This is on the Honda proxies dot com hello everybody I'm Jonathan Hunt he told the breaking bad finale was good -- -- too easy -- finale of all non.
-- now all we haven't fully nude -- three.
All of the government shut down we're going to be joined by the Republican senator John Barrasso senator from what Wyoming of -- -- will be joining us.
In a few minutes to discuss walk on there is going along with.
In Washington I was just told me KT McFarland issues that would have kids used doggie like that she from in the rooms they don't come unless one of you was bleeding profusely.
Until you've sold it'd all act perhaps that's what we should do with the -- put them all in one room leave the -- -- all we don't want to hear from them.
Until -- so -- apple we will hear from senator Barrasso in a few minutes -- I wanna stop with foreign news and that KT McFarland.
Who is -- brilliant national security analyst as you well know.
-- you've just come back from pretty extraordinary few days very quick.
-- and fascinating.
Trip to Egypt where I know many people have sat downing.
Would with the leadership.
I mean this is the first allegation was certainly western allegations are gonna sit down.
But the Egyptian leaders have.
What we've all -- -- -- attention sort of taken away because of because of domestic issues but also because -- Syria and Iran but Egypt remains.
You know the linchpin hasn't -- So that's the big story in at least pay and we got a long it's because the egyptians just goes -- -- -- her ration.
And the egyptians.
Two years ago mayor of spring through -- -- right the president and then a year after that a year ago.
They have elections and they elected a guy Mohammed -- it was three.
Muslim Brotherhood leader but they didn't have a constitution they've just elected and then he wrote -- constitution.
But they wrote a constitution excluding other people from governing roles and for the last year homage Marcy is gone.
One by one dismantling all the balance of democracy and silence in the press firing the courts.
Big -- religious persecution certainly Christians and so in June the Egyptian people rose up and it is -- amazing story.
They have the equivalent of a hundred it was -- in America it would have been a 109 people went to -- things they had 2039 people went to the streets three times.
And they said we want this guy either too reform or get rid of them and so later rid -- -- and what happened.
-- the United States the media.
The Republicans even people like Senator McCain as well as the White House -- us military can't cut up and it's terrible when in fact.
It was the entire Egyptian nation rising -- to say the administration didn't cut off yes -- did.
They said they -- they wouldn't technically call it at Ku right but when I talk to their major general in the Egyptian army.
There is responsible for receiving American military assistance he said.
They have effectively cut it off they have they've made some spare -- arrive that they have been slow walked into the.
-- and a million dollars a year there -- -- -- -- -- that happening.
Right so where are we now in Egypt because you look at this and as you say it's it's a -- and says so those Egypt so -- the rest of the Middle East.
What I mean it seems chaotic from the outside you've now been inside -- told to -- leadership where I would.
They have a roadmap and they have stuck to the schedule.
They've created a committee of fifteen representing all elements of the Egyptian society or religious groups women and minorities.
Labor unions businessmen students and -- writing a new constitution there.
Well on their way we've read and we -- -- Hummer were so who is the guy who is the chairman of that committee they're on schedule I planned to have it within several weeks.
They will have a referendum and national nationwide referendum on the new constitution.
By the end of the year and that early next year they will have first parliamentary elections and then presidential elections didn't have any country music are very optimistic.
And you know we know what all across the -- we met with student activists would.
The students who had created this petition movement in June which turning people -- that this is a 180 million people.
Let me be -- -- literate so it's probably the majority in the now that's the student group on the guy with the -- next to me.
He was the guy who.
Organized how -- that it was called it's called and that's the movement of firsts students but then other people -- the society joined that they got a petition.
Several days later June 30 they got 22 million people in the streets peacefully.
To protest the Egyptian military stepped and to prevent a civil war.
And within a few days.
Created an interim government with the civilian government invented the head of the Supreme Court Chief Justice.
-- running in the country so they've got one committee writing the constitution.
They've got civilian government they've got the military that has gone into the Sinai Peninsula to clean -- the al-Qaeda.
Centers that have been set up on the Sinai Peninsula I mean come optimistic.
Your dog you -- confident that the military is going ace is saying yes to civilian government will continues to say yes I am gonna.
I -- you know this is it immediately -- -- general LLC for two hours and nobody -- wouldn't care -- and sat in a closer than you and I are now he does -- want.
How they want to save the -- -- generals facing that they are generals are saying hey -- setting our job is to protect the Egyptian people and no I don't think there's this isn't military coup they don't want I don't wanna governing shipped.
To -- they want to make sure that Egypt is safe and secure and well -- but the military Egypt has never wanted to run things.
You talk little about it every.
Egyptian society being represented.
-- constitution there is written except.
The Muslim brother.
You know we.
Think of the Muslim Brotherhood as a political party like it's the Democrats that the Tea -- it's the Republicans it's not and the egyptians I think that they think of it is the forward base of al-Qaeda.
You and what the Muslim Brotherhood did in the year in power.
They got rid of the technical leaders -- have a technocrats to make the country run and they put put.
Muslim Brotherhood cronies and they -- out how to set up -- and establish bases on the Sinai Peninsula and wouldn't let the military go after them.
