-- okay now to the stimulus plan that some say.
He's having a hard time stimulating 42 states losing jobs last month the unemployment rate spiking above 12% five of those states.
So the question people are -- starting to ask.
Is whether or not stimulus is working yeah Rendell the democratic governor of Pennsylvania is -- working governor.
There's no question that stimulus in France -- has been responsible.
For -- retaining -- creating about 41000.
New jobs -- jobs.
And let me talk to -- about retaining.
Cut this year in the Pennsylvania budget two point six billion dollars is given to us to help us defray the cost of additional Medicaid costs.
And of educational costs if you took away that two point six billion between state workers police.
-- county workers we move lost about 25000 jobs additionally.
We're spending about 700 million of the one billion dollars in roads bridges and highways money ran a hundred million of -- water and -- money.
That's created thousands of jobs not only on the construction site -- -- -- back in the factories because when you do bridge.
You have to have -- you have to have asked what you have to have concrete you have to timber.
And those orders going to Pennsylvania factories and they hire bad people -- the other there's no question it's working.
It's it is a question of timing to some extent and in them but you say it's already starting to work now.
Good thing that we we saw here in the C in the city Philadelphia not statewide and the city Philadelphia -- -- I had to start raising some taxes here to pay for all this which brings -- kind of a larger issue with some of that.
As you know it's of the local governments we.
Are so used to the national conversation -- financing everything.
From borrowing you can't do that locally and that was sort of see taxes go up -- -- that's gonna put people are pretty tough spot right governor.
Well that's counter cyclical -- questioned by the way state governments to we're not allowed to deficit spend right we have to have a balanced budget he'll have to regular -- us to.
What will -- you -- minimal amount attacks but we're still raising taxes -- raising cigarette taxes things like that.
So houses consumer getting -- -- back in an environment like that where the jobs are still good -- and their their taxes are going up even if they're not.
Going up federally as much they're so they're gone up locally.
Well -- remember -- almost in Pennsylvania four point six billion people.
Are getting the tax cut tax cut -- that comes from the stimulus program remember there were significant tax cuts -- -- -- A lot of people -- getting tax rebates for their cause to have a new homes in separate -- so you've got to bounce off the tax increases with the tax cuts that are in the stimulus.
Let me ask you what real quick questions I brought up earlier about timing because -- -- a lot of economists on fox business and other places and they are selling as well by net you know the economy is starting to rebound -- were worried about next year we go back into recession what do you guys think Pennsylvania's always a key state for this.
What about what's next you're gonna look like.
Well I I think we'll will begin to bounce back up on this year's budget I predicted that we have to make -- revenue estimate zero growth.
In next year's budget we predicted 3% growth that's not like our normal growth for my first five years is -- -- 6%.
We believe growth will return but I'm not sure there isn't -- need for additional infrastructure spending you know I was a big supporter of the stimulus and still ram.
But the one area where it was not as good as I thought it would have been.
Was in infrastructure spending that's -- clearest producer of jobs and orders -- -- Pennsylvania and US factories.
We should have more infrastructure spending I think to make sure that the economy doesn't get back.
All right and governor before we let you go just we had dad Governor Huckabee on earlier and you know that's why I ask you quick question about national politics -- -- obviously the health care and everything else and ensure.
You've always been a big figure the Democratic Party would have some thoughts as well.
-- he talked about some of the comments come out of the speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi and also.
Oh with with with some of the protesters and the comments have -- -- a former president Jimmy Carter with regard to race he says got nothing to do with race it's all about policy.
What's happening in this country with a -- With the criticism -- the president is a race based.
We'll look at.
I think the majority of it is not race basically the majority of it is people who disagree on policy and in often cases.
They disagree with President Obama because they've been misled or lied to like on the death panels.
So I think -- race plays a very little factor is that race in American politics.
Yes they're always has been and sadly -- with a small percentage people always will be.
The most of the criticism is on policy.
But it's not well informed criticism because they're no death panels you can keep your health care if you you like it.
I mean there's so many misconceptions out there -- -- whip people up to a frenzy and yes course -- hate -- it's.
Right and there's some -- whether it's the racially motivated all the birth there is I mean that's absolutely absurd Connell and I think everyone agrees with that every normal rational Verizon.
-- -- Are -- -- that's driven by hate but I'm not sure it's racial element of okay fair enough I always appreciate your views governor Rendell good -- see you thanks for coming up.
