I am Chris firewall and here are your buzz cuts from Fox News first for Friday the -- didn't.
Let's go up.
Syria cash shadows on 2016 -- that's vice president Joseph Biden former secretary of state Hillary Clinton.
They're running for president or at least.
Probably running for president and very much want you to think he's running for president and vice president Biden's position.
What about the president's Syria policy as it relates to them and their chances.
It's making it a little tricky out there on the campaign trail as they try to get things going we'll talk about that you'll like.
What about this.
John Kerry claims the US could still strike maybe.
Where that -- strike might still be -- work that's John Kerry he's in Geneva Switzerland.
He's meeting with Syria -- off.
The Russian foreign minister.
What is America's negotiating chip that the president might in fact deem it necessary to go back to congress and try again to win approval.
For serious strikes other than that guy you can -- Okay here you got a number three.
Congress not waiting on Obama.
Those are -- -- into the ducks are not all lame but some of them are I'm not saying anything about these doubts in particular.
That President Obama is getting treated like a lame duck as lawmakers in congress huddle amongst themselves.
Without any administration oversight.
To try to cut a deal on the soon to explode fiscal crises.
Waiting for congress it's kind of significant we'll talk about that what about this.
The president is trying to pacify today unions on obamacare Richard Trumka.
Key of -- rather magnificent mustache is going to be at the White House today he is going to have meetings with the president and the vice president to talk about his -- Really big complaints about the president's help off speculation among Republicans.
That there is a carve out coming they're just waiting the Republicans are trying to preempt it -- is job would be to keep the unions -- quite ascent.
Until the deal could be done.
Will talk about that a little bit and last and certainly not least.
What a bunch of clowns that's right the Associated Press tells us.
That -- -- police seven mini ten with two clowns and side crash outside your spare the minivan was also pulling a trailer with a clown car police said the driver 83 year old James Billingsley -- his dimples that clown.
Suffered a minor bump on his head his passenger -- 77 year old Norman -- -- of York was unhurt.
Police said -- was wearing clown shoes but the -- footwear apparently didn't play a role in the crash.
For real you would know that and more if you were already signed up for Fox News first -- do it it's free it's fun it's right -- -- -- Internet or not.
But we're gonna do it all right now because its power -- They sit on the floor today.
-- -- -- -- Anything that can be done to slow down hurt more since.
Get rid the government anyway that's good at shutting down the government obviously is what majority of the Republican Cox wants to -- -- house.
That was senate majority leader Harry Reid -- America's resentment there -- not Sacco and -- said he was talking about out.
The Republican conference and what he -- is there desire to shut down the government.
-- says the majority leader and this is power play.
And hello again Internet and say hello to your friend and mine -- -- -- he is the editor in chief of the Washington treaty and fallible and I recommend it highly act.
-- -- So I'm Matthew question and I guess that's appropriate right.
The question is.
As Harry Reid is at denouncing conservative Republicans what he says is there lusty desire to shut down the federal government.
We also know that.
Pelosi and explosive the minority leader.
The speaker of the house in the minority leader in the senate Mitch McConnell all that huddled privately yesterday try to figure out a way -- you know -- wasn't there.
Anyone from the administration.
Any representative of the president.
Am I wrong to view this is a pretty strong -- Atlanta it's absolutely I mean I'm wrong and -- I'm absolutely wrong.
Well you're right.
So that's that's what outside our naked -- here now we're talking about that's look the president is clearly -- lame duck we see -- -- every aspect of this policy what's most interesting to me ago.
Is what's happening on the house side with the Republicans.
And that is if you.
I entered this week expecting the house to vote on a short term continuing resolution to avoid the shut down.
So that the Republicans couldn't move on to what they think -- the bigger fight of the debt ceiling and whether to raise the debt ceiling -- such.
Whether Obama -- as a bargaining chip in the negotiations.
We end the week.
With no continuing resolution.
Word is the threat of government shutdown higher than I think than it was the beginning we were and so what you see with that meeting there.
-- I think scrambling.
On -- to show that Obama is no longer has any leverage it if -- had any to begin with with this congress.