They suppress the media and women and the -- I talked to the man -- for Jonathan Hunt.
Egypt and I -- -- -- guy has a leading talk show when he said.
Within -- for the Muslim Brotherhood how he was given a list of several hundred people that we're no longer allowed -- -- and then give -- of people he had to enter here.
We met with a woman has the lead gaming news anchor she's sad.
That she because she was critical she received death threats to children.
She said that there were women reporters.
TV reporters for reporters.
Who weren't radio people who women who -- fired just because they were women.
We met with the Christian the Coptic Christian -- represents about 1012% of the population.
So maybe 109 people he said that they're they're 62 churches haven't been attacked.
Looted and burned to the ground but -- whole city for the panel -- Having said all of that and and Mohamed Morsi.
Was elected in an election which may have had some dubious elements -- it but it was an election out.
They -- for -- -- men's so the Muslim Brotherhood and lots of -- then among the Egyptian people to have their candidate elected correct so they can you just say he suddenly opt for Europe know you guys can't take pot in the in the.
Process whatsoever here's what they did which is to me that telling example.
So more Singh was elected then they wrote a constitution which favored the Muslim Brotherhood at the expense of others what did they not -- in the constitution.
Any process of impeachment.
So they like the Muslim Brotherhood and and Gaza and Hamas and Gaza.
They plan to have one man one vote one time and the people I talked to from.
The business community this student community the military current and former government leaders religious leaders they said if they waited three warriors there would have been no opposition interest and.
Arcadia we semi and I want to talk to about Iran and Syria but -- We also have to get to the government shut down and we have senator John Barrasso.
Our Republican of Wyoming -- waiting for us and we don't keep senators waiting around here on the -- -- -- senator good to see you thank you debate beyond that thank thanks so much for having me today all right well that why has meeting went well last night.
-- makes you wonder why they even had the meeting it didn't it sound like a decision to negotiate to not negotiate.
Didn't seem that much was even planned by the president and he really hasn't shown very much leadership at all in in the run up to this as well as during that.
They shut down so you can take a look at what's happening out there and you know many people think boy this is making it even more painful than it needed to be.
I just want to play a quick the clip of President Obama talking about this I'm putting.
The blame of ballet at fairly and squarely on your shoulders as Republicans -- the president.
They're -- -- that the services they depend will be disrupted -- And the worst part is this time it's not because of a once in a lifetime recession.
This isn't happening because of some.
Because of a reckless Republican shut down in Washington.
A reckless Republicans shot -- senate and -- wooded area.
That a lot of people around the country according to the polls at least would agree with the president's.
Woods from this morning.
Well people make their own decisions I think that the president and the Democrats are being very.
On reasonable under appearing on reasonable especially in the things that you see the way that.
They brought out barriers to close off the World War II memorial from individuals who our heroes of that war this is an -- -- Marble.
Monument and to think that that has to have barriers surrounding it because the government's closed down there.
Places the National Park Service today have no employees no funding and they say that's close down.
You know in my home state of Wyoming what we've seen.
Under I believe it's direction.
Has put barriers.
On places where people just turn out from -- off the road.
To take pictures there's no one else there it's just fill a spot in the road in the putting barriers there to prevent the public from taking pictures.
It just seems like.
Punishment of the public in an effort to make a political point but that -- and the but the point.
They make verbally at least if not politically.
Is that this would not be happening sent into.
If there wasn't this attempt by Republicans.
Pieces of legislation.
Regarding Obama caddie Affordable Care Act I totally separate issue to a continuing resolution wind all.
Just did offer a clean continuing resolution to fund the government.
And deal -- Obama can't if you hated so much in a separate piece of legislation that.
Does seem to make some sense.
Well two things one is that resolution has passed the senate -- I voted against it.
But it's now up to the house to determine what they want to do.
But I think all the we're looking for is basic fairness the president has going around and outside the law of the Obama health care law he's granted special.
Two businesses saying that the individual that the employer mandate they can delay that for a year he's provided the president is also provided special exemptions.
For members of congress for the senate the house and -- so why shouldn't all Americans have to live under this including.
The White House staff members of the house members of the senate is just a matter of basic fairness let's give.
A one year extension of the mandate.
Is that this as the president has given to businesses as I was at a health fair and level Wyoming last weekend and -- why -- the bosses get a break but not the workers.
Why is it that the bosses don't have to.
Comply with the law with the president decided unilaterally.
-- we're looking for is basic fairness here -- senator one on one last question is the Tea Party wing of the Republican Party running the body right now.
-- -- Americans and Republicans are united.
In their opposition.
To the president's health care law which is bad for patients it's bad for the nurses and doctors -- take care those patients and all of us agree it's terrible for taxpayers.
The president's goal for health reform was one that people agreed on but we were looking for.
For so people get the care they need.
From a doctor they choose -- lower cost and those promises have been broken and now we see with the exchanges.
It's it's really a matter of by.
Everywhere all right senator John Barrasso Republican from the great state of Wyoming thank you very much indeed -- great to see senator.
Thanks for having me all right KT let's go back to KT until that Iran and Syria defensible.
As as I mentioned at the top of the -- he said what.
