And welcome to FOX News Sunday panel plus with Nina Easton Dennis Kucinich -- -- mr.
-- and Evan -- just as we left the program senator you were going to.
Make an observation about the potential for a Republican to win 2016 and you're about to say.
I was about to say that the position of the Republican Party today reminds me so much the position of the Democratic Party in the seventies and the eighties where we had an element in our party that exercised.
You know outsized influence that made it hard first win national elections like congressional elections but national -- so for ten consecutive presidential elections.
We either elected Republicans.
Or moderate Democrats I think the situation is reversed now what -- where we will elect Democrats or moderate Republicans.
So if there is an element in the Republican Party that just hold their nominees for the -- -- right.
And issues that offend Hispanics were the most rapidly growing part of the electric.
Women were the largest party electorate and young people who by definition of the future that makes them hard two win or cost in the house.
It's cost him several senate seats Indiana Missouri and Delaware spring to mind.
And it does make the Electoral College map part of the presidential level there's there's been a lot of talk -- -- as to whether or not the primary process -- candidates to part of the -- the -- when general elections.
I felt that I fundamentally disagree with this if you look at the list of names that you put out there earlier somehow mean the biggest rising stars out there and Republicans really online at all Chris.
Blue shade themselves off and you know -- us.
Although the company I don't think you know but.
But look at some of those states that they they're -- -- governors to and they have once it's just Susanne Martinez and New Mexico a state that has about 50% Hispanic population.
She is not some she comes fairly moderate Republican she has very strong conservative he is.
A lot of this is about tone and leadership and your ability to sort of -- those policies to the country.
And way to bring people along and and then that was one of Mitt Romney's failings something that he struggled with when he was.
Running but it doesn't necessarily mean it's gonna reflect the next generation he.
That's so that's also part of the right in the primaries that by the time that he tried to move back to the middle he was prime target for the flip flop accusation by the U bombing campaign -- -- -- You know what what I think we have picture.
Is actually a failure on the part of both parties to address the needs to practical aspirations of the American people for jobs for health care.
Being able to have a house a home for education of their children I mean if with the two party system.
Take the mask off it's not working that's a fact I see this as a Democrat.
And you know I'm not happy about the fact that there's not enough debate within our party and Republicans it's good that there's a debate within the party but the truth is we look the two party system.
What we've got war and unemployment I don't buy it it's getting harder and harder to accept it.
I'm just gonna back a little bit of history about when -- talk about primaries.
You know it's very hard to unseat incumbent president.
And when when you have -- it has succeeded the incumbent president has gone through a very rough and tumble primary Jimmy Carter.
Not only had about election bad economy that people forget he had Ted Kennedy there.
BHW bush same thing he had he went through a tough primary bad economic issues but also tough primary.
So it was it was difficult I think to unseat Obama last year just just given that.
And I think -- -- the -- again -- -- -- the right.
And not necessarily a toll for your senator -- I just I thinking this the party needs to recognize that where the weaknesses are are with women.
Are with the Spanish unit kill the immigration bill and -- Marco Rubio which some on the -- are doing a being a sellout for supporting immigration reform.
I mean is that there is danger signs and this talk of at threatened government shut down.
The Republican Party brand right now is not in good shape and I think that there's that there needs to be some humility on the right about that and then go about where to go.
I'm -- that I think Kimberly is right you've got into parts and a campaign you got the the messenger and there are a lot of attractive potential messengers out there he also got the message.
And if you get just drug -- for the ideological right in the message offending Hispanics and suburban women and I think it's just hard for the math even though we are 52.
48 country very narrowly divided the number affectionate well -- I think Dennis is on to something here if I was giving advice to my Republican friends -- -- -- the business of doing well -- here this morning I think that don't make this left vs right.
I think you're I think Dennis is right that the majority of American people are dissolution with politics -- all things Washington.
Make it -- vs small we're standing up for the middle class the little guy how do you create opportunity in this country that's for their message.
-- is the only thing I would say that.
That I think is encouraging if -- would like to see more time on the debate is if you look for instance what happened in 2012 look at for instance on immigration.
I mean one of the reasons that was a really ugly debate in the -- and that.
Romney ended up getting -- because everybody was I mean they were all to the right there -- nobody out there willing to stand up and make a -- case for instance -- pressure from.
That's likely to be different this next time you are likely Gingrich hi -- -- as far as you know -- you are likely to have a Paul Ryan and some of these people out there -- -- going to be talking about tax reform immigration reform some of the things that actually do resonate.
Congress because that is what the democratic primary looks like point six there's that there ought to -- -- -- the red carpet for Hillary Clinton let your guys are ready but it remains to be seen whether or not that's the path to the presidency.
Whether or not a primary would help the party or not.
We don't know but I will say one thing as a result of this discussion you know we had a -- statement earlier about poetry.
And we had a poetry tells -- slow things down connect with the heart.
What I -- -- whether politics.
And we need to connect with the heart of the American people.
We need to be able to reach people and show them.
There is some love and some concern about their dilemmas and until our politics does that.
It just you know these elections go wherever I -- -- -- -- on the Republican side connects with the heart Chris Christie certainly reaches in and grabs.
Right I think that there is you don't there's going to be a desire her what.
The authenticity I think there's I think there's an impediment he meant I think -- mentioned number number of them I think and it's a strong field.
And there's a lot of you know rising stars but again.
You know did get pulled the right -- -- become bloody did to do you have to say things like that right Mitt Romney had to do the self deportation -- didn't have to admit it have to do is that there isn't trying to.
-- very like it looks like they're only sixteen Republican primary is going to be strengthen or weaken the eventual.
And you tweet while I think it weakened him and the eventual candidate kind of disconnect the Democrats -- quickly that can vote on -- emerged bloodied to broke it's not such -- well and I.
Feb -- primary debates for -- -- is likely it's critical mission.
I was on the on the democratic side I just keep having flashbacks of 2007.
Hillary was going to be the nominee remember so I just and I think she's she's very.
Aware of what you know what she went through and that -- and that being the presumed nominee and you know she's at the top when -- -- from the top.
Down so I you know and I and we don't even know she's gonna run so I -- that we -- have to be careful about just presuming she's.
Phenomenal -- let me just take a quick -- here before we -- who thinks that Hillary is gonna run and run -- and fans now.
And our thanks to help -- appreciate it.
Please check in with us throughout the week on Fox -- -- -- dot com and we will see you again next Sunday thanks for joining --
