All right politics now which means of course the great Carl Cameron and senator Mitch McConnell the senate minority lead up.
Not facing any challenges I understand date column.
In the end though what would -- -- Republican primary how.
How subtle David and a lot of I -- Well he had McConnell definitely gonna face a challenge but he's not likely to get caught off guard -- that old David and Goliath story this is going to be one of the races to watch all year.
And a lot of -- that sort of symbolic emblematic really of the tea party's criticism and threat to the GOP establishment.
So McConnell is the most powerful Republican in the US senate as its GOP leader and he's also the longest serving in Kentucky.
But millionaire Louisville businessman Matt Bevan who is -- first time candidate.
Says McConnell just not a true conservative and is already on both cable and broadcast would attack ads watch.
McConnell has voted for higher taxes bailouts debt ceiling increases congressional pay increases and liberal judges on the -- I approve this message because America deserves more than failed leadership.
Tough stuff and a tough charge to make stick because McConnell -- already been endorsed by Kentucky's national Tea Party I can't.
The -- US senator from the commonwealth Rand Paul.
McConnell hired as his campaign manager -- guy by the name of Jesse Benton he ran for 2012 presidential campaign of Rand Paul's dad Ron Paul.
Who way back in 2008 and another presidential campaign held a whole bunch of Tea Party rallies actually inspired the modern Tea Party movement so.
-- Carl's a pretty savvy veteran who rarely pulls his punches and doesn't get caught up -- surprises.
He's not taking the reelection for granted either he recognizes the threat has been bracing for somebody like -- for years here's McConnell.
Lot of -- -- you know I love a good campaign and I think -- Evelyn.
-- he went on to say I he understands the criticism he's gonna get.
This is understood to be probably one of the -- Republican primaries in the country's going to be expensive McConnell has not fifty million dollar in his campaign war chest and a huge organization.
Veterans personally while he's got a twelve million dollars has said he will put a 100000 -- 2000 dollars in but he knows he's -- -- big money from the Tea Party in order to take down.
The guy who is the number one Republican in the US senate a tough thing to do -- a primary.
There is there any sort of that national.
Sort of trend -- call towards.
Senate Republicans who may be deemed by.
The Tea Party wing of the -- to be too moderate is our national trend in them being challenged.
Not so much but there is certainly a lot of -- in the Republican Party and on the right.
From two partners.
They believe that the Republican Party sort of lost its way gone to native here in Washington things like supporting bailouts and and -- variety of major major expenditures -- the last couple years.
And the criticism of McConnell and of some of these Republican leaders is that somewhat muted by the support of Rand Paul in the case of McConnell.
But in McConnell case he's been up he's been accused of pandering to the Tea Party repeatedly by Democrats.
Well the last three and a half years.
They've been pounding him so he has responded with a counter attack on -- in the form of a web video it's not a TV -- -- goes after veterans business record because as a non politician.
His business record is his record he's accusing -- -- a sort of tax and bail out of pocket watch.
-- this business was assessed at least eight -- for not paying taxes and that is company was the number one and tax delinquent.
-- company failed to pay taxes.
Then got -- taxpayer bailout.
Bailout -- and not -- Kentucky conservative.
Well let's let's make Tea Party conservatives look twice at -- but he says it was alone in and granted it wasn't a bailout.
And the tax liens were on a hundred year old family business and happened when he was not running itself.
The primaries actually ten months from now next may lots of time for this to turn into one heck of a brawl Jonathan.
Yeah I'd certainly looks like it I'm column why don't you hear it would be remiss of me.
Not to look full wood to 2016.
Because we're all fascinated by the presidential race even if we are.
Three years away from it that Hillary Clinton all of this -- huge figure on the democratic side.
-- -- lunch with President Obama at the White House a couple of days ago and then -- the meeting I'm kind of almost more intrigued by breakfast when Vice President Biden who was -- may wanna be a candidate himself what is.
What what was your take on all of those meetings.
Well the president particularly but also mr.
Biden -- essentially providing mrs.
Clinton with an opportunity to share some of the spotlight -- the White House aides on both sides.
Aren't gonna tell us much about what happened at the -- for the president -- the breakfast with the vice president but they say it was more about socializing and trying to catch up.
The issue does show some kind of democratic unity on the left that the Democrats are -- -- get together and play nice.
Whereas you have all this GOP selecting between the Tea Party and establishment with the Republicans but.
What can be fairly certain is that they did not discuss Clinton's upcoming campaign.
Or her connection to an investigation.
Into allegations of conflict of interest misuse of position and mismanagement.
Of the EB five visa program Jonathan this is a little bit complicated but folks need to know what's going on that programs grant special visas.
To foreigners who invest a half a million dollars in the US now.
Alejandro Mallorca so you need to know that -- is a guy who runs the visa program for the department of homeland security and is currently the president's nominee.
To become a number two a DHS the deputy director of the Department of Homeland Security.
But now there's questions about him because he allegedly intervened to help a company called Gulf Coast which was run by.
Hillary Clinton's brother Tony Rodham.
They wanted to get that company -- BB five program but Gulf Coast has connections a lot of people who work there former Clinton Era figures from the ninety's.
And the company -- partners and shares a building with a firm in Virginia called green tech now.
This gets -- even closer to more -- tonight's Terry McAuliffe was running for governor as the democratic nominee in Virginia was the democratic national committee's chairman for years.
And is the Clinton administration's.
Top overall all time biggest fund raiser.
Is also tied into that so what you end up having is an investigation into an Obama administration official accused of using his influence to help a firm run by Hillary Clinton's brother.
Who does business with the -- of all these Clinton old folks.
And it brings up exactly the same sorts of questions about fundraising scandals that kind of plagued the Clinton administration back in the nineties.
It is not at all what Clinton hope to be talking about on the -- that she came to visit the White House back talking about the kinds of things that made it look bad forty years ago.
Yeah and then of course is the even seamy side of scandals the F.
The sexual sold Anthony Wayne I what what do you make of the the idea.
Call that -- has been told to -- and it seems to -- DeVito -- largely.
On the basis of -- unattributed sources.
But the idea that the clintons off horrified.
That we -- sexting scandal could somehow stick to them.
Well it's difficult to make that connection but the best connection through it is humor -- -- -- Mr.
Who has been for years one of Hillary Clinton's closest.
Confidant and advisors whole month.
Has taken leave from some of her other non campaign related duties and volunteering and helping and consulting with mrs.
In order to focus on her husband's campaign a little bit in August.
And both the clintons are very fond of woman she's a friend as well as an employee and an advisor.
And they're disappointed in mr.
-- behavior they worry that it makes Obama look bad and -- will raise questions and remind people.
That infidelity and sex scandals was a pretty familiar theme during the Clinton administration and perhaps people might get tired of that.
That's the big fear for Hillary Clinton if people go back and think of her as the First Lady during Bill Clinton's presidency there's a lot of things that opponents can lying there.
If she can stay focused on her time in the senate and -- secretary of state and being a candidate.
Perhaps some of those things some of the baggage from bill won't have way way too heavy for Ernie we got three years to sort this stuff -- she's gonna get badgered all the time over.
Yes indeed it's going to be a delicious three years that's -- -- I -- camera not cheap political -- my great to see I was at a -- thanks so much about Jonathan thank.