When your kids -- you'd like we've seen a lot of arguing on Capitol Hill he'd shut them in a room -- and command and -- you bleeding profusely -- that.
-- and we should just do that was.
I mean about I think it makes a lot of -- -- and underground take -- all the sharp objects.
Blocking men around you may be -- bathroom privileges and say work it out at a game.
Either work it out let me know when you've worked it out we got a deal or when somebody is is so profusely bleeding we got to go to the emergency room I want to hear about it.
-- -- -- -- All right -- and -- his prescription at daily work this that might -- -- are proud of these guys.
All right I'm talking of working things -- would just getting a bulletin crossing lines now from the United Nations.
Saying that those international chemical -- the weapons inspectors report quote encouraging.
Towards eliminating Syria's chemical arms program is this -- what do you think -- -- You know there's there's an all Scottish expression there's many a slip sports -- -- -- you and so there's a lot it's got to happen the weapons -- -- whiskey drinking NSF.
-- -- Well there's not have to happening and a lot of the the biggest problem is going to be the center of the chemical weapons -- contested war zones.
And at this point the rebels have nothing left to lose because if this chemical weapons deal works what it does is guarantee its.
In power moralists and definitely in southern rebels are gonna Trotter you know sabotage -- found -- -- -- What's the end result -- as well.
You know be great if we can get chemical weapons removed.
A -- I have -- -- and of this terrible position and I'm going -- and her starting a war that.
The American public and one in the military -- we could succeed him.
So it's good that we're not gonna do that that the problem or -- -- says that the Russians are now deciding things and to meet the precedent that's the most upsetting.
Is that when Obama did this deal which he had to do was a lifeline the Russians -- him.
That part of the deal the terms of the deal are that the United States has.
Has forced warrant the use of force in less United Nations goes along with it.
As an American I don't like that sovereignty issue where somebody else is gonna decide whether American military can be used -- I don't and we should use it.
But I don't like the fact that we don't have the ability -- From what the the idea obviously there are a lot of people who -- -- who would agree with you if we get rid of chemical weapons out of Syria.
That is a major step forward or maybe keeps deciding how for for law even longer.
But getting the chemical weapons that is a major step forward -- -- -- -- -- would argue that President Obama stumbled into this policy.
But equally he could argue.
That the application all of the -- threat of military action along with -- diplomacy on the other side.
Where is the process that will have brought this -- back.
Could he argue that this was the grand strategy -- Our last night and nobody believes that when I mean but if you propaganda your -- that I should give us I'm gonna shoot me as other Russians have don't shoot.
OK so maybe that's because you had a deliberate strategy at Africa's -- The fact of the matter now is that the Russians are going to be the predominant -- and at least now the restaurant maybe that's bad -- for the last forty years presence about political earnings.
Have to have made a lot of effort to make sure that the United States was.
This major power of the countries in the region look to it's now going to be the Russians so what does that mean in practical terms.
Well I mean said that oil for example.
If Russia is allied with the countries in the region and Russia's in a position.
To between Russia and they come and they are producing countries in the region might be in a position to have our number -- it affects United States.
I think that the end result -- -- looking down the road is that the United States now.
Because it's no longer the dominant outside power in the Middle East is going to have to develop our own energy resources eat because we will no longer.
BMW I would say that's and I think -- to get to Miami -- we -- in -- -- picked by Obama's Smart not take advantage about -- and have the United States be energy independent within a couple of years on the energy exporters superpower.
Within the decade.
Let's deal with -- another of the great foreign policy.
Conundrum is in the next minute and a half that we have we -- -- -- -- -- Iran.
-- -- Difference of tone.
From the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week very very tough on Iran we're prepared to go it alone -- prepared to act if we.
Feel we need to -- that basically consultant and anybody else.
And that President Obama on the other hand whether seem to be authority of relations.
Withdrew -- -- is going on I was current.
I was a victim that victim but I went with -- group -- counselor for relations members to see president.
We're hunting when he was in New York last week and to -- it looks like -- here's the deal we're gonna give up.
-- the end of the deal we're starting this negotiation but where it ends up as it has faces gonna give up sanctions were gonna lift the sanctions which the arranged desperately need.
And it rains are gonna get -- the question is how close -- where are they going to be at that.
Nuclear cycle before they -- -- Barack and I get nukes in the sense of having a -- on the shelf that they're gonna use that they could get to the point.
Where they have all the ingredients and they would be three months six months three weeks.
Away from being a nuclear weapons power and in the Middle East that'll be more or less the same thing -- -- -- -- -- a -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- You know diplomacy in the way it works better than anybody I just wonder your view on this I was wandering through the streets of New York today.
As I tend to do for I -- or something no it wasn't no I was on my way here honestly.
And 11 AM but it it just struck me that.
There's a lot of -- -- -- prime minister Netanyahu and President Obama being on completely different pages here.
Is there any chance the way the diplomacy works that they've actually consulted on this that playing a good call.
Bad call kind of role it would be great but they're not -- -- not they're not doing that.
I think -- -- Netanyahu listeners reacting to what he sees as a as an agreement between the United States and Iran.
To basically let Iran become a nuclear weapons stating he's looking at -- and saying where's my opening if America wants happen happen has happened I think the problem is that -- -- sit around a negotiating.
