-- welcome back I am still Chris Arnold and this is power play and we are joined by Bob Cusack things I tell you about Bob Cusack is he's managing editor health.
He is welcome guest on this Internet telecast all the time thank you Chris and we are waiting now for word Bob.
From Steve Centanni who's out in the field covering this shooting at the navy yard.
But Fox News has confirmed.
That there are two suspects.
In the shooting and also that there are ten men injured did.
To some fashion or another.
I think it's hard for people.
Outside of Washington to comprehend.
This is right here were on Capitol Hill right this is a half a mile away.
If you come in -- back way to work its.
You go right past it so this is caused a lot of vegetation here in Washington.
Yeah high level of security there so that -- some issues of whether.
How they got in -- where -- allowed -- it and to having multiple shooters also.
Then it's obviously going to be question.
But terrorism and what -- -- there it's not just one disgruntled.
Employee of those you know those that proves to be true.
There the war were other reports that there might be three shooters so.
-- very fluid situation.
And of course -- It's as you say wind when the news first broke on this it sounds like well there's two.
Right there where there's there's one -- what this sounds -- it's a work places or whatever then there were three now we've confirmed two.
And that takes it out of the realm or -- starts to move it away from the realm of workplace violence and into something that this a planned strike.
Yes without a -- I mean it would it.
He is it's one of these things where it is one sole gunman.
It's likely not terrorism there's some type of workplace violence and I think we've -- you know this on -- -- -- values along gun in Vietnam.
And then I think there was a controversy there for a while the administration would label let terrorism.
-- later did but was a little bit slow on the go out there but.
This one clearly and that's why the president has been briefed and that's -- the defense sectors involved because it's obviously very soon to a serious situation.
And where is coming from.
And to put it in perspective what the media -- is.
The navy yard is part tourist attraction and the navy yard is -- office are.
But it is a military guys and basically you travel around in this is a southeast DC yeah.
-- the nationals ballpark.
Give a bunch of new high rises and a bunch of -- -- your bars and all kinds of stuff and jammed in the middle of it is an idea they have a great museum.
Which is the little power plays like you and it's all of -- that this is not in any remote way naval base this is right right in the mix.
Urban -- It's a huge sheets can't this sense -- into the 30000 people working there and it's very pretty was there once and it's one of the -- where.
You know it is in your backyard.
And that's why it startled so many people wonder when the news broke this morning especially.
People on capitol.
Yeah well all right we will get to the latest on that as we have -- we're hoping to hear from.
Since time here soon and you don't wanna talk about an -- I wonder let's take a listen -- Elizabeth Warren had to say about.
Summers this morning which is on Fox Business.
I don't think -- was any secret that Larry was not my first choice for Federal Reserve chair.
That was Elizabeth Warren she was on.
With Fox Business is going -- Larry she was document that was not her favorite choice.
Was Larry Summers who withdrew.
In his -- for the Federal Reserve president was supposed to come out today make remarks about the economy sort of hallmark holiday like it was five years ago that Lehman Brothers imploded.
And we started gushing money into -- the the federal government started borrowing money to rush to Wall Street.
But in reality.
He's probably not going to be able to do that today given something of this magnitude in Washington or at least it's gotta be different.
Yeah I doubt it this is this summer's withdrawing his name it is a big victory -- the last inning basically they.
They push the president on this and it was getting to the point where Democrats are starting to come out against him on the banking committee so -- -- The president is being nominated Summers wouldn't have to line Republicans that was not going to happen and Summers knew it.
He wasn't that -- get out of committee so.
Janet Yellen could be we don't know but certainly -- is likes genteel.
-- would be the first a woman at.
They're -- -- we should clarify and yet here is talking about a turning off the pump.
This is about attitudes about Wall Street regulation and things that are more important for these folks who cracked down harder.
On them on the big banks and and and those kinds of things.
Where the president -- is the left his head too big victories and he Dixie Summers withdraw he did it almost and it's a fit of -- Where it would be he wrote he did not have to write that letter and he did not have -- -- -- in that public fashion.
He could have just been chosen against and and so it goes yet.
But instead he took he was a -- of writing a letter a dear Mr.
Because other people are so mean and nasty I'm going to for the good of the country withdraw at the back.
So making it clear what happened.
-- Syria with the president backing off of his request for the authorization of military force.
Budget negotiations with Republicans I'm not getting the feeling that liberals are going to be -- section Mary Lou.
No they're not in the challenging the president now on sequestration basically saying don't agree anything.
That keeps the -- in place Steny Hoyer the number two Democrat in the house -- a loyal soldier to -- Hamas.
Saying I disagree with the president so this house minority house Democrats actually.
Shifting some policy here when they're saying OK if Republicans gave an obamacare funny was -- probably well.
