Don't you love how each side thinks the other side is just being absolutely ridiculously stubborn on this.
Yeah I mean both sides that they're -- an -- and I think that we are headed for shut down Harry Reid today saying no chance they're -- change anything including the medical device stacks.
-- repealing it which which has bipartisan support but they're -- and not gonna change.
One bit of Obama -- part of this debate so.
That's where we're headed I mean Harry Reid and John -- they're not even talking to -- -- a that's a lot different than two years ago lonely almost had a government chipped up.
There was constant talking in the hours and days up to.
The possible shut -- of course it was averted this time I don't think we're gonna -- -- right.
And that's what I was I was gonna mention Bob because really they're not even talking there's no negotiation going on right now at all.
And so you've got -- you got the house Republican members that are kind of huddling right now they're gonna come up with some strategy when they come out what is the next strategy what's the next move on their part.
I think -- gonna send another version as Mike was saying just some other version back to the senate so they're playing this thing on game.
The senate it's going to be a non starter just like that the bill that they sent -- run Saturday night the senate has -- torpedoed.
In Democrats behind the scenes they are very very confident they're gonna win this -- PR battle.
But there's you know that you never know with this kind of thing -- the polls suggest that Republicans are on the losing side but.
But also member present Obama vowed to unite Washington and this is and he shut down on his watch.
Oh yeah and there's yet nobody's united on Capitol Hill right now Bob I mean do you do you think there is any -- you know Doug and Mitch McConnell somebody say well let's just keep the government open for maybe another week and then I did that.
That -- -- give us some time to kind of negotiate things out maybe that happens.
I'd you know I think it's there's a possibility but I don't think -- -- -- happens Democrats today.
In the senate kind of mocking that idea that it decisions have to be made they want to be.
And they are united on this they they don't think that a one week solution is gonna really break anything I the only thing that's gonna probably been the -- together.
Is -- for the market continues to to fall and it and somebody is blamed for this then.
That party's gonna have to give in like the Republicans did in -- in the mid 1990s.
What I -- most people are blaming the Republicans here -- the Republicans look they go back to their districts and they're comfortable they're safe with their constituents so.
You know they're doing the job they believe they were sent out to do.
Yeah not that I think dissect down -- I mean -- average sat down usually late last about two or three days.
This could go on for for quite some time and then we of course have the debt ceiling so.
Republicans from the get go wanted to negotiate one deal both on.
Government funding and the debt ceiling and and they may get their wish but it's going to be -- and have some rocky times for both parties in the days ahead.
Save more you know getting rid of the individual mandate for a year pushing this thing back is there something in this that the Republicans might take away is a victory is there anything you can see here Bob -- they say okay we won.
-- -- past this but we won this little bit this little -- of the war.
I think there -- two possibilities.
That Democrats are not offering now but maybe eventually they will.
Is a medical device tax and I can delay a -- and it's just not gonna happen.
And possibly that the that the panel that's its reimbursement rates and the so called Republicans have dubbed it the death panel there's a lot of bipartisan opposition to that.
So maybe that -- part of the discussion.
But right now the sides -- so far apart.
It's really hard to see any deal at this point.
Yeah there is a huge gap up there on the hill Bob Cusack managing editor of -- Bob good to see you thank you.