That window for Israel acting militarily has now close.
It's all right Kate humans on a national security contribute -- -- For fox it's been great having you here on the humble all these years I loved it and we -- candidates this year we will continue to work together on charm I.
I just didn't want this or is it near record -- -- you'll -- funny meeting at.
-- -- -- -- greatest -- thank you so much.
All right let's get back to the government shut down and now another off favorite people Bob could -- managing editor of the hill it's an all star lineup this is better than the breaking bad -- much spent -- well -- good did have a good to see you sir.
A lot going on oh my word as I said to US senate Barrasso just a couple of minutes ago that meeting of the why -- went apple cool what was the point.
Yeah I know you gotta wonder what the point was maybe it was just an -- -- the president hadn't called for a meeting.
I certainly recently on these issues so they had a meeting it went on longer than expected but everyone coming out of a meeting if you believe them they said.
Unproductive and I and I do think you know I was in the discussion before about -- the meeting was characterized.
Cordial but -- productive unproductive they need -- at a meeting that is stressful and productive.
If and basically I agree they have to get in a room and just hash it out one way -- the other.
Now with the debt limit I don't think that's gonna happen any time soon because that deadline is now October 17 the government is shattered.
And both Democrats and Republicans I'm talking -- capital are fine -- -- a minute they say of course publicly don't want this shut down -- law but.
They think that one deal is now better than two Democrats used to say they'd rather have two separate deals now they're fine with one big deal can they ever get -- -- -- that's a question.
Yeah -- very big question that ain't it does seem -- that they get the Republicans are taking.
I'll shouldering most of the blame for this.
In the public view at the moment do you see that continuing the way this is playing out.
In all likelihood that it probably does continues that way I I think that Republicans -- playing a very difficult and in some ways I think the playing well because there -- at least they're looking very busy they're passing a flurry of bills and I -- the Democrats are saying -- and and yesterday.
A bit of a pivot from Democrats is that the White House called for the meeting Harry Reid offered.
Some type both kind of olive branch to speaker Boehner that he would work on tax reform it really wasn't -- substantive offer but it was it it was moving away from -- Kind of know we're not going to do anything until you pass a clean government funding bill so I think Democrats there it -- side it may be the no negotiation thing wasn't quite working.
And they want to say all right what -- willing to talk about but.
But overall Republicans.
-- -- -- it there down matters at top spies guys Tea Party guys he's got the centrist Republicans like Peter King.
Who are -- saying that they're gonna -- together with about point Republicans and vote down one of these bills is coming to the house floor in the coming days or maybe next week.
They wanted to and right now but well whether they'll be able to band together to get enough votes to earth to form and a partnership with Democrats remains to be seen but but speaker main -- A lot of Republicans say what's the end game how to we get out of this and and we don't have a lot of answers on yet it does is tired.
Do you see any way.
I speak -- -- comes out of this looking anything -- then somebody.
Who in the woods of a lot of Democrats was held hostage.
By the Tea Party wing -- -- of his.
I think -- been a tough positions before Jonathan but not like this and there was that government -- possibility in 2011.
The budget control act the debt ceiling fight -- -- -- eleven.
Was very intense but Boehner claimed he got 90% of what he wanted he did pretty well in those two negotiations more recently it's been tough -- speaker Boehner the fiscal cliff with a complete debacle.
He tried to move a bill.
There was a rebellion couldn't get that done.
This he actually want to go and a different way and that Ted Cruz house Republicans who -- what kind of while working with that cruise almost every day it seems.
Said no we don't like that -- -- -- -- -- to take his strategy so this is the defining moment of speaker Boehner career mom and it could get ugly.
While -- well it's already got ugly and I think in many ways -- -- what did you know the language that way -- is well.
Comment has been quite extradited to sort of play one clip from a congressman George Miller Democrat of California.
Listen to this and then we'll talk about it.
Did you think about the parks when you vote to cut to shut down the government.
Did you think about the impacts.
The gentleman from Montana yesterday came to the floor and said it's hurting the local economy the gentleman from California -- has said that the crowds around Yosemite.
-- -- thinking about that when he voter gradually to shut down the government.
He was prepared to sacrifice the local economy.
He was prepared to sacrifice the towns around Yosemite when he was on -- Jihad against Americans benefit getting access to healthcare.
I'd G hot against American citizens -- citizens getting access to health care -- -- and I mean we shouldn't pretend that these strong language has only been on the pop.
All of Democrats it's on both sides but really I mean this is this strikes me as -- as lower than low ball when you when we -- getting them back kind of language.
Yeah and -- that president's top advisors also cut compared it to to terrorism and and I watch that exchange yesterday and that.
The house Republican on the floor Mike Simpson who was managing -- debate.
Almost called said.
He should call for those words to be stricken from the record and that's something that goes on in the house.
But he was immediately offended by it and we've seen these compassion that you -- been on both sides companion to the American revolution.
9/11 the rhetoric is an all time high.
But the tensions are also an all time high so.
But it but certainly I think a lot of Democrats Republicans are shaking their heads at some of their colleagues.
Who are using this to -- doesn't really help the debate.
