Okay as far as we're gonna -- the hour with with a fun discussion.
About amusement parks and Pete should you go is -- -- Pete is the author.
Of a book there's the cover we have the paperback version here America's top roller coasters.
And -- -- parks a guide for those who ride them and tips for those.
Who fear -- Pete thanks to have you here thanks very much for coming in Phil thanks for having it and really appreciate coming in -- -- -- -- idea for a book had to come up with a.
Well actually -- came up with the idea because I was actually petrified.
Of roller coasters.
Also -- happening the way back when I was six years old little place called Coney Island.
Might have heard of it and what happened was that went on a ride didn't like it very much and as one.
Actually I don't know I was only six years all the time but it wasn't one up big when it really just a little one but it scared me.
And I decided I was not gonna do roller coasters for many many years but my daughter was born in 1996.
-- -- -- I decided well.
I wanna be able to share things with their wanna be able to overcome this -- and even -- with the pilot and the pilot and -- done aerobatics and I you know basically can do all that.
Still the fear the childhood -- So I started in 96 and several years later I was overcame the fear enjoyed it enjoy with my family.
And I'm in the aviation history -- work for a company called CRS to experience a travel all over the country.
And while I do that.
He only you sit in the hotel room between conference's.
Well -- -- go to the -- and parks and and do stuff along those lines so I started getting into that and -- one day little -- people they said.
What you read a book about you know so much about it so.
That's what happened.
Doesn't like it all right well that then that lets so let's get right to it that because.
You know I think as someone who has traveled across the country you've obviously been able to get to a lot of these places.
Let's look at that list of the top ten amusement parks.
Around the United States and the very top of the list attitude Disney and -- of my dad's dad wanted Florida one in California well.
Actually -- when I gave the order basically and and I try to do that in the book I don't wanna give the order of no one through ten.
As being one best content being -- because obviously all the news and parks are great but we have to start somewhere.
And where better to start that of course.
You can't beat you've got four parks there eighteen hotels that are under the Disney name.
As well as dozens of -- and it's an amazing place to be so amazing the place to go to.
And the thing about Disney World -- Disney World and Disneyland we're getting that later is that their family friendly.
You've got one got some pretty good rides like rock and roller coaster which is a pretty decent ride down -- -- -- coaster enthusiasts but you also have.
The kiddie -- you have.
So this something for everyone at Disney and that's one of the reasons.
Why they bring in fifteen to twenty million people a year for those -- parks.
They know what they're doing what you're doing okay we'll sit there since you don't go in order.
Then but I will I'll jump around as well just sort of lumped together.
Which are all Six Flags.
Abuse in parts of this is day.
This is a chain and I happen to.
Grown up in south Jersey going to number eight.
Great adventure which is exit seven -- off of the New Jersey Turnpike I remember -- well.
Lots of good times there as a kid.
But this Six Flags folks because they got them all over the place -- I guess they -- they come up with a formula that worked.
Obviously they've got twelve amusement parks all over the country and five water parks.
Depends on which ones you like the best ones obviously six lead to Six Flags Great Adventure Six Flags over Texas is as another excellent one.
And you know the thing about Six -- is that again they they try to female like.
The thing you'll find differently there -- a wolf from a Disney World is that you're gonna find some.
Pretty intense rights people go to those parts because they want to ride.
For example -- to -- which is DePaul is that I have great adventure right that's a great adventures tallest and fastest roller coaster in the country.
Just -- you go from zero to 148 miles an hour.
In three seconds straight up 440 feet.
Straight down 440 feet never lose any speed along the way it is a an intense ride.
It's the fastest in the United States right now I think there's one faster now just created in in in and and -- I think but.
All other than that you know Beazer why you go to these parks they if -- had got the amusements but the same time this is why -- these parts for the rides.
And of course and it -- it attractions shows there's something for everyone.
That's what you know -- out of high school right now I feel like I don't know I grab her I'm so scared I like go to you're the 128.
That is negative that's an editorial.
-- exactly a happy you know I I've noticed something because I did not I I don't get to -- of parts as often as I as I did when I was a kid.
I think that there's something biologically that happens to your body that that really as you get a little bit older C -- interest -- -- -- the fact that you started off afraid of these things and as you had gotten older and had your own kids you've learned to love them.
My body my stomach can't take it that way that I -- -- -- when I was six.
-- 1718 years old when you're 1617.
