Really cool story and history under the sea.
Scientists -- not one not two but three sunken ships loaded with treasures of historic interest.
Right off the coast of Texas these racks are believed to be some 200 years old dating back to when Texas was fighting for its independence.
From Mexico joining me now on the phone is Jim -- gotta he's the director of -- maritime heritage program Jim welcome good to have you here.
What you find.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- Art of the nineteenth century.
And -- which -- bit struggling for independence as -- Mexico.
The United States -- purchasing Louisiana and the world as we noticed making sure it.
We're looking at an anchor and and some -- was on -- -- ships.
And we also pictures you know.
From the battle for texas' independence just to kind of remind everybody what.
What -- we're talking about here but what you -- -- -- ships is talks a little bit about the history of privateers in the area and cargo and that the way the military was fighting.
Which you know -- ships were that and that's -- feet that that that -- -- pirate that may have been involved in some of this is well.
Well he's certainly a candidate says that -- -- -- -- -- -- many other private -- Bishops.
One was armed to others -- to be carrying cargo trucks they were cries -- curbs were being protected.
We don't know but trust the real prize here.
Is there history that's tied up and -- -- they're -- reflect the people that we're on board.
And breach of us as we looked at those as we carefully raised -- analysis and then go WTO.
We were struck by the fact that we're the first in -- touched and close to 200 years of our earlier.
And that this was a real connection to real people all of whom -- -- and -- what did you learn about them.
We learned that the ships work.
Caught in the same storm that they think quickly and violently.
That they had to trade goods in them -- -- all over the world but.
Particularly weak it's either one of the strips at least at call -- Yucatan Mexico because there were very distinctive jars that came from only one town -- when you're there.
And what role do you feel what what does it tell you in terms of shedding light.
On what was happening it in Texas and the fight for independence and you know at a date there's not really sure from what I've read -- whether or not the larger ship was was basically.
Have these other two ships in custody essentially.
But -- -- just really just begun with the discovery we raised about six yard effect it will not be studied carefully.
And I think more answers will be forthcoming but what we have seen a couple they want.
That the ocean has always been an important part of our country's history as well as the world's -- -- down there.
-- sites like this one found our time capsule and museums.
And bait and tell us so much because -- so many things that -- that are so much we preserve.
You know asking because I -- there's a guest on the other morning on FOX & Friends.
Who was finding you know huge blocks of silver in shipwrecks.
How do you balance the need for preserving history down there because he got -- technology -- to go down there and find things that people thought would last forever.
With treasure hunters.
Very few -- have treasure and the cost so going and finding and recovering -- -- Are very very high impact this project was only made possible thanks to generous private donation -- -- folks here at Texas.
The government's role was just below -- science tests that we -- like that kind of cost perspective.
Trading at the -- dollar but what was key in this project as well was that there is no treasure here.
Expect there's that very ships even -- treasure and then the long run it cost more to get most of them you don't find currently -- -- silver or -- It's fascinating I love that staff finding that pottery from.
Only one town where it was made and -- this is gonna give you such an indication of the lives of these people thank you so much -- Really close you know thanks for being let us.