-- -- -- -- does seem that everybody is playing politics with this -- and I guess that's I mean it's it's plainly -- -- That this is is -- -- back 2014.
And even maybe 2016.
As it is about what happens to funding the government this month next month -- or -- at the stopped -- -- fourteen.
Yet it's always funny politics what -- one side says well the other side's claim politics have a and then that site is playing politics there they're pointing the finger.
And I we've seen that from both sides and and honestly -- the reason is is that these guys have not been able to.
To strip strike a deal is because the last election -- Democrats did well pres Obama won a second term.
Democrats picked up seats but it was as semi status quo election I mean.
We still have carried a majority leader we still have Boehner as a speaker was to have Obama as a president.
And their relationships.
Have been severely strained over the last couple years Reid and Boehner did not get along like these -- actually at a good working relationship.
That has soured so.
Oh I don't know how this play ends I mean this is this is going to be it's going to be very -- and I also think Jonathan that October 17 deadline while both parties want to avoid.
Debt fiasco I think they can go beyond that if you go to eighteenth nineteenth and twentieth and I think the stock market -- that really starts to get.
Consistently bad that'll move members to get -- -- the end that it didn't do they have that.
Very firmly in the forefront of their minds ball right now on the hill I mean you know these people as well as anybody I think really thinking about that.
They do you think about that a lot actually in 2008 when they had the first -- bill the first bailout and it failed on the house floor.
And -- the stock market tumble nearly 800 points since that time.
They've never had a big.
Bill that's gone to the house or senate floors while the markets are open.
They have consistently said okay we'll let's have that vote.
After the markets closed so they are thinking about that what they're thinking about 401 case because so many people.
Lost so much money 2008 in their in their retirement.
They do think about that but at the same time.
They are they are dug in right now and I think it would have to be a huge drop to get this decides to get it -- -- so far apart right.
All right -- ball before I let you go the that the most important question on my mind is from the man who knows everything in DC is on my Redskins gonna come back from the bye week about a team.
I think so I think they showed signs demean their season was on the brink and then we're down against the raiders.
I tell you know the next W -- as -- of their schedule next couple games are key.
Because after that there's -- it's really tough to the next games against Dallas I think that's almost a must win enough for the Redskins.
Yeah I think you're absolutely right Bob Cusack managing editor of the hill it has been a pleasure and an education -- you almost weekly the past three years -- I will and everybody will see you across all the Fox News platforms of colts.
I've -- -- -- -- all right thanks so much Bob Cusack managing editor of the hill and check -- the hill dot com how we gonna take quick break here and we will be back.
With some budget tips for those thousands upon thousands.
Of followed government workers had -- they get through this it's it's tough for anybody you suddenly told to go home you know getting a full -- or even any pay in some cases.
Tough times how -- they get through it will come back -- that.
Welcome back to on the -- of -- -- they'll come -- Jonathan -- time of the dating biased -- just didn't duck on the senior Washington.
Correspondent -- told radio news service joining us for as always from DC.
Good to see it just didn't.
And I I guess -- to -- that question of the day today it minds of the -- fashion is how the media is dealing.
-- this ongoing government shut down possible shut down wanna -- wanna call it.
Yeah I know it's very interesting and one of the major highlights of this is how they have responded to Harry Reid's.
Comments yesterday regarding cancer research for young children.
You know I don't to tell you Jonathan that the media is absolutely obsessed with gaffes they can ruin careers in the case of Trent Lott or -- -- And yesterday they sort of gave him a slide.
He of course suggested.
Why -- asking.
You know why he would want to fund cancer research that was something that was taken a little bit out of context.
But we do know that the media is awfully fond of doing that for Republicans.
And had -- been someone like speaker Boehner or Ted -- or whatnot I can guarantee that that would have dominated the entire news cycle for today.
I've really you think it was that much of an omission on the -- all of many in the media.
I do I mean this is a grotesquely.
-- statement to make this was something that was you know.
Very inappropriate I'm sure he regretted saying it almost immediately and you know we -- the media try to bend over backwards to try to.
Focus on gaffes when it.
Is somebody who is more controversial and as somebody who is typically more conservative you know we saw the binders full of women remarks and I used countless times to paint Romney as sexist.
And I think that this could very easily been used to -- -- as someone who is heartless if the media had.
It out for read like they certainly have had it out for a lot of conservatives.
And although on the have been sort of broad a question Justin ever of had the media is looking.
The shot down.
Is there a sense in which they have do you -- -- two of followed the public lead in the public lead appears to be according to.
All the polls right now that they blame Republicans so if there appears to be more blame.
On the editorial pages.
For Republicans the Democrats is that a fair reflection of the way the country's thinking.
It is a fair reflection and in many senses it is a accurate assessment of the situation and how it's moving forward whether or not it's because the media essentially started.
Out by casting Republicans as the bad guys in this that's an argument that a lot of conservatives have been making it looks like you know there's never really any effort to try to paint this.
As you know taking to -- to -- and two sides.
Sort of messing up and leading to a massive shut down.
But at the end of the day it doesn't look like the media is very clearly trying to cast this as the GOP shut down has allowed Democrats have been trying to pounce on.
