As soon as the close of business today the absentee ballot counting is going on right now.
At this moment incumbent Lisa Murkowski.
Is throwing out accusations that her challenger and Tea Party favorite Joe Miller.
Is trying to scare voters with allegations of election fraud.
Miller at the moment holds a lead.
A fewer than 17100.
Votes over Murkowski about twenty to 25000 votes remain.
To be counted Joe Miller joins me live right now from Anchorage -- thank you so much for being here we appreciate it.
Thank you for having.
All right so this.
As witnessed by your campaign staffers.
In certain offices.
And you've -- to lieutenant governor and asked for among other things that he post Alaska T he state troopers accounting offices because a specific examples you cited.
Of problems you or your opponent Lisa Murkowski comes out today.
In an interview with the Associated Press mr.
-- -- in calls you of being paranoid.
Saying you're questioning of the process may stem from a lack of experience.
And saying that you.
Are damaging the integrity of the election process with these allegations -- sponsor.
-- we have complete confidence in the integrity the voting system here in Alaska the division of elections.
Is handling the situation I think an appropriate way.
What we've responded to our improper actions that have occurred.
By the other campaign within certain vote -- areas that lieutenant governor's address that.
He's responded to our concerns.
He certainly made several comments that verify the concerns that we raised.
But we're convinced that the end of the day we're gonna have been accurate vote tally and it's gonna reflect the will of the Alaskan people.
Your opponent Lisa Murkowski she's the existing senator from the state of Alaska.
He's your endorsed by Sarah Palin in the Tea Party she was endorsed.
By some more establishment Republicans but she comes out and says this or she says that you may be positioning yourself.
To challenge the results here if they happen to break.
Her away in other -- she seems to be casting.
On some some doubt on the legitimacy of your concerns.
Yet the only way to we'd ever challenge any thing is that there was evidence that was some sort of vote tampering.
Right now we don't have that we certainly have evidence of improper actions within certain areas.
But those aren't at all I think casting any Paul -- the whole event results so we're gonna see from -- today.
It also later on as the rest of the votes were -- Let me read you what she said to be associated press and get your reactions there it just seems that in the weeks since the election it has just continued to be yet one more hype.
One more mischaracterization.
One more just trumped up -- rhetoric that leads people to think there's some kind of subterfuge -- some kind of shenanigans going on.
For someone who wants to be Alaska's Republican nominee for senate.
Miller is certainly afraid.
Up Republicans your response.
Well I think that the primaries over and it's unfortunate we're -- and that kind of rhetoric you know if we gonna see out of her campaign.
People accessing a division of elections computer if -- gonna see if you will promote campaign improperly using a Smartphone within a division of elections process.
-- -- these issue would not have been raised but frankly.
The primary is over we need to unify as a party go forward for the general election and that's really what we're focused on we have the utmost confidence in the division of elections.
How do you do that -- having -- -- unify the party now when you guys and again according to Dan Springer our reporter who's in Anchorage and he's been following this is obviously you have very closely.
You saying that we may know.
How this -- is gonna come out as as early as tonight so perhaps tonight you'll find out that you are the Republican nominee for.
That Lisa Murkowski has has beaten you and that she's the Republican nominee how is the party supposed to unify.
After allegations on your side of the you know -- possible vote tampering or -- election shenanigans and her allegations at her side that your paranoid.
-- you have a lack of experience that's what's causing you to question this.
And that you're afraid of Republicans.
Well I think the establishment mentality is what's really causing this nation to go on the wrong direction.
Can't force loyal laughs there's no common sense recognize that this country is headed in completely the wrong direction.
As a consequence of the crisis of leadership in DC so I really believe that Alaska's little -- the conservative and even those that aren't conservative ally.
Are going to embrace our campaign in its campaign of returning power to the states.
Reducing the control on the entitlement mentality of the federal government so it's not going to be an issue I think and creating unity.
After a discount -- -- but again we're looking forward looking to the future.
We want to keep the integrity within the division of elections our team has done a phenomenal job there been no complaints about.
Untoward actions of the people that are observing our behalf.
And we look forward to bolt but count the comes out later today of the 151000 ballots that are going to be challenged.
You you know you came out of nowhere according to some -- -- really challenge Lisa Murkowski and his racist or.
Our viewers know you're combat veteran your bronze star recipient near West Point graduate your LA at Yale Law School graduate you are.
Federal magistrate judge.
And and decided to run for office however you are sort of the fight -- side.
Tried and true conservative in the race Lisa Murkowski is that is it a bit more moderate for lack of a better term -- in your ears staunchly pro life.
You are -- staunchly against.
The health care law and the and you want the repeal of it she doesn't.
You're against cap and trade these are the things that got you so competitive in this race but -- questions mr.
How whether those positions are gonna hurt you.
In Alaska in a general election so wanna show our viewers the polls and get your thoughts on this look at this latest poll this is from public policy polling.
Joe Miller -- the Democrats got McCadam just as if you.
If you wind up getting the nomination running as a Democrat there's an eight point spread now look at Murkowski.
-- -- -- Look at that.
I just got a 32%.
-- on him.
Which has some people some Democrats outside of Alaska saying.
Go Joe Miller because he's a candidate we Democrats think we can -- your thoughts.
Well I think -- there's are very very very long shot and that that the Democrats embrace the felt policies of the Obama administration.
And this state there's going to be solid rejection of that you -- once the state of Alaska as a total -- talking about Democrats included.
Here's our vision of where we want to take this state in this country I think there again embrace basically the positions that we have if one of state control.
And you're gonna be a Republican you can be a Democrat you can be a liberal you can be -- conservative.
Got a brace of that vision.
Because it's one of local control it's getting out the central government and its felt policies and it's an efficiency and really I believe is the future of this nation.
If Lisa Murkowski wins tonight will you endorse her or will you consider running.
In some other way as a libertarian perhaps or some other way.
We've already made it clear that we're gonna unify after these counts come out it was a commitment also -- my opponent made about a week and a half ago.
Alright Joe Miller we've been watching the race closely can't believe it's at this point still not decided I'm sure -- On pins and needles thank you so much -- given us your time we appreciate it.
Enjoyed it thank you okay good luck to -- -- Dan Springer is in Anchorage Alaska this hour where some of that ballot counting is now taking place he will speak with Lisa Murkowski about our interview with Joe Miller.
Murkowski as you mentioned earlier is trailing her challenger by less than 17100 votes some reports today the absentee ballots that are being counted.
Come largely from districts that supported her.
So that would -- to her benefit but no one knows how this vote count is going to come out update from springer shortly from now.