Don't expect us to go along just -- on the sequestered and.
And remember they have tremendous power this house minority has tremendous power in this which is to get anything through because he's going to be so many Republican defections on the it's going to be it's going to be incumbent on Democrats.
To make it happen.
But it is incumbent on me so -- I'm grateful for you being with us to talk about things ranging from shootings -- Federal Reserve.
You are trying to help us out we thank you about -- I think it.
OK let's go now I understand Steve Centanni is really talked to you Steve -- out there.
I am neither is our OK yeah just a lot of confusion here at the scene -- I am here.
We're -- a news conference from the metro police department that's our Washington DC metropolitan police.
They said they'll put somebody -- surely it's actually been a while so we don't know -- -- that'll happen but we're we're hoping we'll get more information.
From them they said it's a very fluid situation and that's putting it mildly.
There -- a lot of activity out here and you know it all started at 8:20 this morning at building 197 on the Washington navy yard.
That is the headquarters of the naval.
Sea systems command were they.
They purchase they build they operate -- maintain that the navy ships worldwide all the US navy ships to very historic facility built in 1799.
It was a scene of terrorist people reported for work.
At -- two running out on Monday morning.
One witness told me she heard gunshots echoing through the atrium -- tall atrium -- that office building worse 3000 people work.
She knew it was gunshots she was scared she panicked all the people.
First floor at the time we're scared they saw a security guard with her gun -- the security to get out get out.
And so there were people running for their lives from the ground floor it turns out this.
-- so that we lost David you've got the gist of it and it.
We'll keep you posted is there any updates we are awaiting that press conference we are waiting for news about all that police activity Steve was -- -- We anything on that will give it -- -- I promise but otherwise we're gonna sort we're gonna try to plow ahead here on politics.
Take a break and let's stick around.
And -- your -- I think -- shareware.
I don't know many Republican big debater.
-- at home in the background popular -- but you would you were hearing from Ted Lewis he is a Democrat is from Des Moines, Iowa.
That means that what he thinks is kind of important.
If -- was leaving a state -- that was hosted by Tom Harkin but he was treated to a lot of red meat from vice president Joseph Biden this power play.
Welcome back and as promised we will we bring you any late breaking developments from.
The scene of the shooting at the -- yards here in Washington DC.
But as to politics.
And let's do with Richard -- he is the house.
Of the Richard show appropriately titled.
He is the man of the left -- is it.
It would probably describe your radio presence indicated it syndicated trying to hook up with that it sounds good it's a good presence -- -- -- and also has a good presidency is a contributing editor and writer is a contributing editor and writer for the American conservative magazine he is a Fox News contributor and he -- that's -- stuff they changed it and I guess.
-- and by the way but I think that I want you were.
Appearance on haggard -- media buzz.
Milbank was very -- I thought that was very good thank you did you enjoy I did enjoy as a ratio you know I think I thought it was there was you guys we've we've been very -- -- about -- and -- Fixed angle and you magazine that was evolving -- finances.
-- -- -- goals -- getting a 500.
Now 121 members of the major media joined about initiatives of the gang of -- -- man.
And all that.
Stuff good stuff that there is stuff that there.
-- itself but I want to talk about this.
They'd love us now Joseph Biden -- should point out for clarity purpose Joseph Biden finished fifth in Iowa in 2000 today.
He carded an eight point 9% of the vote in the Iowa Caucuses in 2000 and it's all this stuff about Joseph Biden owns Iowa.
He's the king of Iowa is a little overstated that we've been seeing out there but.
He definitely gave democratic voters what they wanted to hear from their nominee in places.
I mean Biden gave the speech that they want it.
Written on Ted Cruz fire him up doing that retail politics thing that he got an Iowa had out he's out in the crowd he's dug in and out.
And as you heard for mr.
Who were there at the event they wanna know where's Hillary like how come she's -- -- the front runner.
-- -- Well I got to.
I think when it comes to retail politics is no nobody beats Google vice president Joseph Biden he's really good declare handing -- -- Kerry you know kiss the babies that's his style.
Always -- giving red meat to the crowd and I think we saw that luck this summer when the president gave him a lot of these speeches to give you spoke of the NAACP I wanna see spoke at Urban League spoke and -- submitted a lot of -- you know.
On sale which you can go back and changed -- -- -- debt and you know that's I think because of that.
Although you know he's gonna have he's gonna have some good gives you the heavyweight -- where's Hillary is a good question I think the good news for Hillary she does or does that -- just a little bit longer.
On because she's the heir apparent front runner on says she does that she's decided -- -- is going to run if you have we do not and a bright.
She can sit -- I'm rolling my eyes -- pretty aggressive action just a but we did see this from about Hillary Clinton once before in 2008.
