The president has taken many steps over the last several years to show his willingness to negotiate.
He's done it.
-- Democrats saying he's too eager to negotiate now the Republicans have not come forward and made comparable movement.
That was the aforementioned secretary of the treasury former White House chief of staff Jack -- Jacob.
To his rivals.
As he explains to Chris Wallace on FOX News Sunday.
That yes OK he admits the president has negotiated over the debt ceiling before and has negotiated -- -- before just dissolve his predecessors have but this -- needs to be different and absolutely he's going to stay there and this is still power play.
And we are very happy to say.
That we have good friends we have good friends who will walk in the rain.
In the rain to the cannon house office building while our studio also known as Greta Van Susteren studio.
Is being turned around Washington.
Bureau so we thank you guys from making the trip -- Lee is a form she slumming on the house side she's a former senior advisor to Harry Reid the majority leader the shuttle only goes one last night.
Only goes one way and Brad -- men he is -- former advisor to president George W.
And Republican political operative extraordinaire and it's.
We should always point out.
Professor at the Georgetown University shaping up months professor welcome -- -- thank you for walking OK so.
Here's the deal.
John Boehner he's -- that he goes on.
And basically says.
I told my members that I will increase the debt ceiling without their help if I have to.
And remember that could be at the very end and it could be for two days.
But until we get to there.
The president's gonna have to give something to get something.
These negotiations are happening in private they're happening in public and the public response essentially from the White House is we're not dealing if you wanna do it if you if I -- This is causing markets and others to be a little anxious -- As they should be.
We have and he didn't understand before any it was different this time is that there isn't that that private conversations -- you saw in 9495.
I don't know how many countless every day there was ongoing conversations between White House chief of staff the speaker -- -- Newt Gingrich at the time and others.
So look I think we all need tee and I do think that they need to get down to conversation it's it's kind of like baseball right now everybody's had a lot of hits.
And now we need to -- to come and get this done because the consequences of the debt ceiling.
-- especially on the shut down as well is no joke in there is market consequences of global consequences for -- as I do think conversations need to -- need to begin.
Now I heard some language from conservatives today.
Nudging it also -- it's not really the seventeenth it won't really be until November 1 or whatever else.
But the consequence that matters here yes it would be very bad it would be very disruptive if the federal government could borrow the more than three billion dollars on average.
It needs to bar every day to do it bread and exploit.
If this if we have a debt and it's not default if you have a debt crisis if the U if the United States cannot borrow money.
What's gonna happen interest rates is going to be astronomical and that has an effect on everybody.
There's no question -- -- this perception and the reality of the perception for the American people's October 17 is the -- the world is looking to the seventeenth.
You can plug and play all the games you want and -- it truly November -- it's the seventeenth and the deal -- not having the seventeenth that's when all hell breaks lose.
But the president is not the greatest moral authority.
On the -- First of all he's negotiated before but also as a senator in 2006 he voted against it.
And and it looked adept at that time is nine trillion now it's seventeen trillion dollars right it takes three -- -- in this town takes the president the house and the senate.
There's now going to be in my opinion global deal if there's a deal at all and there will be on the CR right.
And the -- -- okay.
Global world where the global the size of the globe has shrunk from there you're really afraid if you have used the phrase a global deal.
Six months ago yes we have been talking about entitlement avenue when talking about multiple years right now when we say global deal we mean managing to pass -- CR that authorizes the government that -- But is it 17% of the government currently shot that -- brings that back online and -- debt ceiling ranks right here but here's the real question assuming that both deals are made.
How Long Will it be that we meet the next protests and it's and he and he may have to steal the microphone.
Bret I don't know bipartisan -- and -- like it's.
It's government -- stuff the but the reality here it is and this is something for everybody to be considering right now.
The reality is as we try to do this and as we try to get this done.
Markets will eventually come in and be improving disruptive force right now people are looking at Washington -- thing always to -- point.
Name they can't do a deal until they can't play at the -- end but.
