Personal story segment tonight as we mentioned in the talking points memo Missouri senator Claire McCaskill was treated it partially but some in yesterday's town hall meeting about health care.
-- The here's here's.
For how he's going to vote yes bullet -- playing on this.
You work Iraq and so and so isn't -- I.
Joining us now from Saint Louis is -- what do you think is driving the -- -- Well there's cynicism.
About Washington this trust in the government.
There has been tough times in this country and there have been some big bold things done in Washington and people are not really sure about followed the plans have been the TARP the stimulus -- and it's all kind of rolled up into some frustration right now.
And that's that anger you see spilling over.
I understand it.
It's important I listened to it.
And I think we gotta be respectful I wish they would be more polite I don't think being -- make -- right.
And I don't think -- is particularly persuasive but at the end of the day it's my job to listen and I'm honored to have this job all right.
Now did you think that they were organize people and there are people who came just to disrupt.
Or was it a legitimate.
Display of anger.
I think that it's Bennett a mistake.
For anyone to say that this has been and manufactured.
Effort on the part of many of these folks that are shouting out this is real it's grassroots now they're organizing.
But that's what we do in America and -- people do it on the left and people do it on the right.
Most the people in the middle frankly don't.
And that's where I'm trying to stay focused in those areas of state is split 5050 and I think we need try to bring those those two friends as to the middle and and find some compromise and and reform health insurance.
We'll compromise is always good and I think we do need a a reform and health care industry but it is chaotic right now and part of -- -- president's -- because he's not been able to articulate.
And a number of press conferences and next positions what this is all -- are you disappointed.
In the way the president has presented.
His vision of health.
Well I think the problem is bill that.
There has been an effort not to let these bills grow organically in congress and there's a reason they compare lawmaking the sausage making.
You have a lot of opinions a lot of pushing and pulling.
I think as time goes on one bill will emerge in the house and one bill will emerge in the senate and -- -- a lot of debate discussion I -- And I asked legitimately a lot of it coming together -- You know I IA I'm all okay intellectually -- -- on I graduated from Hartford.
I don't know what he's talking -- against set I know from at and I listen -- -- -- that we'll get her.
I don't always talking about.
I listen and it's my job to do this I -- always talk about now my colleague Neil Cavuto on this program today held up.
The house police house -- more than a thousand pages -- you -- doesn't.
I've read the senate bill that's come out of -- not -- -- as we won't.
We will be voting on house felt OK so I want to get prepared we've all I respect certain fifteen Gates's of the of the senate -- how long how many pages.
615 -- that's what in the senate now nobility B 600 and you know -- -- be a thousand pages because the folks can't get that they're not gonna get.
You -- distill it down to five pages are right and you got a bullet point it out like I do every nine talking points than you guys haven't been able to do it.
And now -- deep distrust as you just sit and and you were actually right deep distrust and you know it's all about.
It's all about big government intrusion.
Into the lives of Americans most Americans want that.
Only the far left -- that even liberal people my far left they don't want a big government intrusion.
That's what this is senator it's big government.
Well I don't I don't know that at the end of the day it's going to be big government through enhancement of the ironies let's just okay bill have to be it gives it away cannot be.
What ironies of this is as I go to these town halls where there's a lot of anger I asked people raise their hand if they have Medicare.
And then I -- put your hand down if you wanna get rid of Medicare and nobody 100 Medicare.
They -- well yeah Medicare that's a big that's a big government intrusion.
Okay government run health program that is -- it's bad enough common pantry it's bank what my country past and that's.
And that's why we've got to work on this bill I wish believe me I am very straight forward.
I like it plain and simple I was talk like a real person always I agree that we need to quit lighting bills.
Then our staff driven and more complex than they need to be.
And I hope as the the weeks go on as we drill down and simplify the concepts that are in this bill.
For the American people that we can bring them along because I think we can't afford not.
To take some of the ways -- now is on -- program.
And the -- and fair.
I think you'll get it done if it isn't you war.
Senator I think only -- have -- that it's a pleasure daddy I want you back any time thank you very much for here thank you for having me plenty more ahead as the factor moves along.