I don't think John Boehner and Eric Cantor know what to do.
Well no they they pretty clearly do not an accident and that is that is pretty and now it it was argued.
In -- them in these pixels yesterday.
Republicans might eventually come back around to Kantor's sort of to step -- Where you at least you you don't get the funny moniker but -- -- the senate it's a means to force the senate to.
To cast the vote.
What do you think.
Well I mean I think that was part of the plan for this week it fell through I think we have to look more broadly at.
What is happening with the house representatives who were the ascendant factions in that in house representatives and I and I believe it is the more.
Useful movement among the house attack caucus who were being led whether obviously -- look to their leader in the senate and Rand Paul.
But -- -- seed and seeing the emergence of -- I'm not sure Michigan.
And a lot of these national security debates I think we have to view the budget fight in the context of the larger fight we're having over civil liberties and national security Syria.
-- constitutional powers I'm glad you brought them.
I would submit that well -- The dire -- of the situation.
In terms Boehner and cantor being able to offer something to their conference.
There will be broadly palatable or -- -- palatable to the tune of 217 votes.
On this stuff is certainly a factor here there is also the factor though that for the four of them for the four leaders.
Watching what happened on Syria.
And what the president did on Syria.
Which was basically to say this stinks congress you take this it's it was the it was the bag of doggie -- And it was here congress you take it.
And then Vladimir foods that actually no I'll take it.
That watching that school out and what the president did there may have convinced that the quartet -- them.
That they're gonna have that bit.
They're gonna have to do this themselves.
It's sure there's no question and and we seen this budget fights over the last two years.
The administration talks -- -- -- they're negotiating and they make a big show what we decided we can't negotiate these radical.
-- longer and so I think now you see Reid Pelosi McConnell and Boehner saying.
Let's just solve this the best we -- among ourselves -- -- fear you know it's not fear my analysis.
It is that whatever reason -- promises may not actually be doable right because of the ascendant Tea Party wing in the house do now -- No quibble with you you are right -- -- -- we say that word Tea Party.
What we're really talking about it is the same movement it is definitely street is definitely stronger but it it.
Ends -- close it goes by different names it's gone by the term western conservatism cold water it has a long history inside the Republican Party.
And it shares and non interventionist Jennifer it's well it's not that they're not interventionist there there less intervention and when they enter the picture as -- Has Barry Goldwater said.
There's that and then there's also the -- the government -- and this is this sort of ebbs and flows depending on the fortunes of the Republican Party.
And other political note today held that Joseph Scarborough.
Yes I'm serious.
-- Joseph Scarborough who hosts a television on MSNBC.
Is going to write the book that he's going to change the thinking inside the Republican Party.
It's what do you think we've November I hate that Scarborough is -- is going to sweep through the GOK.
I always look forward to waking up Chris because I know the world will find a way to amuse me in this -- My big laugh of the morning came when I opened up Mike Allen's playbook political playbook.
Which is just too perfect window into the ruling class -- my whole life he -- and I like Mike Allen is saying is you wanna know what the elites in Washington are thinking you've read playbook that's why I read it.
And this -- in Washington are thinking that Joseph Scarborough is manifesto.
It's going to read galvanize conservative movement.
And I count based -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- You Internet you're not going -- for at least pleased because we are going to rock and roll our way through the rest of the dominant half hour Internet political television.
Of the mid day and as we talked about the Democrats and their when he sixteen ambitions and possibilities and -- Syria.
May impinge upon them.
We will also get the latest censored from a congressman whose district I covers the naval bases that will be if there are hostilities.
They'll be good folks on the -- talked -- -- we'll do all that when we come back -- -- program.
-- -- C universal norm at the heart of our global order.
It demands a strong response from the international.
Led by the United States.
Those were remarks from former secretary of state Hillary Clinton Rodham if you like -- the 2013 liberty medal.
Ceremony in which she got from Jeb Bush in that demonstration -- their own families in American politics.
Earlier this week where she was endorsing -- But it can the president's policy on Syria but -- at the UN and generally get what -- -- and this is our I should point that out.