Years old you're on wood coasters in there rickety and they stick around.
And they -- the old steel -- coast with a big horse collars and yes they were pretty rough -- had -- a banged up a lot.
I -- I like not Rocky Balboa after like fifteen rounds.
Nowadays the -- the manufactures put together smooth -- these -- those mood.
You come off that ride and -- exhilarating you yes you do feel the G forces the negative G forces.
And the positive G forces depending on what you're doing but at the same time you come off that -- it's extremely smooth.
And how I rated coasters amusement parks was really -- -- ability.
If you -- -- go back on that ride because you love it it's a fantastic ride and you can't wait to get back on the queue line to go on and again that's what I think the right.
Some right I've been on like yourself.
Of they're rough you get -- -- my wife's a chiropractor.
And a lot of times I've had into you.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- dead outside of them alive and his hair better business cards.
-- let's take a look at some -- your your picks for the top role because you either we'll start with the steel ones and we'll go to the wooden ones as well and I remember the super duper looper they're great adventure and that was one that I just -- guard.
Got off big -- got right back on the line you know but I guess these are some of the -- ones.
Cedar Point is that Ohio -- Dublin Ohio send us deal while it's on the peninsula that's I bid -- -- -- apart that is a fun.
That's a fun place to go today at the millennium -- -- -- -- six flags New England magic mountain six flights to these are some of the best.
What makes these the best.
Well again rewrite ability on -- roller -- millennium force might not be the tallest anymore 300 feet or the fastest data around 8090 miles an hour.
But what it does have it's a long ride it's got -- right ability.
It will look.
You can write a ten times and you gonna get the same -- on the -- pride that you did on the first strike and that's one of the things plus it's extremely smooth so -- why that made my list.
But Darryl which is over it Six Flags in and -- -- -- -- that one is not as hole.
But if you like to get ejected Eddy cedar feel like -- getting ejected out of your seat.
And again most of these rides are all they're all safe.
They just want to give the illusion that that's the -- to go on if you really really like that X two which is in Six Flags magic mountain.
That's is the craziest or do you ever wanna -- -- what I was trying to overcome my fear I try to see the track before hand and just guess what's going on X to you can't it's it's flipping around so many different ways as so many different directions it's impossible.
That's why that made the list.
Apollo is -- Busch Gardens is another great one that's at Williamsburg.
Again very tall fast coaster very smooth and -- -- according to how we talked about the wooden roller coasters these are more old -- -- still building wooden roller -- yes they are and those -- -- now -- getting almost as smooth as those steel coasters.
I mean if that they come -- come a long way from rises by we have great -- cyclone in Brooklyn.
But it's a rough probably 1927.
That was created and of course that Charles Lindbergh was boasting how great it was and -- is -- -- -- But it's rough the new list that we have -- -- rights like -- ahead.
All over it -- world in pigeon Fords.
Great smooth ride again basically.
You're on a wooden coaster you're moving pretty fast but at the same time you -- -- -- -- -- -- neck injury which for me and be an older person is is important.
But all the day Ashley compounds another great ride -- -- in Bristol can Connecticut.
Fantastic ride it actually follow the curvature of the mountain so you don't know what's going on -- ghost writer that's that does not very farms in California.
Not a great ride and you know it's kind of ahead chopper you know what it is all right if you go through yet -- -- -- -- and -- to put your head down.
All the -- is playing ahead shopping business you see a lot of people trying to duck.
-- -- -- five -- I wanna have to we're gonna guns could go through the rest of the -- -- -- El -- it's it's -- -- -- great -- and a Texas -- at Six Flags over Texas.
You know on the go back now I sure -- I really feel like I'm ready for this again with an adventure opening in April.
And my oldest is six years old so I think she's ready for.
She's ready for a -- he still have to be as high as Yosemite Sam are.
I'll say I'll say you must be this.
He's still out of the good good big rooster or whatever that tells you how to the media a lot more like -- thank you very much.
Hello there are a lot of great -- there and nine -- you should try it again being that much right you're gonna get a better experience now.
The rides are a lot smoother I don't know how how big guy your child -- so I'm not sure how many -- she might be able to get up but they'll huddle and we'll get her on the rob -- via some.
Elevated shoes and -- there America's top roller coasters.
At amusement parts is the book -- of -- but I think BP thanks very much for coming in -- -- thank you for -- discussion Ella.
