John Bolton he is a Fox News contributor.
As well as foreign affairs analyst and -- there.
Gordon Chang gentlemen thank you both for joining us ambassador to you first you just heard secretary of state John Kerry kind of lay out.
-- a semi indictment of what they believe is the facts on the ground that chemical weapons were used there doesn't sound to me ambassador is if it's it's a matter of whether or not to attack but when to attack.
What do we wait for now.
Well it was a very strong very emotional statement it still does.
Explain exactly what the United States' objective would be.
In using military force against the -- regime but I agree I think military forces certainly -- and I think the president's credibility.
But badly wounded.
Earlier this year won the first reports of major use of chemical weapons.
-- made public crossing the president's red line of about a year ago.
And the administration did not think so certainly something -- common -- and how much remains to be saying.
And I wanna pick up -- began ambassador on -- -- -- just a short time ago before secretary of state Kerry spoke saying the you don't believe that.
That an attack on Syria is necessarily the answer and all of this.
Now I don't I don't think people are will will say that the use of force.
Is got a resolve the issue either of the chemical weapons or of the situation.
On the battlefield in Syria even a major use of American force I don't think.
At this point can tip the balance and I think the signal that it sends to Iran.
And its nuclear weapons program.
In fact is that Iran is best advised if the US strike Syria.
To move up even more rapidly to get its nuclear weapons capability in place.
And Gordon Chang when -- when the phrase tipping the balance comes into play that that's very important here if America does strike first of all do you agree with the ambassador that it's not.
Maybe a means to a solution here do you also think if we do strike that it's important to go after certain targets.
I think it's important to go after the chemical weapons site and also decapitation strikes against the regime.
You know I understand that we may not be able to tip the balance.
But that's important to send a message to -- the -- around the world that the use of chemical weapons is completely unacceptable.
Because if we don't do something.
Then we're just making the use of chemical weapons extremely likely we didn't do -- thing in spring and this year now they've done it in August.
And if we don't do something now -- clearly another road maybe -- drugs we use WMD in the future.
Yeah and what about looking at the Middle East chess -- Gordon Chang do you believe that a strike on Syria how do you believe what would change how the -- -- in that area react.
I think the most important thing is how Iran Iraq it every accident as ambassador Bolton says.
Because you know were concerned of course about chemical weapons but we need to be even more concerned about or -- -- -- weapons capability.
Because -- perhaps within five months six months they could build the bomb that they wanted to they're the classic bomb in the basement situation where they are able to rapidly neutral arrives.
And clearly that would be a much worse scenario for Israel -- allies in the region and for the United States as well.
And ambassador -- you've been down this diplomatic row before clearly as the president has said that they want to get their allies on board with this.
How long does it take what are we talking about as a time -- here we know Russia is against this.
We know others are against this but if we get enough allies what's the time line in your estimation.
Honestly I don't I don't think we need any allies in the -- I don't really see the purpose of a military strike here but I forgot to do it we should be doing it right now every day that goes by.
Allows decide to move this chemical weapons stockpiles to other locations may be in heavily populated urban areas.
To -- disburse his command control and communications for his military.
To take steps to minimize the effect of the US strike we're not gonna have any action in the UN Security Council.
Which I'm sure the Obama administration -- like Russia and China have made that very clear.
So so gathering allies at this point might be might be helpful in some political sense.
But it allows the military advantage I think to move to Syria.
-- -- just buys time ambassador John Bolton Gordon Chang gentlemen thank you both.