There's Justin this is somebody who observes these things off on a daily basis in the way these things work.
What do you make all of that White House meeting last night where we had Pelosi Reid McConnell and -- All at the white -- with the president apparently they went into the -- on their own no stops involved.
And it appeared to be at -- all -- virtually pointless meeting at what was your take on it.
I mean it's optics right now nobody really looks good in this fight.
Democrats I know we're poised to try to be -- heroes in this situation but it's not going as well as they would liked.
You know there were plenty of things have been enough for C such is the World War II veterans movement that we're now seeing that is really making them look sort of like the bad guys and quite a few people's eyes.
So I think this is an attempt to save face I don't think -- is really ever believe that they were gonna sit down and -- -- -- by moment.
But at the end of the day this is DC and.
Yes app staff never truer words spoken Justin dot com senior Washington correspondent with told radio news service great to told -- is always Justin thank you very much Jonathan.
All right to -- promised before the break that we would again some budget tips -- furloughed workers federal government work is not having the best time of it I want these.
In recent years so how they handled this and the pay -- -- many of them have experience Katherine Basilan.
Is features editor with foxbusiness.com.
She joins us from our DC bureau that good to -- -- Catherine so.
I mean -- tough times for these given that there there is a very you know we talk about the monuments and everything but there's a very human element.
To people just not getting right now it's and it's typical.
It's absolutely more than 800000 workers have been sent home without pay and you know this is another kind of double whammy for -- federal workers.
A lot of them haven't had -- increases -- costs of living increases since 2010.
Unless they've had a promotion they've seen their wages kind of hold steady and what's more is that a lot of -- warns that next year.
-- how -- insurance premiums are gonna go up about 4%.
So now you know they're facing these added costs and right now they have this unexpected.
-- Time and they don't have -- -- so they really need to be careful clean expression since we don't know how long this is going on.
-- some legislative aides are saying you know this could go two weeks or longer so they really need to be careful with what they do now to avoid getting into a lot of stats.
All right so.
All what are some of the some of the tips that you would offered to those workers who are struggling.
The first thing you need to do is start a budget and everybody says that you should have that we -- that rainy day -- -- cover an emergency like this.
But every expert I talked to -- only about 10% of consumers actually do this.
Does he need to sit down and be honest -- their style look at the last two months of your credit card bills and also go -- any receipts.
And find areas where you you know can cut back out for a lot of people that's going to be an entertainment -- dining out area.
But be honest here you know if you're how to gym membership -- -- -- him up and say.
Can -- put it on hold me until I get that situated look at magazine subscriptions there's a lot of areas and people's budgets that they're spending nominated and I'm really -- at the moment.
You have to cut back there and -- can take a close look.
And you we also have to be out of open with your family start talking about the situation especially if it is the single income family and it was a federal worker.
You set expectations -- you know for a little while we're just too little bit more -- mean you know more careful with what we're spending.
And get everybody on board so they now kind of what how to move forward and -- what the budget Allah quite yet.
And you -- to read these as tips of followed work is but they do seem to be basic like tips that.
All of us could could take off.
Absolutely you know experts say the lane a big purchase right now if you don't have an income trying to put -- -- he even if you need -- washing machine.
-- put it off that you're not put it on the credit card because anything they put on the credit -- you're gonna have to pay back thank you can't pay it back -- you're gonna end up paying even more on the high interest rates.
Billion delaying big -- says -- -- -- -- is a good -- to have to.
An -- can't talk to your creditors as -- to a lot of them saying now is this is say yes I think he didn't have control over.
How Lotta people are actually paying for insurance that would cover them in situations like this -- -- take advantage especially if your pain for the insurance on your credit card.
All right Catherine -- who is a features editor with Fox Business don't -- joining us from DC.
I Catherine thank you and anybody who wants to take long and close a look at -- friend's advice on budgeting.
Could do so act foxbusiness.com.
There is the article up on the screen right now Catherine thank you very much.
-- take another quick break here act on the hunt will be back.
To talk of adding new California lol which is -- -- NRA.
Very very mad indeed gun control.
-- when we come back.
Welcome back to on the -- foxnews.com.
A lot of view very very fired up indeed about the ongoing.
Government -- writing into us hey Gary Ferris says while we still hung up.
On these -- continuing resolutions they need to pass a budget and stick to it like the rest of us.
Much is Catherine vessel was giving his all ideas for doing -- Gilligan says we the people will have to take off from looking go to Washington.
And make them realize that we I'm not kidding and that if this matter is not made right then we will remove those who oppose our civil liberties of freedom of choice.
And free will lady Griffin says I've not had a raise since 2006.
And my health insurance is gone up 50% forgive me if I do not feel sorry for them having to join us down here.
In the -- and bog -- this is an interest in what says I'm not an American.
But I find it fascinating to see how the American people are acting the same as the people in that government.
Just read all the comments on the web sites people blaming each other -- blindly spitting out lies or insults to make a point keep on destroying the greatest nation in the world.
From the inside.
-- -- points from all living we always enjoy reading them so keep them coming please.
Okay there is a new lol that is being costs by lawmakers in the state of California.
That would back in the future sale of most types of semiautomatic rifles.