What's different this time is the president is using a lot more absolutist kind of language than before.
Eight and in the markets will react when we saw this at the end of TARP when that first TARP vote went down.
And markets just -- -- -- -- crashed and that -- what brought all sides together because it add to that time.
-- felt the consequences -- -- threats earlier point about the president has senator.
Voting against the debt limit again.
He -- that was a very you know -- was a very political move that he made I think it was fun and it's no good if you -- no consequences too because they knew it was gonna get raised.
These now have consequences we were saying earlier you know.
The dogs have caught the car a hand before it crashes into that into the -- -- something needs to be done so -- both sides to get together.
And try to find that we and I think that most likely is.
The debt ceiling will be raised -- -- -- and in a continuing conversation that reopening the government and that will be kind of meeting where some of the letters.
You you raised that you raise the debt.
Limit but you stay in partial shutdown.
He's been partial shutdown I do -- I mean I just think that that's probably going to bargain is gonna go with that.
We'll have a long term you know about entitlements and other things and we'll do candidacy are over the CR did the consequences.
-- like that because consequences and the debt ceiling but yeah.
Guys are going to land and no no -- the Christmas season is upon us we've been we've been through this the last Halloween a little.
They don't -- -- -- to get ahead of the left and I didn't start like in July and how many to look.
The economy is -- -- -- we don't want to disrupt the retail season which could be huge disruption so let's get it let's get both of these things behind us and let's kick the ball down the -- -- -- almost as.
-- sent home because because were were fairly -- Americans spend almost as much on Halloween now as they do Christmas so whatever you like -- -- Christian or whatever you are.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Internet we believe when Charles hurt.
This age of outrage.
Has -- been spotted somewhere in these confines probably detained several times between here and there but when we come back I can tell you.
To be with you -- stick around Internet.
Every new law every new product -- out there going to be some glitches in the sign up process.
Along the way that we won't fix.
I've been saying this from the start.
And that was President Obama in remarks saying that -- the roll out for his health law was not ideal but like Apple's iPhone sometimes things don't.
Load up properly in the first iteration.
This is power play and you know what else does not load up properly in its first iteration is Charles hurt.
Who is a columnist for The Washington Times quite so who was supposed to be with us here at the cannon rotunda but because of Fox News is.
America's news leader we are able to accommodate him in the wrong building.
Good morning brother hurt it worry you or any adoration for.
Or any generation whatever whatever you've got what would five point -- review of the record out.
I'd say here's the question for you.
No doubt many millions of Americans will sign up.
For their health.
Benefits this subsidized health benefits in the sort of must -- benefits for individuals with preexisting conditions.
Reason you think -- concern that the people who work desire.
To come in under this -- the people who were originally supposed to be subject to -- punitive mandate.
Do you think that they're gonna come -- they'll be less likely to come because the software -- Yeah I think.
The part of that is what the entire problem is they're right it's kind of focusing on -- which is right now obviously it's fun it's easy it's -- and you can hit him.
Pretty good on all off all the myriad which is that we hear about from all over the country but the problem -- -- It is not that they will work out most of those things.
The problem is once you get it fully implemented as you point -- you're gonna have a lot of the healthy people who are not -- -- The young people would you say screw it I'll take the fine.
And by the way they'll also -- federal government as they take that time.
And and they will how can -- change party affiliation at that point.
But but but if this looks into green.
-- that they'll suddenly exactly.
So that's what I think the real problem is is once -- fully gets implemented in everything does.
You you get working it's going to all of its own weight which you know if you talk to some -- really Smart.
You know guys.
Going back a year to that that was what they were saying is that that it didn't matter to them.
If you give -- think if you give the whole program two years it will collapse of its own way.
Well but on whom.
Is the question -- -- -- all the on whom will it collapse it will collapse on all of those those people who did not have insurance and who were promised this would solve all their problems and they would almost certainly be sure it is.
It all on them.
All and end -- like she's is now it will fall on you.
