certainly honest credentials issues.
-- is -- stronger candidate but at the end of the day yeah.
Kept -- -- radio advertising river heavily and registration.
Getting lots of people.
A lot of mail your mailbox.
And I appreciate you were once again due in December assured those good to have -- earlier wisdom here this evening thanks so much for your time.
-- agreement had been Rawlins who engineered the victory of Ronald Reagan in 1984.
It was part of they -- the boom 2008 worked for Mike Huckabee.
During that particular -- -- Republican.
A consultant but also very fair and his analysis when he just political analysis.
And had a pretty good taken what's going on in New York City has got a little bit of inside baseball on the New York -- mayoral race here.