They waited -- -- they -- where they stayed out of there and this freshman senator from Illinois from the neighboring state came out.
Got everybody fired up totally wanted to hear by the time showed up it was -- I think it I think it could happen again not what Biden who don't know tennis is I think it was the one.
Yeah I think that.
The Democratic Party is surging on the left.
Think the anti Syria business in -- -- business.
That the desire to regulate the banks and is is desperately energy is and I can easily see Elizabeth Warner somebody else from the left maybe Martin O'Malley and the governor Marilyn.
Beating Hillary in sixteen just a way by Obama beat her in 2008 I think she's poorly positioned.
Relatives aware that that Democratic Party isn't that the that the election of are seen near election in the nomination -- and -- applause Leo and in New York City.
Is a harbinger of where the Democrats are.
-- -- And now this is the issue.
Here Richard is that the democratic base and we talk about this in the first segment of Bob Cusack.
-- -- is scoring victories right now.
Who do you had an interest is at an interest and second term star.
He started with a bold agenda that pleased what good self described progressives thought the president should be doing.
In his second term they were excited about it.
And then it came to the realities of governing and basically -- -- -- have to -- We'll have to wait we -- it's big caveat was you have to wait until after mid terms and then when I've gotten them when we run the table in mid terms that we're gonna do.
All of these very progressive things -- than that we're gonna do it.
That having that promise having been made.
Has this series things would have been tipping point on frustrations do you think.
For some for some basement.
You know I think the left is very interesting I don't think we have quite the same split that the right doesn't that sort of having this into parties civil war I think you know we're just cousins that don't agree at the moment -- and I think -- when it comes down to -- -- -- -- will definitely agree.
I think we'll definitely stand behind this president I think there's two but it upset with him about how we'll see everything went down -- throughput -- -- with him that he hasn't.
Push hard on immigration on what -- -- -- were more upset on you know our Republican colleagues are because of Philip L specifically -- -- -- like Republicans more than Obama but it.
It's these the desire that Jim describes though for standard -- for a champion of the left.
That's what Hillary -- Hillary Clinton was running as a moderate Democrat.
That's not where it wasn't just -- the reality for the Republicans is that it's going to be hard for moderate to win the party's nomination it's going to be tough for if there is -- real challenge of.
-- -- -- -- no idea that I think -- everyday -- wrong I think she is the heir apparent front runner but as we all know bombing in regional politics -- breath air -- Bernard does not mean that you -- you clinch the nomination I think Hillary does have a good shot to Clinton.
I think without being said are you know Joseph Biden outside -- and I think he's gonna have to carry a lot of water for that -- kill outlet in a lot of did some of the president's that is.
But I think Joseph Biden has been shot because he is that left bleeding guy that if you get him out there you can sort of -- will -- will let it rip.
What -- so -- give us a closing thought on this mr.
sinker and well I.
They actually think that intra party splits are much better.
Venture partners Clinton's I think you're -- and Republican -- back to -- -- -- -- six -- Goldwater RR 64 or on the democratic side Kennedy Carter 1980.
Or for that matter Obama Clinton and only.
There's a decision politics between -- Jackson infidels.
-- -- is never leaves you believe insidious -- of -- whatever my government.
It was heretic it is in your team they crush you they have to torture them.
Makes -- -- make an admitted there wrongly and then kill him.
Right and and other than that you need I think they do that in the answer is -- that it inside.
Both parties -- their desire to weed out characters is a million times stronger they're tired of the infidels.
I think -- for the part inter and intra party split second was the scene -- before 1996 -- twelve.
Is -- over and over again included on the left of the Democratic Party.
And existence today thanks Jay and said did you ever existed.
It does it does he happens everywhere waiting for the president.
To -- talk but as a result of that shooting -- bet that he is either not gonna talk.
Reason to talk much later in the day so we were gonna hear from him.
A little bit but let's take a look at the latest polling puts it it now to the president's tough -- and the big issue right now is can.
The administration get enough people signed up for the health law to make it -- we have some new polling out on this.
And the latest is from the USA today which is a long tracking poll with Q.
Which 53% disapprove of -- health -- highest level since it was signed.
And that's that's fresh out today.
And I'm missing my Wall Street Journal holes here this is very disconcerting to me.
But we had -- Wall Street Journal polling out tonight.
That said oh here -- -- that only 32%.
Of the uninsured thought they were fairly or very likely to use the president's health law.
The Democrat Democrats right now Richard or try to pin this on Republicans.
And they're saying because you guys are -- it because you guys are they saying it because you're down on it.
People don't wanna sign up and if everybody would just get together behind it -- and would be great.
I tend to -- that I think if we were to -- I mean we understand there's a lot of a lot of bomb the State's -- -- occupied by Republicans -- because of that leaves most of them majority of them and so they have demagogued.
