President Obama again pressuring congress today to pass that huge economic stimulus package he says it will help the economy rebounds listen here.
The time for talk is over.
Time for action.
Because we know that if we do not act.
A bad situation will become dramatically worse critics of the current stimulus deal Republicans and some Democrats say there are some major problems that the bill is too big that there aren't enough tax cuts.
The Republican senator Lindsey Graham from South Carolina has been has been speaking out often on this in the voices frustrations of Fox News earlier today listen to this.
This process stinks.
Where where in different camps nobody's talking to each other you got twelve democratic senators and five Republican senators.
Trying to save a hundred billion dollars.
We're making this up as we go and it is a waste of money it is a broken process.
And the present as far as I'm concerned it's been a wall.
In providing leadership on something as important as this.
A wall in providing leadership so can they find some common ground joining us now.
Missouri senator Claire McCaskill a supporter of the stimulus bill she also proposed a 500000 dollar executive salary caps for companies that.
Take federal money at least -- A senator great to see you thank you.
Thank you how we hope to see earlier in the newscast and and -- the people's business to attend to so I'm not complaining but I know you with Harry Reid.
And I and I wonder what went down there to -- where you can tell us.
Well we are trying.
I my friend Lindsey Graham is a great senator but.
He he really needs to understand that a lot of us are working to try to improve this bill what's at stake is too important.
If we do nothing if we do nothing.
Then we are going to see instead of a half a million jobs lost -- month for a kid million jobs amounts as far as I'm in here so we have to do something.
I don't -- -- I don't have any reason disbelieve you were any of the leaders but I just been hearing it for so long I mean -- and I heard you on this on the floor the other day let's do this for years you haven't yet heard this somehow.
We have a bunch of idiots on Wall Street that are kicking sand in the face of the American taxpayer.
They don't get a these people are idiots.
You can't use taxpayer money to pay out eighteen billion dollars in bonuses.
Of course in some cases senator McCaskill the truth was they had contractual obligations to pay out money right.
Well that's not really true.
John Thain the CEO of Merrill Lynch on as as that he was having a shotgun marriage with Bank of America.
A -- -- four billion out of the Merrill Lynch hot and asked for ten million himself.
When his company had just lost 21 billion in the fourth quarter.
So it's it's not just that they were contract -- obligations that.
Most importantly whether we're talkin' about the taxpayer money it's in the financial rescue package or whether we're talking about taxpayer money in the recovery act.
We've got to make sure we're accountable for all this money and that's why some of us are working hard to get some of the spending out of this bill.
That is not stimulated -- this is not a place to appropriate.
Well I think most of the American people said in surveys that there -- you on that and so many are wondering why would all of this stuff that clearly does not stimulate the economy.
Go in there as sly -- but by people who were on Capitol Hill at a time when we are led to believe the world is coming to an end if we don't do this right.
Gooden -- Washington around here like -- you move when you can you get stuff when you think you can get it.
But here's there's an alternative -- do -- a different way we can come together as Democrats and Republicans.
And try to save jobs in this country without trying to take political shots and believe me my friends and my party and some of my friends the Republican Party.
Still are busy playing the game old way trying to take political shots.
Let's get this done let's make it as good as we can possibly make it and save some Johnson the American people.
Is that part of the problem that the congress and in the president and so many people are are telling us.
Look it's different this time this is more serious than we can even put into words and yet.
The make people we've elected to represent us in Washington are still acted like it's the same old crap and haven't changed their ways of all if you were a constituent.
If you were out here when you -- little frustrated with the -- Well believe me I know how -- the people I work for our.
When I vented on the floor of the Senate.
I was channeling much the people in Missouri.
Then I worked for.
Am I guess I get the anger I get the frustration and we got two choices here we can be mad and angry -- can try to do the best we can't.
To get our economy back what we know we can get it.
If we all come together and do the right thing and I think we're this close to getting that to happen today in the United States.
Senator Claire McCaskill Democrat of the state of Missouri good luck thanks so much for being here we appreciate you.
All right you bet that's it.