So say hi again to choose your favorite -- Sarah -- she is.
Really didn't really mean -- former director of the White House National Security Council yes.
How -- you've been hiding the ball I don't.
I basic view is just as as as writing helping Mitt Romney write a book on this time former director of the White House National Security Council here.
Could you have a skilled Ukraine dollars and -- -- that was an issue here.
But that was yeah yeah it's basically I don't look at -- what happens when you -- -- -- to his back on his heels suddenly in this political.
Today I'm done -- -- the former Press Secretary for the DNC he's he can put out a press release she can actually get stuff done that's all.
-- feel very few people right exactly very few people have been killed except my amazement at their excellence follow him at T -- on Twitter former.
Well I'm kind of like a little blown away -- Atlantic -- OK so.
Now let's get away from that talk progress politics and Tony -- -- at least -- like this and I.
So Joseph Biden.
He's going this weekend Tom Harkin -- -- senator from he's having -- for a now there was some discussion here before you -- -- and about what steak Fries now.
What do steak -- it really is Perkins thing is not a steak Fries steak fry is everybody ought to -- It's.
Somebody hosts this and that you bring a cooler with your own state can't.
They have the -- senate select health club has a steak -- You bring -- a mistake you pay a little something and they have set ups.
Paper plates forks and knives.
Maybe some potato salad -- dollar and maybe -- some real -- but everybody brings a cooler with their own state.
And Canadian club.
In its and then you show up and it's a BYON.
Room and bring your meets.
So that's what is a -- supposed to be there anyway in this case with the state -- actually is concerned there.
-- -- steak -- actually it is that Tom Harkin -- it's a cattle call I'll opt for people who want to run for president.
Top mark in the -- the kingmaker in Iowa as a manager Biden was gonna go and further stoked speculation.
Now he's got to go talk about Syria at least behind closed doors -- -- right in so running for president or even wanting people to think you're running for president's kind of a paint company.
-- -- It is part of the job -- and.
And Joseph Biden.
Like many many others before him and after will prove I can chew gum and walk at the same time.
And so you're you're here in the space sometimes you're gonna have thinking can things -- moved out of the way.
You know there's any -- that's okay it's probably 2013 if you're looking long long advance he had exactly -- that he's not heard it's not harmful as no.
No Tom Harkin is gonna -- and they -- if he's not at their at the sacred that we.
What -- -- okay itself for Hillary Clinton it's a little more fraud.
Because for Biden he has no wiggle room as it relates the administration's policy on Syria his job is to go forward and say the president is right.
And Tom -- you need to get with us on this and not -- may say.
So it may not be comfortable but it's simple for the former First Lady it is not -- right.
I think she's a distance herself from where the administration is right now and that -- can be -- I don't think she can say look the UN has never been our friend.
Neither has -- -- that our friend our credibility is now on the -- internationally.
We look at president didn't miss a minute -- himself in his country's constitution his grandfather was don't show up.
And that he is a friend to Syria a Rihanna.
Colin and I spent.
And I think she has seeded sisters -- and remember my husband you know look at Bosnia we acted he acted swiftly the president could have gone behind closed doors with congress.
Brief them struck.
-- no wishy -- -- foreign policy.
But go please yes a couple things.
-- the president's -- with this incredible -- network and fundraising.
Potential so whoever the nominee is right you want us yeah here's you don't have to do so much if you described it it's more were thrown under the bus that the -- would really -- -- opportunistic.
Proceeding was middle of the road.
Meaning we're doing what -- -- Edwards were supportive.
Find that he's going to congress on this and and just demonstrating any Rand Paul said the same thing the trouble -- halt the -- sit back.
But every time involved BC has to say but I'm of those the president -- -- backing the president but he's done it by giving four.
Positions on this was to -- -- for towards sixty immediately closed before I woke up here I will want to -- well.
-- -- I -- understand both yeah but that's different -- that would be putting.
Folks in harm's way it's fine if you say this is what I stand for Bryant have to stand for something other than -- that I'm against the president I.
I guess what reveals that that's what reveals that if the president takes a while to figure this out and ends up being and foresight to something.