That except those detachable magazines the kind of have been used in many of the mass shootings we've seen.
Over the past few years governor Jerry Brown -- has indicated that he will sign that the NRA.
-- doesn't like that idea and not surprisingly the NRA said and this is a quote from the NRA.
Our right to keep and bear arms.
Has never been -- seriously threatening California as it is today -- -- years of it incrementally adopting gun control measures.
This year the legislature decided to propose new rules adopting everything on the gun ban that lobbies.
Wish list -- on the NRA says it's going to sue the state.
If but governor Jerry Brown does indeed.
Sign that bill so what does that all mean legally I'm joined here in the studio by -- -- -- -- did I get that right you got it back trial attorney and director of advocacy.
At the pace law school good to see -- and from our Atlanta bureau.
Asked the panic she was a criminal defense attorney nice to see US -- so well -- we -- -- -- this festival.
Can this lol be in -- lost and if they ask if it is.
What what -- -- the NRA have of winning illegal back.
-- -- -- let me just start by saying every single time anybody tries to pass a bill.
Limiting this Second Amendment according -- NRA the NRA always says it's the worst thing that could ever happen.
So you know it's almost like the way you cried wolf insane enough times and it doesn't mean anything anymore it to people that California.
Population has basically said -- their legislators we want some more type of gun control and so this is what their legislators are responding -- And so of course scenery is going to say -- I don't think anybody expects and not to say it.
So that it will go through the courts and the judges will make rulings and maybe it'll be something that the Supreme Court actually -- site.
It's just the beginning of this and and I don't know why anybody would be surprised -- the -- -- it would actually see it enough but really issue.
I'm not really surprise of the NRA's from the civil what's what is really surprising in this particular instance.
Is that at least half of the rifles that are currently in California are going to be outlawed by this new band and what it's done is that anywhere iPhone that has -- -- magazine.
Or one that she has a fix magazine of ten.
Ten rounds or more is going is going to be -- and the NRA's -- That they're circumventing these Second Amendment basically if you keep you keep including more more weapons in the assault then.
Category you're going to be putting us the right in a position where it's -- -- has no effect -- -- is not fact quite that.
Eight -- it is just -- chipping away at the Second Amendment and DN the NRA obviously feels that it's got to stop somewhere and this is -- -- the place to draw the line.
I'll be NRA says at about everything -- you know I guess they obviously they DC -- as a slippery slope -- There has to be some regulation no.
Lot is it's totally absolutely so there are exceptions the First Amendment has exceptions kid there's no.
Our particular -- Objection to having some restriction.
On the Second Amendment -- we haven't out we don't allow mentally ill people -- have normally don't allow people with connections for domestic violence -- have and so this is just another one.
Of votes this is restricting the type of weapon that is included.
Does this Louis -- and up.
What I mean -- does it end up legally speaking this is it's a State's rights issue.
So it's not gonna go to the Supreme Court ultimately this kind of depends on how -- -- the -- -- depends are they bring in the second -- they were -- a second man and get settled out of court jurisdiction they're gonna bring in of the federal court and I think that would probably be.
The best place for them to bring it up.
-- history shows us in this case that the statistics behind this change in the law.
Are really don't support the change in the -- and that's really why.
The NRA is using this is a platform.
-- kind of chip away -- what's been happening nationwide which is more.
And more limitations on weapons used as to where where do you see the whole gun control debate going from a legal point of view.
I I agreement -- I think this is going to end up if they go to federal court I think they will let me then this might end up in the Supreme Court.
It's not that that's probably where it will and got some seven judge will block a lot manual or allow melodic of power in the enforce an annual just can't keep getting -- Through the federal courts until it hits in court assuming the Supreme Court wants took center section ever.
-- that's an interesting point -- what would you view of that -- supreme -- likely to accept this kind of case I think so I think that this case I think this is this is a good test case.
And at dinner -- pushes the issue and they may have the believe that they have the goods to push the issue on this case.
They may be it may be the -- case for them all right now -- pursue a trial attorney and director -- advocacy -- the -- law school.
And as to punish criminal defense attorney joining us from Atlanta thank you both very much interest in debate and one -- we'll come back to again and again until thanks -- All right we're gonna take quick break care act on the -- we'll get me back.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- In the studio here with some tasty things I hope I'm industrial debunks the myths.
About olive oil for you as you know -- -- background is in Mediterranean cooking.
It's going to be fascinating.
Before that we are hoping to be joined vice via Skype.
Up from a survived all of the Lord's Resistance Army -- you remember.

That focus seems have shifted -- -- we forgotten about that that the victims of never forgotten what happened today and we hope to be joined by one of them.
Via Skype just a couple of minutes will be right back.
Welcome back to on the -- I'm Jonathan -- you'll remember a couple of years ago there was a lot of focus here -- -- US and around the world.
On the search for that we Ugandan warlord Joseph -- -- coney the lead all of the Lord's Resistance Army.
A group of thugs who did -- unspeakable.
Two thousands upon thousands.
Of men women and children.
As they continued their courage in.
Uganda we joined now by somebody who survived -- that purge.
OTT -- -- known two friends and us as David joining us via Skype.
That David and tell me first of all your experience of the Lord's Resistance Army what they did to your family.
