The liberty power hour.
-- it's not welcome the freedom watch a sixty minute projection of raw liberty.
Streaming from a highly acclaimed strategy relevant boxes back.
I'm -- -- right -- -- politics and a we'll discuss the issues that profoundly affect your freedom.
You're civil liberties your financial liberties and -- right you're absolutely right to have a government.
That stays within the confines of the constitution.
It's my great pleasure to introduce one of America's great defenders of freedom in congress and elsewhere congressman Ron Paul joins us from our nation's capital.
Congressman Paul welcome freedom watch.
-- you joining us is my dear friend and mentor Lou Rockwell.
Founder of the look big on me since institute in Auburn Alabama.
A research and educational center of classical liberalism and -- and Austrian economics familiar to many of you little.
Great -- video thank you.
Congressman well first you -- what is your greatest year.
The president's health care proposals.
-- We don't get some modification and what you -- seeing is the cost of medical care skyrocketing.
At the same time they will be price controls placed on and then -- have scarcity and the quality of care will go downhill.
The only saving grace could be if they ally now.
Something to be put in the -- where you can opt out of this system and take care of yourself.
Although it would be a disaster.
Trying to put eighty or 90% -- the government if you -- allowed to opt out at least there would be a little bit of hope.
To keep of the strings tied on the federal government right now it doesn't look very good for the patient.
-- one were permitted us congressman Paul just articulated.
To opt out of the system.
That fanciful to think that insurance companies could really compete with the government.
I mean for example what why should the head of any company.
Provide private insurance for his or her employees.
If the government is gonna provided -- taxpayer expense anyway.
What did you make a good point and I think that it would be tough.
On the other hand won only -- the visit -- VA hospital or Indian Health Service hospital or any other government metal medical facility.
To realize what a disaster and -- of this great these things are.
So certainly anybody is allowed to opt out -- -- who financially could do it would opt out the trouble is.
We -- we do not allow for example people who were over 65 to opt out of Medicare they're forced into it but we do not in this country have a good record of medical freedom.
The president's -- congressman Paul that if you like your present insurance.
Like your relationship with your position.
You can keep that carriers keep that relationship.
Don't you think that the government would intrude even into the position.
Patient relationship and we heard this morning talk about.
Some sort of a panel of physicians hired by the government.
Will tell other practicing physicians.
What menu of choices is available for.
I -- the role of federal government should be playing in our lives as it.
-- had absolutely no line and and you know you might not have this so called freedom that off now which has its shortcomings.
But what if they doctors are getting tired of this went up -- 56 in -- and decide to retire which many have already started doing.
With -- managed care system our system is very perfect right now that's -- -- and complaining about it.
It's very imperfect -- Eventually you'll lose your doctor anyway I mean what he did the Canadians have a choice to their doctor.
Now I I think it will be restricted -- -- I'm just convinced that the the result will be poor care for all Americans.
Except for the very very few -- the very rich of course are always do.
It -- Soviet system that went to -- the position that is where the political hacks.
Hopefully become the people who with a political power houses maybe go to the clinics that is always -- special -- And and this country up until now of course people got pretty.
-- care and even I remember practicing medicine before we head.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Decided he'd find what insurance is is has nothing to do with insurance this is just.
Pain care everybody has its right to Madison -- I've heard you mention this before -- This assumption you have a white.
To medical care that's the wrong assumption -- that I.
But it sets of on -- us on the wrong track and that leads to the disaster that we're.
The government has succeeded congress well you know this better than.
Than anybody because you've been spending the bulk of your professional career battling against it in convincing the American people that government is the solution.
People say to me if I'm sure they see all this forty million uninsured Americans what is expected to -- -- well.
Shouldn't government be absolute last resort and in the case of the federal government.
Because it's not authorized by the constitution.
No resort hit the free market addressed almost any problem of that magnitude.
If on impeded by government regulation.
That's right they don't have the right to do it once again I think it's -- definition.
To be insured against an accident.
Or against cancer or whatever.
When you're when you're twenty years won't even have a different attitude about insurance.
I don't recall my parents having insurance in the 1950s.
And they paid -- You know -- it wasn't all that expensive right now and another thing people don't talk about is there's a lot of price inflation in medical care.
We have a lot of monetary inflation CPI is not going up but the cost of government the cost of medical care is skyrocketing.
And therefore it is a monetary phenomenon in this as well and of course Obama says all we have to lower the costs and everybody is gonna have this free -- and and it.
That's the question where does this can't -- up front.
I mean does the government weakening government deliver care that they can only confiscated from those who provide the care one way the other.
It's it's doomed to fail it's really sad tragedy because we've given up on even thinking about -- you could.
Possibly deliver medical care in a free society.
-- isn't one of the truly insidious features of what the president is proposing.
That it might get past.
And people might order their lives in expectation of receiving these services sort of like seniors -- now with respect to Medicare and might become.
To end it or stop or returned to the free market.
Well I think if they -- very -- we go and look at what happened in other countries and whether the UK York.
Or the countries in Europe when they adopt these programs yet become politically -- candidate matter.
Politically very tough to get rid of it on the other hand of the recent court decision candidate showed there -- it is possible even under these systems to expand freedom.
I think we're just going to have to do and do with a Dell Lenovo group of a group of doctors who are thinking of buying a cruise ship.
And they -- -- twelve miles off the coast of new York.