You reveal if you're.
On -- one of the four exactly anybody -- been -- him to say I'm against it even dragons I'm against that -- against this there where are your fellow Republicans on the question there.
Are all over the place with -- -- -- in pain are saying that's kind of sum payment or not I mean for 2016 okay well I.
We haven't heard you don't know I don't think we don't know that we governor Jeb Bush way and we haven't heard Chris Christie way and and they're not doing.
So meaning who in Utah and Ted Cruz Marco Rubio.
He has been also pretty quiet against right yeah and -- and -- -- in these companies also giving a line of you know you don't lead from behind so it's.
So my little -- just to clarify there's to -- there is they're they are I would say.
Opposed to the president's stance.
-- one is opposition -- insufficient -- -- -- and one here is opposition for excessive Ellicott City.
And this is reflects the divide in the Republican Party right now.
Where adds more libertarian folks say.
Did you basically he's for the Republicans it is.
But not provocative enough essentially that they that Republicans either think the president be going harder I'm not going at all.
Right right and I think the -- -- of the world Rand Paul are.
And -- I like see they're not where they should be it's irresponsible.
To say it's okay -- not act when their weapons of mass destruction on the line did.
The I think where the president was in the beginning is where Republicans should be that -- we should obstruction of acted swiftly because it sets an example for Iran.
For other countries that are.
It's not our friends and every.
And I -- that I think Intel's.
Position is that any conflict we're going to be apart and then there was a trigger and an important note the -- with Bosnia except that the need for an international call -- response as opposed to just generically.
We've advisory talking point practically.
If you get the did you get things that you want done and somebody else gets the credit to the -- that way everybody I don't think everybody.
President but in the beginning -- -- I can't we get a lot of civil -- don't like -- don't mess with.
That's a good point that she once again exactly should say -- -- Moldova okay.
Yeah I -- on.
Not even gonna get our guys we thank you for making time for us they have a great weekend and people and black on Friday the thirteenth don't know how Smart Smart Smart Smart.
You know what else is mark sticking around you know why.
Because a congressman from there from the armed services committee will be here to talk about what military options are in Syria.
He will talk about political back and forth he will make you smarter and help you understand more.
I guarantee -- And that is the destroyer the US asked Barry.
Headed for the eastern Mediterranean Sea where it will -- in the sport aggression of different kinds and maybe a launch some good stuff anyway.
And this is power play.
Welcome back that very.
Made its way from nor affect.
Wish lies within the congressional district rob Wittman congressman from the first district of Virginia.
Harris well Chris great to be with you now -- Barry is important -- all important no doubt but the many of the officers.
And sailors who are on the decks of the ships that are in the front lines.
Or maybe in front lines of this fight train and serve in your district.
You're on the armed services committee.
What are we ready to go we've heard a lot of concerning things from the military that we don't have enough assets in place.
That we're not ready to go over there is in fact is John Kerry said today's strike is still possible against Syria.
I'm deeply concerned about our nation's military readiness and as we've heard with the sequester these automatic budget cuts have gone in place with our military.
It puts us a very very difficult position as you know.
There were 700 billion dollars in cuts leading up to between twelve and in the sequester put another 500 billion dollars in cuts on top of that.
And as chairman of the readiness subcommittee outlook on a daily basis about this nation's military readiness.
In our readiness and he is -- -- If you look at the training that's available for sailors or Marines.
Or airmen for soldiers that continues to become less and less available.
The same with the equipment that they operate about its availability -- its operational capability all of those elements are deeply disturbing to me so if they are asked to go to Syria.
As a military leaders have said they can do that.
The concern is just -- -- turn turns into an enduring mission and I think it has a great potential turn into something more than just a launch cruise missiles and if it does.
With our current position of forces in Afghanistan and now you add to that another operation in.
The Middle East.
I think that stretches our forces terribly thin in again what it means is that if they're asked ago.
They're faced with a greater risk in greater risk is simply this.
That more men and women die in the defense of this nation if they are faced with an increased risk in that is absolutely untenable.
