Right now there's so much focus right now on the building of a mosque near ground zero many are starting to ask about the second question is always.
Or where's the 9/11 memorial and could we see a mosque built just blocks from the -- of those attacks.
Before there is a memorial and the buildings.
Would remember those victims before that -- -- -- luck.
-- construction for the memorial if you go downtown Manhattan -- you'll see that that did it begin this summer.
It is planning that -- -- open at.
Next September -- around September 11 there in time for that anniversary which would be the tenth anniversary.
The whole thing the whole construction of the buildings in the complex is expected to be done.
A full twelve years.
After that attacks and now for the proposed mosque that will be just couple blocks away from that construction would start as soon as the park 51 building is demolished.
Building -- that -- is expected to take one and a half to four years to complete the demolition so it's possible.
That it could be up before the completion of that this former World Trade Center site now and -- -- -- -- question.
Why hasn't this -- that being tried for the crime of plotting these attacks.
September 11 we heard so much about trials happening in New York City.
That appears to be on -- we were supposed to get some information back in March on that.
The governor George Pataki who of course was there on September 11 and so many days.
Following out of New York struggled to recovery building cares so deeply about new York and about this project and I'm glad to have you here today as governor and the thank you -- -- with him so I -- -- -- -- everywhere I -- people I talked to you know this mosque issue come up and invariably the next thing out of that of their minds was.
-- where where's the memorial how how could that be built before that's.
Well first I hope the mosque is built there at all it's inappropriate and I don't think the fight over that is is is over I think we still have an opportunity to convince.
The people behind it that it's the wrong side and shouldn't be done and we certainly have the ability to look into where the funding is coming from whether or not they actually have control of the site.
And raise some issues there but.
Do that -- the president Netscape and the mayor of New York City are both back on this project should there.
It should be the attorney general of the State of New York because it is a charitable institution within New York State so they have the right to do that that.
I think we can also look at whether or not they actually -- title to the site appropriately and if they do then that's a -- they've overcome -- -- -- still have to get get beyond but switching to the memorial.
I have to tell you about Martha that I am so proud of what is happening there.
This is going to be something that I believe will be the most visited site in North America certainly in the United States millions of people from around the world -- going to come.
And if you go down there today.
You can see it taking form the plaza over where ground zero stood.
Is rising you can see the -- with the towers actually stove which I think it's just an incredibly emotional and powerful.
And the goal from the beginning was to do this right in a way that tells the story of September 11 so that.
Not just people who weren't there but people weren't born on September 11 will understand that the magnitude of the horror and the courage that New Yorkers showed and I think.
When it is completed and I hope the memorial on the memorials on schedule to be completed next year when they have a chance to visit.
IE I still hope that you're right and I'm encouraged to hear the way you're talking about this site because it needs to be a place that I can take my children you can take your children and we now to our grandchildren.
Said that they understand what happened there how -- how important it is.
-- it doesn't -- sidebar issue that you and I discussed about about this whole site about this World Trade Center site.
And I remember that I used to work at the world financial building across the street.
That there was it Ed -- -- -- church that currency Nicholas Greek church right across from the World Trade Center.
It was it was it crumbled in during that attack and they want very much the people of that -- to rebuild it.
Why is that being -- on.
And understand makes no sense to me because -- necklace and Greek orthodox church was the only house of worship destroyed on September 11 and from the beginning I and others said we are going to make this a part of the rebuilding.
And in fact in the master plan was developed for ground zero saint Nicholas is there.
And we would met with the church officials we've met with the Port Authority officials we met with the families in the memorial committee.
And everyone was very happy with the site in the location so why the Port Authority now.
Has so far -- put roadblocks in the way of its reconstruction is beyond me.
It's not the right thing to do it should be rebuilt and I hope that in fact it is revealed.
Yeah I -- what let's the president is aware of that situation and if he would you know -- to speak out -- what Mayor Bloomberg had to say about that I believe that he.
He feels that it is gonna happen and we and we certainly hope that that's the case of -- -- to the people from that church.
Because you say it was -- only religious house that was destroyed.
During September 11.
It you know it it it just one last -- trials and why we haven't heard when these people are going to be brought to justice I -- -- this is such a a dagger.
In -- everybody's soul who is close to this it's.
It's absolutely wrong Khalid Sheikh Mohamed is a mass murdering in my view war criminal who deserves to be tried and executed not tried in civilian court not tried in lower Manhattan but tried as is legal and appropriate under US law before a military tribunal -- this administration.
Like they're voting present now on the mosque after being for it and now not quite so sure.
I'm not so sure that they haven't rethought the wisdom of having Khalid Sheikh Mohamed have a show trial.
Where he can engage in propaganda and inflame people against the US across the world -- the wrong thing to do.
But certainly justice delayed is justice the night and the families of those who lost their lives in September 11 and all Americans who care.
Deserve an answer as to why Khalid Sheikh Mohamed still hasn't been brought to justice.
Does it seem out of -- he would that we're hearing all of this on behalf of this mosque and then now.
If -- seems to be a lack of sensitivity and even tolerance for -- Britain that the families and the victims.
And the deficit they're still waiting for.
I am so glad you've raised this issue because there -- you know the focus has been on the mosque but what about.
Those war criminals who attacked us on September 11 why haven't they been tried and convicted.
As they should be and this administration has been all over the lot military tribunals close Guantanamo apparently they're not -- -- Guantanamo.
But they should it is certainly with Khalid Sheikh Mohamed and the others who attacked us on September 11.
Make sure they get tried and before military for being animals and do it as quickly as -- Yeah I think it be great at Piedmont routes would speak out about that -- let let's convict these people I wouldn't hold your breath Martha I don't know -- -- -- -- I don't know the reds then that he -- see justice in this case is that that other medications so.
I'll definitely going to -- competitor protect -- it was a pleasure -- -- -- I was giving -- my hair much thank you.