It will allow taxpayers if it falls.
Don't -- I think it.
You do that you think that they would just say to the people who have insurance go away now they'll -- Charles are exactly right a little more in the kitty.
Yeah that you're here -- you read about that except except for two things one is and quite frankly I I've started to believe that.
Part of the strategy is that did that a lot of the people that have have.
Have pursued this that this help care bill.
Are very Smart people.
It's not like -- don't know what's going to collapse and the strategy I think part of the strategy is that when it does collapse they can rebuild it with a single Payer.
A single Payer system.
Full blown socialized medicine the problem with that is that he's given the direction it's going right now and the the increasing unpopularity of the law.
If it were to -- be rebuilt right now.
You wouldn't have that system because it did the high water mark was when President Obama jam this through -- If we had to rebuild it today or in two years I think you're gonna be talking about a far more.
Planned and then what we have now or we'll look -- you know that socialist ideologue if there -- you know that's that's I should expect nothing less from.
I am Gerson I've hired to shoot two to give voice as as Clyde the -- -- tank from any which way but -- say.
-- that there's no way because you know what would happen you know that exactly what would happen now.
And what's gonna happen is that after the bottom falls out they're gonna say we've got to do something they'll say what's rational and president Hillary Rodham Clinton will say.
In the year 27 team.
Well look it didn't work the way we wanted to -- I think people -- around very -- -- I think so as a constant.
I think president Sarah Palin will call on Ted Cruz.
To come in and rebuild the entire thing and then she will appoint him to the Supreme Court you'll take three seats on the Supreme Court so we never have to hear from again.
Except in in opinions well thought out opinions and and president Palin will then you know just keep on -- on.
Possible I would have never thought if I would have never thought that I would -- use as the owner of the luxury -- Instead event rusted out pickup -- so anything is possible in this world about a -- -- possible.
Ford is American -- that I -- that my the next government nice nice nicer than my wheels night.
Call nurses have -- -- -- -- out of time do we can't beat it because you choose to be in a different location you're out of time Charles hurt thanks for joining us have a great day my pleasure thanks.
You Internet we're not done with you yet there's a congressman that would like to have a word with you.
Talk about some things about how does this -- tell us how the story ends.
As it relates -- shut down the debt ceiling everything else.
Somebody with some ideas is waiting to tell you to stick around.
He was prepared to sacrifice the local economy.
He was prepared to sacrifice the towns around Yosemite what do you Islamic Jihad against America invented.
Getting access to health care.
That was George Miller he's a Democrat from California -- Republicans are in a -- pot.
Against the American people by having 17%.
The federal government not functioning.
Their objections about the president's health on this hour flight welcome back and since we are.
At the -- and the house office building rotunda.
We are able to find -- corner and trapped or entice members lawmakers Alan Donnelly.
Is a congressman from the great state of Mississippi the first district -- or the present state congressman welcome.
Well glad to be here with -- look -- and -- -- Apple's now the -- congressman question -- -- The rhetoric is getting ugly.
It is getting very Dicey here.
And you heard George Miller -- -- -- you earned.
Suicide bombers we've heard all of this stuff.
We've now reached the point that Americans are starting to pay attention to this this is gone when the second week now of this partial government shutdown.
The debt ceiling cliff is hanging out there on the seventeenth.
Americans are watching markets are watching.
Are we getting farther away to a -- are we getting closer to a deal.
Well the problem is we've got everybody speaking at one another.
And right now nobody talking with one another Harry Reid last week said OK first to ask what exactly what I want to pass and then we'll sit out -- The -- and I'm not gonna talk at all -- that's -- the -- you get things done in America and I always say easy comps and out of the conference table let's talk to us to solve the problem.
OK so John Boehner has basically it's -- he's got a very small.
-- side that he's gonna have to walk her on this.
He says he's not gonna let the United States run out of borrowing ability he's the bills are gonna get paid he says and if -- do you that with mostly democratic votes.