Unacceptable to me and that's why the issue military readiness and especially how the sequester has affected that.
Is a very very I think important point to consider as this nation in the congress looks at military.
You know we've heard chairman but again and we've heard others basically say that if the president does in fact.
I want to order military intervention in the region a new military intervention the region.
The sequester must go basically conditioning of -- a vote in support of -- resolution.
Force would be conditioned on the end of military sequestration -- where you -- Well I'm not in favor of conditioning any vote based on.
Issues -- -- with funding the military I think they're both separate issues in both need to be addressed separately I am opposed to US military action in Syria.
Four simple reasons one is is that there's not a clear direct and immediate strategic threat to United States.
Secondly is the mission itself is not clear nor is what -- desired outcome is it the the mission that we've heard is all over the place and in third.
The ability of our military from a resource standpoint to actually pursue that particular mission and I think there's a high likelihood it turns into an enduring mission.
That's where my concern is.
In the longer term remember this -- in the short term -- Syria but in the longer term our military does not have the resources it needs.
To sustain what we need to defend this nation that is a separate issue.
While it has a play in the decision on Syria.
We have to I think.
By for -- those issues and saying either your -- against it was your dad and -- -- a good event itself is is strategically of interest here on states and then what is the mission what are we hope to accomplish and then secondly because this is a longer term issue is.
What are we doing to properly resource or military.
Those questions need to be done separately I'm opposed to Syrian.
-- action by the US military action by the US and Syria.
And I'm very much in favor setting aside to sequester as it relates to our military that actually has to be done.
So your -- who as good Tuesday.
We try to flee country or hurt us yes.
-- and the Internet agrees with you mark and the court says it is irresponsible to go to war when our interest -- not in danger.
And it's illegal to boot so you via the Internet -- what's your sense.
So the question is this the United States.
With the military assets that we have we hear a lot about being stretched and you mentioned about -- that you -- area focuses readiness.
As a -- that things are stretched that as John Kerry sits across from Sergei Lavrov and the Geneva today.
For another day of talks about Syria the administration says.
-- at Kerry says that we still might strike.
Now that do the Russians don't seem to be buying that and since the president didn't seem likely to be able to get the resolution through congress.
Is there also and the Russians seem to be indicating that they don't think that we even have the wherewithal.
If things really got hot over there that we -- that we could hold our ground.
I think that saying that's a very important issue to consider as we look at how things are playing out diplomatically.
Yeah I'm very skeptical that the Russians -- the Syrians ultimately are serious about.
Getting those chemical weapons out of circulation in Syria getting them out of the hands of ostracize you've seen.
They continue to place conditions on that.
By a sure sign in the series -- -- listen give us thirty days to figure out where chemical weapons are located.
Then there -- some indications they might even be moving them around as we speak.
Just as you said -- now rushes as a condition that you have to call off any potential strikes in order -- to enter into a deal.
So all those things I think are very very.
Compelling as to why we need to make sure we have in mind.
What the outcome of this might be if the if the strategy is no chemical weapons or else what is the or else and it's just as you stated.
I think the house is overwhelmingly opposed to military action.
Within the question is what and what comes after if these negotiations with Syria and Russia.
-- -- I think the United States is still face we're looking at other partners in the world coming together trying to make sure this issue was addressed one of the Ares I think we could push more early on.
Was interaction with NATO.
And -- partner -- we have NATO nations that have been with us enough in other situations this is an opportunity for them along with the United States to come to the forefront if these negotiations fall through and I'm all for diplomatic efforts but I want to make sure we have some kind of contingency plan.
If you knew where she's out and was -- you would know him already is congressman rob innocent from the commonwealth of Virginia we thank you for making conference today Chris I'm -- Not -- Jonathan Hunt is up next that's true.
As we like to do every day.
We'll work from our friend Charles.
I said was a war criminal and -- team.
Was a pariah for covering in the UN on the poison gas attack and because of that.
Will flummoxed our president is all the -- saw him in which putting -- and he's now.
-- of -- -- a statesman he's a partner in peace and he's in -- position we can elect to the United States of America.
