-- Yahoo! political reporter Chris moody he joins us from DC Chris good to see.
Great to be here thanks for having me.
Got -- surprised are you Chris it's Thursday now the government supposed to shut down on Monday and neither side is budging here.
I don't think we should ever be surprised with political brinksmanship they have shown time and time again that this is what they always do they try to use time on their side to buy their negotiating tactics to see -- get the upper hand at the very last minute.
But really this is just the opening act for the big fight which is going to be over the debt ceiling which will happen in just a couple of weeks here so I think we're seeing early signs of -- what we're gonna see in October.
-- and that is when Republicans really think they can push through things like delaying obamacare and other initiatives that they're trying to put forward.
As you say that the big deadline the next drop dead deadline is October 17 the increase in the debt ceiling or not.
And the the question -- you said the President Obama might not give on this thing well.
The Democrats say President Obama is not giving any concessions the Republicans say he's got to give something somebody's bluffing here who is.
Are gonna bet that Obama is bluffing they had did that today when they unveiled a list there's a laundry list of things that I wish list relive.
What they want out of the debt ceiling they've seen Obama buckle in the past they've pointed to history where big things have been done.
Based built around debt ceiling increase vote.
And they think they can do it again so.
Quite honestly they're gonna attempt to call his -- in the next few weeks.
And quite honestly you know the public look they want some cuts -- when you look at these polls Chris and the public saying.
Look you -- -- of these debt ceiling negotiations and we're both stubborn but we gotta have some cuts somewhere so the president might have to give a little bit.
He might but he has been so firm in the past few weeks he's really gonna have to eat his words and the Democrats have said as well.
I think they're banking on him not buckling him.
And buckling here but.
It really looks like the Republicans don't buy it there they're looking into the past they've seen him do it before and they're gonna charges hard they can't.
And of course the Democrats in the -- -- gonna do the same as well pushing back but the Democrats were very clear today that.
There are not going to buckle so just like we have brinksmanship going on Monday we're gonna have -- next month as well.
Yet for the next 1819 days and keep talking about this Chris moody from Yahoo! Chris good see you thank you thank you.
