Her sister publication the Wall Street Journal broke the story that president elect Barack Obama is considering about 300 billion dollars.
In tax cuts as part of his economic rescue package half would go to individuals.
The other half to US corporations.
He's meeting with his economic team today on the plan that could cost one trillion dollars overall.
Some governors from struggling states are already talking about how they want to spend that cash.
Wisconsin democratic governor Jim Doyle already outlined what he would do with the assistance he joins us now.
Live from Madison.
Governor Doyle I was reading down a list of what you'd like to spend in Wisconsin 900 million to help clean up a waterway that's contaminated with PCBs.
97 million to speed up expansion of I 94.
That kind of thing.
Yes I mean we have the the very long list.
Of projects so we've tried to do it did did done at this point is that accumulate assemble all of the projects that are ready to go that we get people to work got -- hurried.
And there are obviously a number of road and bridge product could have projects.
They really them improving our ports and harbors.
Which we've -- -- the Great Lakes state nobody ever quite understands that I talk about harbors from Wisconsin but it's very important not.
And a number of other very major infrastructure improvements that we could get people to work very very quickly.
I guess it's good for the construction industry but there -- a lot of industries that are hurting right now doesn't this kind of program favor construction over other business.
That's no doubt it does that mean that the at least at the federal -- talking about major infrastructure improvement is going to favor construction.
I think there are a lot of economists who would argue that.
You actually get a pretty good multiplier -- out of construction but let me just say that's from the State's point of view that this is where the federal government's going and if they're real interest -- getting people to work quickly major infrastructure projects that so we're trying to make sure -- in a position to do.
Republicans in your state have criticized this plan saying that essentially what you're trying to do is get the federal government to pay for programs that you've advocated.
That the that voters in your state have rejected till now your response.
I don't quite understand that I mean we're talking about a federal stimulus package that is directed -- across the country getting people to work.
And they may disagree with President Obama on this but that is but he is clearly been directed he has clearly been focused on how we do this through infrastructure projects and it is the state.
This states that have the largest.
Infrastructure projects -- the ones that are ready to go quickly so if -- -- you wanna -- you come to state governments that that harbor improvements you wanna make you come to state governments that -- municipal water treatment.
We have a -- Method in Wisconsin by which we fund mean it helped fund municipal water plant improvements so.
Mean that's where that's where you go to get this kind of job done.
I will come visit -- your harbors in Wisconsin one of these days they're very nice and -- getting better governor Jim Doyle thank thank you.