And pulling you know.
And medicine where you pay for it.
You pay the doctor the doctor was responsible do you -- the employer.
That's the proper thing in medicine but everything you've been elected -- that we've had these third party payers.
Because -- It was possible to live with -- -- the -- -- possible for the patient the patient at the bump in the road to get over the get the that the blue cross or Medicare or Medicaid or.
But the but the majority bill.
Bad I think we need to think about how we're going to as if they succeed in putting this through -- offering assault Walter Reed.
That the amount of money.
We have to think about how we can.
The heat from the system.
I don't think that's a very good thing to think about an education and many other areas we need -- the heat from the tyrannical system.
Unbelievable that would actually have to leave the country in order to get the -- health care which were entitled congressman Paul.
I know on this hectic Wednesday afternoon you have to go and vote but I wanted to ask -- -- question.
That's something you -- -- talked about.
Over the weekend last week the House of Representatives voted was only one descent.
To condemn the outcome.
Of the only apparent outcome of the election for president of Iran you aware that -- what what was the house trying to do.
And why did you dissent.
Well they were trying to send a message that the president wasn't speaking loudly enough out for the dissenters in the streets on Iran.
And I have nothing against that matter of fact I think it's very encouraging.
But it also raises more questions and answers.
Who's behind it is our CIA behind that you know we're spending we have a program 400 million dollars.
-- undermine the government.
So on the sobbing -- is not necessarily -- saint Peter and.
This resolution sounded like it may be endorsing him but my position is strictly constitutional.
Mind our own business we can't sort all this out.
And if freedom writers around the world are are showing that they can.
Change your system we -- Welcome hand praise it but we don't mean to imply that we know what's -- what's going on them and who when she can -- and pick sides.
But the reason that the reason Obama was correct in this.
Was you know he said something similar reasons why should we plastic cap because we might get blamed it might look like and -- That he had more at stake although what I said was somewhat similar he had a little bit more -- I want -- Tina who's that.
There's some evidence to show that we are constantly involved in any of these countries and it.
A big secret that we had a program to undermine.
And and judge I'm sorry but I will excuse myself now if that -- all right.
Absolutely congressman Paul thanks very much thanks for joining kind.
Mary Shelley Shelley -- joins us now she's actually been the whole time.
Taking emails and taking tweets from those of you Twitter to -- it was a pleasure welcome back to freedom watch.
What do you have for us anything for Lou Rockwell anything for congressman Falwell that -- answer it -- anything for your humble host and good body.
At at at at.
People are asking -- what role that the local government and the states can play and that basically -- health care situation.
That's an interesting question Lou and the state governments.
Play any role in and health care regulation the state of our Soledad humane oh.
It's on the cusp of -- -- legislation.
Which would give people -- Arizona the right to reject the federal program no matter what it commands I mean it's going to be.
Federalism problems there but at least it's state Arizona of all places maybe since my -- -- it's no longer govern.
Arizona returning to Barry Goldwater roots.
At least there's a statement standing up for individual freedom do you see any more that's coming -- Yeah isn't happening all across the country not only -- to remember back including the Patriot Act and the nationalized he blew -- the driver's -- -- they don't know there's more.
-- -- -- live in the states.
Welcome they probably feel very little government.
I think that yet that's going to be playing Colin Quinn they not live in the good old American tradition.
You know blatantly unconstitutional -- position like this little a little a little something that mr.
Obama's talking about.
Throwing -- throwing and I think and I believe it is the great thing and who knows I mean that.
They've got the equivalent of rebelled against -- king -- the -- there's little delegates can block with.
They might and might very well have to do the very interesting -- -- federal judges.
Would do with us getting back to to foreign policy what what what is your take flu.
On what's happening in Iran today and what if anything the American government.
Should do I hate myself.
And as -- -- Jeffersonian you can get on foreign policy.
I believe that Moussavi is no Jefferson and just as much a monster.
-- my -- -- -- would be but obviously my heart.
Goes to those people demonstrating in the streets they may not get any more freedom.
But god bless their efforts to try and achieve.
Well I think it's I think it's wonderful Olympic -- that again chosen but there's actually more open at the end Iran than there -- they in the US puppet state of Egypt.
Where there were demonstrations like this people old people -- -- all the would be on the machine gun.
There's I would think some hope there and I I believe the quality who the -- but the fact along on Salman -- Calling for the death penalty for somebody wrote a book he didn't like.
So he's not a good guy anyway in the firing squad after the after the Islamic group revolution took place.
So yeah he's the he's he's not a good guy that I would say we don't know what's going on and -- and none of us know.
Another look because they -- very few -- speak -- Very few of us understand the politics of around and certainly -- -- -- -- in congress with the exception of the one man all of the one.
Loan -- man speaking out recruitment freedom Ron Paul.
We don't believe guys in congress don't know anything about program -- absolutely don't medal there -- President Obama that at least initial.
Feeling about just saying it's none of the US's business -- -- heroic he's unfortunately moving in in -- more interventionist position but.
Congress who played a very bad role.
He's he's moving that way because he has this finger in the wind.
And because he's he's feeling some heat or some wind as the case may be here in the new look under -- -- Or pushing him towards -- more accurate and right neo cons of both parties -- -- from the Oakland east institute thanks very much.
It's always a pleasure low until next ones like -- good thanks for joining us Wayne Allyn root is.
