Welcome back to on the -- of foxnews.com I'm Jonathan Hunt cyber security is an ongoing concern amongst.
Everybody involved in any kind of security from you on your own up.
Laptop cooler on your own follow -- all whatever it is to -- Defense Department who are apparently.
Us the victims of attempted hijackings millions of times -- every day what about our infrastructure.
It's often been said in fact it was said by Leon Panetta when he was defense accurately able when he was head of CIA one of the other.
The the next poll Pablo will be some sort of cyber attack so how serious is that this -- certainly sounds pretty serious when you hear things like that.
Jonathan -- -- is founder of red -- -- security joins us now from.
Our Atlanta bureau Jonathan when you hear you know officials say the next pearl -- but wow that's really frightening Amin.
It's not over dramatizing it or is that a very real reality.
Oh it's definitely real reality we've been going out to power plants chemical plants pipeline control systems for the past twelve years.
In the past two years there's been a sharp increase and focused effort from other nation states to have an interest in either stealing secrets about our facilities are actually gaining a foothold into our systems.
For a future attack so it's definitely a reality.
So it -- well can.
Those companies and those governmental organizations involved in securing our infrastructure due to keep all of us safe.
Well sure there's layered defenses that can be put placed I had a street -- of the attacks such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems.
And this really should take this to heart because.
When we're going on doing these assessments -- finding that there are a lot of weaknesses and our critical infrastructure need to be patched and corrected.
And we have adversaries especially the new ones from the Middle East with their very heightened interest -- what we have.
And it's it's certainly alarming to me if you look at the statistics 41%.
Of the malicious software released in 2012.
Was targeting oil and gas and energy sector.
-- you know we have did take take this to heart and -- -- much better job in defending ourselves.
Yeah I don't think many people's sort of necessarily think of the Middle East and immediately think of these.
Very sophisticated hacking groups -- -- this whole spring up class act and why.
Okay well otherwise a little bit easier to answer because.
You know the US played a roll and the stock snapped virus and the attack happened -- Cyrus need to infrastructure in 2010.
And so you know there it a little bit upset at the fact that you know we did take a little over a strike and boy oh.
Early on so there a lot of this is just mote motivated by revenge.
They -- -- in case something should -- they want to have a potential foothold on the cyber side.
In a separate cyber capabilities.
Gives an adversary a much better weapon to use that can be used in collaboration with the physical attack.
So while we believe that their capabilities is not quite as high as the US.
Is certainly alarming that they're taking great interest and are critical infrastructure are -- seeing the signs of that.
Yeah that's a that's a show I know you're you're part of this hack a whole team USA conference I believe in Atlanta.
This week Jonathan had these kind of conference is way you guys who know all of this stuff get together.
How important not all day for helping you the big companies and the most of all I guess -- government prepare for the next.
That's great if that means you're Russian yes I'm here at the -- -- hacker halted conference and there's -- so critical infrastructure track that deals just with critical infrastructure protection.
And about eighty to 90% other critical infrastructure in the US is owned -- private corporations so even though the US government would -- Do their best to try to protect our our critical infrastructure it's really.
On the backs and shoulders of privately held corporations.
And so these companies come to conferences like this are they send their security experts to these conferences to learn about.
Potential weaknesses and critical infrastructure defense strategies that they can take back to their companies.
To make a real difference and so we like to participate these events we go -- about thirty different events a year.
Where we get the message out there and -- instructional educational programs to try to raise the awareness.
All right Dow Jones and polling is founder of red tiger security.
Red tiger security don't come if you wanna check at their website is also website for the conference we mentioned half cup halted dot com Jonathan great great talking -- -- thanks very much of being have a great weekend.