He'll do that before the seventeenth when the Treasury Secretary says it has to be done but at the same time he's telling the president he's got to come to the table and do a deal how do you walk that line.
Well any of us that have ever been in business gets placed a Friday.
When you got payroll coming up and you don't have enough money in the -- to Mike -- You call the by case and the -- It's irresponsible not to do that I think that's exactly what speaker site and is it OK we up to seventy went out of money in the -- We need to -- alone however.
When -- have done that in my small business.
-- called the -- cannot fully expect my -- to ask me some tough questions.
What do you do to repay this loan what do you do to make sure you'll get in this mess again.
And I think that is responsible is well and right now the president simply says.
Don't want to talk about any plan going forward and that is irresponsible.
Right so when we talk about.
-- it's been interesting to watch work here.
The speaker and and you all have passed.
I'll note that the bill that pat there's been one unanimous bill passed the house and all of this mess and it was two back pay for federal workers now.
In every previous government -- this is the eighteenth government -- and every previous one federal workers have gotten paid you guys came out and said.
Let's put in writing let's say that we promise that they're going to get paid.
You got unanimous support from Democrats and as it turns out for the majority leader in the senate this creates a pressure point because he may be able to say.
I'm not gonna let through a National Institutes of Health bill or some other bill.
Biggest political patron the most important group for patronizing Democrats in politics or government worker unions -- so you guys can hit him where her.
Well and we said let's find areas where we agree yes we do disagree over Obama -- but let's not put the whole country into a shut down.
Over that was funny we agree on -- the troops.
Making sure we keep veterans' benefits keeping life saving medical research going open national parks let's let's take that off the table.
And right now with the democratic controlled senate will not to step up and do that.
But it appears in the house they unanimously supported -- government employees and it looks like that's gonna happen in the senators -- They're gonna come over there and you could see from the majority leader of the body language basically said.
Something is gonna happen work because there's no way that there -- -- the majority leader and that really announce his reelection bid and today and Politico you know that he's not gonna go tell the AFL CIO I'm not putting it in writing for you he can give them assurances but they're gonna wanna see in writing if it's coming from the house.
And then we -- -- take these other issues off the table -- last week my goodness when the majority leader in the -- so Q1 01 knew about -- -- keep it.
Well let's keep there -- search going.
Let's take that off the table the same thing for the national Guardsmen and reservists.
We've agreed to -- the troops we need to pay the national Guardsmen and reservists.
Let's continue military.
Less than what happens if we get to the debt ceiling if we get to the day.
What -- what happens then if if congress were not how do you describe it some call it -- some -- whatever what do you describe.
What happens on the seventeenth or it soon thereafter.
Well the best way to describe it is -- we will have money company and we usually don't have enough money to pay all of our -- Not unlike a family in a tough month they still -- -- make the house payment and the car payment.
But it's irresponsible just to ignore the problem the president must come to the table -- -- what were -- long term plans so that we can -- all apartment.
Right now you know he must be good politics if he could've gone to Mississippi State represent -- mess so maybe there's going to be smitten maybe you're onto something here congressman I appreciate your -- -- Thank you for making time for us today.
Okay you Internet we thank you for making time for us today -- you're also a pretty big deal and I wanna know this tell you what you think about what we're about to -- We're about to show you George will not instead of Charles Krauthammer but because it was Sunday yesterday and we want you to have something good.
On Monday is not just me.
We -- to have something actually -- so what about that what if we showed you George well on a Monday when he was on the -- just something for you to think about.
So we'll do that to you were for you depending on your point of view and this is the sign off of the broadcasting day at live dot foxnews.com.
They'll be more content to watch around here that this is the end of the -- for the day so it's my duty my privilege to say for all of us here foxnews.com we're signing -- have a great day we'll see you back here tomorrow.
The big country and Republicans now -- what liberals are supposed to admire which is diversity.
Except liberals don't want diversity in thought and that's what the Republicans now have and make some rather interest.
