Explain to me the -- is a democratic controlled US senator presents a Democrat.
Explain to me pursuing this strategy that is doomed to failure.
-- well it's actually due to failure because as you pointed out it's a pseudo filibuster it's not happening.
During the vote right for this is leading up to the boat -- standing on principle.
-- -- leading up to the vote makes a lot of sense because it reinforces.
What Republicans don't like about obamacare.
Now we may not be able to accomplish our goal in this particular election cycle.
But it -- the next election cycle so.
If it doesn't disrupt the vote and we don't -- that precipice where it's going to shut down the government I think had crews standing on principle actually look at that.
Are right now on.
Here's the deal.
I was looking at the timetable very detailed in the New York Times today some of the back page is very good check it out.
And it it lays out the number of hours that have to be consumed by procedure in the US senate.
And to some extent a little bit in the in the house.
And it it puts you right up against the Monday October 1 deadline if not -- it depending upon.
How certain procedures in -- go.
Basil if the government shuts down among the Americans are going to be pretty angry about it when they start losing.
Things like services and paychecks and things get shut down partial shutdown right.
And then pulling -- I look at the survey suggests they're gonna blame it on Republicans right.
Do you think.
There are some folks at the White House.
They hope to see that happen well.
You the president took a -- he is not budging from his original positions and my guess is here they're looking at this and saying.
You know we're gonna let the Republicans think blame if you use the word precipice than I think it's a fantastic word because they react you -- Americans are tired of seeing.
Go right to the edge.
Come and communicate all this urgency and then all of a sudden it's back to normal what's nothing has still got done.
And absolutely you beat the Democrats and White House would love to be able to reclaim the Republicans work.
And rightfully so yeah.
You know on.
If the government does shut down even for a short period common Americans get angry about it and do blame Republicans let's face it always going to pay the I'm not I'm candy this may be a pure victory for Republicans age short term gain by standing on principle -- -- long term loss.
If Americans hold it against in the mid term elections which are rapidly coming up I mean they hear from -- -- rather -- festival from.
You played Russian weapons from them -- -- playing chess.
If you're able to -- to check -- him at -- at the next few moves which isn't that important election.
If we could take back the senate increase armored cars -- house the president is the link list of -- what you do things that he ordinarily what we've done because we didn't have shifted.
For him so we have to do -- think strategically.
Now remember this your short wouldn't be revisiting this in the next.
45 days sixty days so.
We need to look to the next battle and don't forget.
The couple weeks what we have yet you the debt the debt ceiling you know let's get past this and -- and you realize that there's a long term strategy.
We're not looking to to to lose the war by India.
Losing battles that not getting it.
I talked to Basil three Washington folks.
Go from reporters and they're -- senators hear those pretty good what they see.
Happening is instead of -- associated with.
The government shutdown on Monday instead.
They're gonna try to shift to delay.
We mandate for individuals.
And attach that to the debt ceiling now how would you see that.
Well I mean there's been talk about delaying that -- for quite some time in the president would himself would acknowledge that because of the complexity of the size of the bill.
There are a lot of things that we you know they don't know what the real impact is going to be like.
Given some of the provisions for the businesses that delayed until next year.
So I understand.
The the concern over the mandate but what I don't understand and I don't.
Think the American people haven't seen before is attaching it to another debt ceiling common conversation we're again we're being brought to the edge but nothing's really.
It's a certain appeal Brad to the fundamental unfairness.
Of allowing businesses.
To get -- -- I unions some 2000.
Unions and other supporters -- Democrats and the president letting them have some waivers even congress.
Doesn't have to abide by the law they -- they got a waiver as well that rankles a lot of American so this whole notion of delay instead of the funds seems to be more appealing.
It is an outfit that is a great argument to make even -- a debate.
On both the house the senate -- because the American people see.
It's fundamentally unfair that unions going to the White House should go on the present he thinks that a hundred million dollars shut it down our throats now they don't want -- congress doesn't want to.
The IRS commissioner under oath testified he doesn't want -- either yet -- The agency.
Enforcing obamacare passed for the president was Smart -- the wind out of -- sales.
Agreed to the individual delay like -- did to the corporations.
And you'll get -- debt ceiling increase and want to fight another day where Smart making this fight because the American people don't like the hypocrisy.
Saying it's okay for you but -- -- -- for.
From the -- -- things a catastrophe in terms of the computer programs the Wall Street Journal other big story and it was last Friday which has.
That in 36 states for 32 million Americans the computer programs don't work they can't calculate.
And -- you can't calculate the price any exchanges.
The whole system in it does -- I would think that maybe at some point in time.
This administration would welcome but the way so they can fix that alone.
Well the Wall Street Journal even just earlier today.
Said that the prices for the exchanges have come down are down significantly -- -- better than most people expected.
So they're going to be somebody varies from state stay committed that's very closely to -- but I think by and large particularly for that target demographic that the president wants those young adults and seems to be working there are some glitches and I think you're right about that.
About the computer programs and there's some -- some paperwork that small business owners and have to if allowed to make sure that their employees get off this is gonna take time but I think it's a worthwhile bill.
That we still need to flesh out what it's worth why we should.
You know there -- a couple of -- today including woman Linda Chavez that makes the argument you know want Republicans you're your strategy should actually be eradicated them.
-- -- -- -- -- -- And the further along because -- more people are gonna hate it hate it more than they already dislike it.
Because they're losing their coverage they're getting kicked off their plans and onto exchanges.
A lot of people are.
Seen her premiums skyrocket I mean -- -- sticker shock when they get it in the mail.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- And the argument is that the more it's implemented the closer you get to the mid term elections the more likelihood.
Is that Republicans take back in the west side.
We've got to use the bully pulpit.
Can tell the American people.
And trumpet what somebody's feeling in Virginia is the same was somebody's feeling California so keeping the pressure on keeping it in the news.
The American people is really the key for us to get -- message across they know what they're feeling but misery loves company.
And to understand that what people are -- California is exact same as Illinois and Florida are just got.
A premium notice in the mail and last year and it went up 27%.
You know the reason was.
They had to build reserves for obamacare because they didn't know whether this week has reached the threshold in my state of people coming -- -- they can cover the people who were coming off.
-- you know Frontline is -- doctor broke -- called me from Los Angeles and he just received.
Couple months ago his notice from his insurance carriers have 25 years.
That they were canceling it because it at.
Because of obamacare there there's pulling out of the inning hitting individual policy -- canceled his effective.
The 31 of -- he's gonna go search for one -- on the exchanges and so forth so.
Missing is beginning to snowballing and -- he was I've read about.
Bugs me the one thing that I will concede -- -- -- religiously reported about this is the concern that.
With these these these exchanges is that the coverage that a lot of folks will get through the exchange.
They're here network of providers will be extremely narrow so any time to go out of that network they're gonna end up paying a fairly hefty price to see you use this -- Now as a small business owner that -- several thousands of dollars a year for individual -- the -- IMac I am eagerly awaiting October 1 to what I want to see what those exchanges and looking like.
Yeah open in media that -- cancellation.
Experiment carefully studied.
But out -- but I would -- -- these are some things that are of real concern -- legitimate.
What again what I'd like to see is as the bill gets rolled out that there isn't just legislation to fix it just legislate them fixed as opposed -- delays.
Yeah speed Internet and they're pulling out of exchanges for example in New Jersey so now -- down to what three so much for competition and lowering prices will leave that for another day I'm.
Fred Lakeland and -- Michael good to see again.
