And that is heaviest he went about 320 pounds but he's starting to get the upper hand and now when he steps on the scale the Dow reaches the mid 200 range he gives his comical take on all of it in a brand new book call my footprint.
Carrying the weight of the world.
Ladies and gentlemen please welcome Jeff Garland.
-- -- -- You are an incredibly funny guy.
You do this in -- show with Larry David yes but then you write about a very serious topic in a funny way in this book called.
My footprint yes I mean how do you make funny stuff out of health issues while flat I don't try that's the first -- -- just write about my.
There's it's really funny to read about somebody failing you know and when you try and diet you're bound to fail diets don't work so once you have that -- point there -- some good humor.
I really identifiable to book I too like you have described here and the food addict and I've gone to the the battle over -- and again.
And it is one of the most difficult challenges I think many of us face we very much -- with a huge crisis in the country now particularly their children it's you -- you had a crisis on white.
Many people -- had a stroke you -- very young man yeah I was young girls and -- problems when I was younger and and to have a stroke of 37 but you know that the thing where logic has nothing to do -- weight loss you know you'd fit into that after a stroke.
Boom I would have done something right away that's when I began to ballooned to 3218.
After a stroke what do you think triggered that sense of okay gosh I've got to change I'll change all right I'll give bigger.
Well -- very and anxiety the anxiety me.
I eat because of feelings -- good or bad want to shove them down and won you over stroke you've a lot of feelings that you just eat eat.
It wasn't until I'm not kidding -- To -- wrote the book and I'm writing the -- and I'm feeling the pressure from reading the book.
And I'm meeting more and -- you know you know the books about -- As I'm writing down what I'm doing to myself I'm going you'll really have a problem you're just really.
And that's when I admitted that I was a food addict and once I remember I was an addict I approach it like an alcoholic.
Kevin had sugar and over a year.
But that first taste of a cookie -- not a good taste of a -- I'm gone the same thing with your first -- you know.
So I'm very real serious life like that it works like a charm you -- I really can relate to the fact that that a person has a food addiction Wright has to virtually go through a detox much like an alcoholic would go -- this time you're where does go through.
-- several weeks of simply being completely off the things that trigger.
Not just appetite that triggered the feelings.
And all those emotions that come of that.
The I would have to say the first three weeks of going out sugar.
I -- I've -- fast food.
For over a year to that was a little bit difficult paled in comparison to the sugar didn't sleep.
At all for like 23 days of the time -- was crabby.
Headings that it felt like somebody was punching me in that.
Just out and out a horrible horrible time.
Heart palpitations -- and everything.
But on the other side of it it's almost like -- want to blinders off I see things so clearly now I my energy is.
I can't even if it's not even that I sort of than words I wrote about it but not analyze.
Play it back to the book one of the things I've found interest in Jeff it wasn't like a book of here I've done it on to tell you how to do it is -- -- -- -- -- here is this journey and a whole lot of that is why -- messed up today yes that.
A lot of boy I messed up today have which we don't -- UV which we all do.
We all messed up every day and that's why one of our topical about the book not -- -- to.
Not -- how to it's my journey and I think I was remotely successful.
You know I think that's -- -- because as you said it's -- -- how to and it's exactly -- it's it's a description.
But anyone who's ever battled with food addiction are with weighty issues.
We'll find themselves reading the book and saying boy I I know this guy he it is neat -- definitely -- another -- I -- -- to figure out how to fix it all right but this -- gives -- once -- I know this -- actually.
As you read the book I learned how to eat correctly -- -- him and for the -- among you have reseller.
Where it's -- no salt.
Sort of fresh foods it's no secret that's also think there's no secret to lose weight there's no special panel now there's not thing except it's really really extraordinarily hard.
But you can do it.
He always said that if he was in a food a hundred years ago it's not a food today.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- All those you know there's more than like 45 ingredients you really want -- My guess lot of food it's a food product national.