Hello my it is I think -- so much done and Mike didn't.
That they believe.
My community and it.

They think your father was beaten to death while you want David.
Now did -- ongoing.
Search for Joseph -- the leader of the Lord's Resistance Army.
The world's focus has gone -- in different directions.
What would you say.
To those of us who it.
Have in a sense forgotten what these people did to families like -- laws and are not keeping the focus on this.
Well or other -- he's he -- What has been going on all the but 27.
Years they've -- thing that they be you and.
Look affiliate there being that trade and the other -- -- that that it is not just as always it's -- see what's going on.
I thought that it did it and so people issued.
And that's why.
I -- -- the good.
I know I feel that they've upped the -- -- tomorrow -- children.
That they do -- did.
So -- -- would you like the world community to do to help.
They right now what I want to do it communities and on it I'm right now I'm not saying that you.
And and right now I am a part of it is -- children we -- hitting.
It is fine and -- -- and I want -- or was it Andy the deal that we've seen is what it.
And in doing this week out -- and -- now what because.
You know Atlanta is too many people so why is you know and that -- because.
Right now what -- it was -- is doing in congress now we've got these aggregate hours.
That sent out method that exit is through.
So -- pony -- that it's just like me.
Unknown depths -- -- The will be that is nothing back home that sending them back -- we and is listed as good at them that -- this.
Having them please I'm about all.
We need you and that way they're coming out and without hope and -- we want people who.
Elaborate too early to know that okay how he's well coming out what you guys do we -- -- because detection bias.
Right now in -- -- -- then.
Isn't it up so let it sit -- -- action mop in it.
And beaten it that way we can do this unit and let -- but what it won an award to do.
It -- and -- they could not actually I am in high school was -- as you can see my (%expletive) and if they didn't come home.
It doesn't I didn't hear even if I'm in the US I don't do calling my brilliant quote he left that didn't they know we they know.
You know other than we had experience together are like -- is there with them.
Okay it's a it's a great message indeed.
Judy David -- -- a survivor of the Lord's Resistance Army.
We wish you the very best -- -- campaign.
We have more on this off but foxnews.com.
Now David story is that -- to a reading.
You'll find -- so much about the horrors.
The Joseph -- and his thugs perpetrated on families -- in Uganda.
And you can find ways that you can perhaps play a pop in the campaign.
-- and the kind of torture and brutality that so many of -- that.
Let's move on now I'm delighted to be joined in this studio here by -- one of the food network's iron chefs -- or.
With me here out you were the first and I -- still the only.
Woman winner mine -- I have been since 2005 until recently and we have a new female with -- passed well we don't wanna talk about coming IQ anyway.
-- get your -- your your whole influence swing is Mediterranean cooking.
Yes I'm -- Americana.
I was -- on a Mediterranean diet my whole life.
And it really is one of the healthiest I have from the planet mostly because it is plant base and helping meet base.
And I especially would almost playing a key role in that because of that antioxidants because of the heart the heart healthy.
Power that it -- and also lowers cholesterol also.
Now and you that you know what happened Euro lined a beautiful -- club there of olive -- They didn't olive oil hasn't necessarily -- the best rapper in in a lot of sort of diet.
Fads that we've seen recently.
That's not listen -- say that is nonsense and I'll tell you why -- it for the reasons that I just specified and because it is definitely an extra virgin is what you wanna look for a label -- -- of -- -- extra -- that means first -- he and because it does have so many antioxidants it's full antioxidants which is.
Great for heart healthy diet is great for again lowering cholesterol.
Withheld it's gotten healthy fats and that.
And it's -- in the saturated fat.
Let's go let's do a true false game and all the oil was still all right -- and -- of oil isn't good for frying food.
That is false because it does have a high smoking point meaning it can go up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.
The reason why people alive -- will do not fried deep fry you with all of well is because of it it's expensive.
True or false oil that is -- first Kohl pressed.
Is just left over that is true the first press is the cold press meeting us without -- chemicals.
And this extra virgin meaning it is the premium.
All of well that you wanna buy anything else is a pure olive oil or -- -- left -- olive oil.
-- olive oil destroys its health benefits.
It does it does destroy some of the health benefits and will.
It definitely does because of the heat again.
That's why but what we do in the Mediterranean.
Is -- will cook with a little bit of all of -- and then -- actually added drizzle of France -- on top.
To get back of those is to keep has been a that this is when I always wondered ID should you -- -- in a refrigerator.
It's not necessary on the unless you live and extremely he -- hot place you might wanna do that.
But -- and that in a dark cool place just like he would wind cloudy and yeah I cease.
Of them on the shelves in the supermarket that look a little cloudy and and others go back.
That's actually not so good at what you wanna do those -- filtered and what happens is they don't last as long.
So you definitely want to buy one it's a nice clear.
You're always gonna find a mostly -- and and darker bottled but he -- nice dark green olive oil.
And then extra -- able.
Right and light or extra like is that is that really worth it does it does it mean fewer calories.
It does not mean your calories actually what it means is it's that second or third press -- lie I'll not let me has been pressed two or three times.
Calories of the same whether it's extra virgin or light.