What is the health the health care exchange which was an adequate -- expedition but that's another story for another day at least it's.
Right -- all innocent like but I think in the states where in the states where.
We've seen almost.
Blue democratic governors or democratic mayors particularly British Columbia -- the exchange to a correctly always seen is we've seen.
Success of -- -- -- -- -- -- -- an overwhelming numbers because they understand it's a chance -- to finally go see a doctor without the -- of worrying about how much cost so I think what that would have to happen -- as a nation whether you like the health so are not the healthcare law is bad law.
And so now but it is well it's time for everybody sort of get on board and make sure that they are that the citizens of this state benefit from -- I think that's part of the problem and I think that's disheartening part disheartening part that.
People would rather -- politics with it and make it -- the people mistaken health care.
And then the bush tax cuts are part of a lot to the Democrats never stop trying to repeal them in the Iraq War was national policy in the Democrats have to start fighting that.
I think they'll do the -- and mr.
-- fundamental mistake and maybe their determination made it too which is to say -- 15% of the people don't have health insurance as an issue.
However don't monkey with a 100% of people who do it got eight events -- and do have health insurance and it was a mistake they made every every American feels afflicted.
-- by the Affordable Care Act in a way that if they shouldn't have an intrusion sellers giant phone my apologizes and and it isn't I'm old enough -- the -- look at the size of the loan that is the -- that is the biggest bands and computer that's not.
Yeah that is -- -- I was saying that that.
Every American feels like they've got something at risk yet as -- obamacare resentment and that's not a good place to be if you're an incumbent but.
It will if I mean it's not gonna get defund it right now and the Republicans right now are looking for a way to.
You know its its interest and and Jim your thought on this.
For basically the way that things work in the house right now.
-- 218 votes to advance on the house there are about a 180.
Republicans who were conservative.
There and there are.
Not in Sydney government -- they're not interested in that.
You've got thirty or so that.
Heritage action and groups like that really have either convinced or -- frightened.
With the possibility of primary challenges.
And they are just gonna hold the line on this thing they'll -- absolutely go over the cliff right.
Well I think I -- equipment that I would say this there could be waiter thirty.
I think that this just does his posts are in the Washington Post about how both the President Obama and speaker venerable space rebellion general -- which is a pretty good piece by.
-- -- -- -- -- I I.
Guess it you know what's happened with the budget and that's the farm bill I wouldn't.
And -- a serious vote I would kind of anybody's vote I mean you know it would -- the speaker of the house Boehner and the majority leader Anderson they're gonna vote loser thing and then you turn on discovered that currently at 25 votes in the house and that was it might even including Democrats miners.
So I just think that the in this same piece in the Washington this morning congressman Moran Democrat of his I've never this is like the end of power he said this is like you know this quite quite a quote.
And again not to say that us.
Things and in won't get -- sort of somehow but -- -- -- get sorted out a way that the leadership things you know neither party.
You know -- -- like an analyst guy who sets up my next question perfectly and that's.
Think that this conduct I thought I thought as I was gonna say.
It sure ain't just Republicans and this and this is a theme today is we talk about we heard from Elizabeth -- here Brothers.
-- -- way out of this everybody once thought was that the president was gonna give at least a fig leaf for Republicans on entitlements to say something about Medicare something about.
It's Social Security or something.
To get a coalition together to put a longer term and now by the way we targeted a longer term deal Washington apartment one year -- year.
That the president was gonna do that I don't think he has any wiggle room now with his own party just as -- -- piece in the Washington Post pointed out.
No I mean he doesn't have removal with his party with that being said I think beyond that point I think this -- -- -- system so why negotiate -- tried to play this game before we -- with the -- -- -- -- this grand bargain.
Communities getting this across their -- so I think his presence says listen.
I really feel as though I'm my back against wanted to get anything done in John Boehner is now so why waste my time the sad part here is calm you know that beat bit and I think we're -- Republican strategy I think they need to separate.
This debt ceiling debate from Obama -- -- separate them -- have to separate division to support the by the put together they'll get negatives from both.
Guys I'm sure that you join me as we -- for our prayers and best wishes for all those.
And it's particularly frightening for -- so many people that work down there.
-- daycare down there and there's all of these people that -- -- there so our prayers here's Fox News Washington bureau are very much with.
All of our friends and all of our neighbors especially those in uniform.
Serving down the navy yard so keep them in your prayers to keep it right here.
KT McFarland is in today you know that she'll have the latest on that she knows a thing or two.
Being -- -- mom and a Defense Department expert she will have something on this.
You want to hear which is to say is that you should stick around and watch that.
Thanks for making some time for a -- see you back here tomorrow.
