And thank you.
Is there a civil war developing within the GOP.
This week conservative Tea Party candidates picking up more primary wins against more established or mainstream Republicans.
Could this turn into good news for the Democrats come the mid term elections.
Let's get into it now with Juan Williams and -- our senior correspondent and Fox News contributor also Bob Cusack managing editor of the hill.
So set the stage for -- Juan what have you seen happening.
In terms of the Republican Party say a state like Alaska is a pretty good example right.
Are just a terrific when it you know it really goes beyond this picture but it's -- it's it's instructive in terms of their idea of a civil war John because if you think about Sarah Palin's power there.
She beat Frank Murkowski.
In the Republican.
Our primary for governor back in -- steaks and actually set up to defeat at his daughter Lisa Murkowski who with the incumbent senator who inherited her -- -- And clearly she positions herself as the outsider the Republican who's really speaking for the people.
And given her associations with the Tea Party extends -- across the country.
We we just went out let me let me just interrupt you we should point out the Murkowski I mean I haven't finished the counting of the absentee ballots.
Plus she is behind by a little less than I mean -- about a percentage.
Difference in the two races but it it doesn't look good for Lisa Murkowski with that.
-- because there she'd have to when I think someone -- today 70% of the absentee ballots in there about 7000 of them out but that's still a lot to win so we'll see how it goes but you're right there.
Say that you know the race has not been decided.
But nonetheless obviously.
This is a big win for Sarah Palin and for Joseph Miller even if it doesn't quite -- -- -- it's put tremendous pressure on her.
And I've got to say that if you also see this thing in Nevada where Palin endorsed Kerry Angola are very strong Tea Party support for Sharon angle and yet when the Denver.
We we seem to have lost this doesn't happen very often but we lost our connection too Juan Williams they're in our Washington bureau.
Don't know why that happened but let me get over to Bob Cusack who treasuries today want your still live good to see -- -- well -- back to play but let me go to Bob -- Bob one team of Associated Press -- describe it as.
Holier than -- conservatives dominating.
In ever more primaries in a fight for the party's soul.
What is going on I'm not sure if that is just I think we do have gremlins in the system.
Bob do we have you.
Yeah yeah I want to go.
I think yeah I mean misses overall.
So it is causing some party for some Republicans in Washington including senator -- But the same time mid terms are about getting the base out and the Tea Party is helping the Republican base get out the really the Republican base has not been fired up since 2004.
And now -- fired up this year and Democrats don't have a strong candidate in Alaska so looks like who would ever win the primary.
But would go onto and others now speculation -- could run as an independent.
It's causing some problems but in November.
-- going to be key and if you look -- the enthusiasm gap between Democrats and Republicans Republicans are the ones that are fired up and Democrats are the ones deflated even though President Obama has accomplished much of his agenda well.
It isn't it true though one that almost no matter.
What flavor of Republican gets nominated as part of the nominating process are Republicans -- -- pretty much stick with their party come November.
Yet but remember that you're really after independent.
Voters down and so.
What you're getting for example this week you heard Vice President Biden thing Republicans are nominating people who are out of the mainstream with the American public.
Are you hear them saying that these are people who -- on the extreme and that's not the Republican brand that you're accustomed to.
These are people who are I think the vice president fed the -- on steroids you know bringing back old policy that didn't work on steroids.
So that's going to allow the Democrats to develop a campaign -- that portrays Republicans in a negative light.
And also remember that if you look at.
The public polls on this the public has actually a better opinion of Democrats in congress been Republican for congress so there are lots of issues here that opened doors for Democrats to make charges and try to.
Diminish with the power.
That Bob rightly says -- the power of Republican enthusiasm in this cycle.
-- in twenty seconds or so do you see this benefiting Democrats.
This intra party fight.
I agree with one at a couple races that Democrats could seize upon -- whether it's at Ken Buck in Colorado he mentioned Sharon angle.
But but overall if you look at independence -- locked away from present Obama they beat the supporting him greatly in 2008 and now independents have strayed away from the Democratic Party is going to be counting them has to get them back.
All right Bob Cusack and Juan Williams very glad we could get that discussion Sunday just after all the technical glitches -- there -- guys.
