Well one of the big stories of this convention are the western states which in the last presidential campaigns over -- number of years have been reliably.
Republican but are starting at least the Obama campaign is to believed to turn a little bit blue maybe.
Football history could be rewritten this year is some of those red states that come.
And we're going to talk to one of the democratic governor is one of the big reasons.
That people think that that part of the country is saw those states there that could go -- -- joined by.
Montana governor Brian Schweitzer and thank you for coming inside the structure -- governor -- -- here all right the Obama campaign is that -- Monday money stunning.
Putting up lots of ads he's personally campaigning in Montana.
But the latest polls show McCain -- realistically.
What are his chances to win Montana.
Well Democrats haven't got to 50% Montana since LBJ.
Clinton got 38 and a half percent 41%.
Gore got 32% the day I was elected Kerry got 38 and a half percent.
But to have Obama in the forties and I look at some polls it's tied 43444542.
It's back and forth.
This is the closest closest that any democratic.
Potential nominees -- 50% since LBJ so it's time.
All right -- does that you can Al Gore couldn't win Montana John Kerry couldn't win Montana what is it about Barack Obama that makes you think he can.
Well -- Obama's got a plan for energy and I think most people across America are tired of paying four dollars a gallon for gasoline.
They don't want these Petro dictators to control this country anymore.
They're tired of us sending 700 billion dollars a year to these folks who like to destroy our way of life.
And Barack Obama got a plan to produce American energy designed by American engineers and built by American workers.
Yeah the governor is you well know other Republicans think right now the energy issue is working for them not for the Democrats particularly because of the fact that.
The Republicans for a long time had been for built oil drilling.
Here in places like Colorado on the outer continental shelf.
In early June -- John McCain jumped on board Barack Obama has -- well as part perhaps of a big complicated plan I'd do it if you certainly get the sense.
That he and Nancy Pelosi are being dragged kicking and screaming to oil drilling is not something -- going to hurt not help at a place like Montana.
Well I think those Republicans ought to keep smoking those pine -- if that's what they believe.
We have an oil man as president and vice president and adding it was a dollar eighty a gallon when they were elected went all the way to four dollars a gallon clearly the Republicans don't have an energy plan.
In Montana we're developing energy we've increased our oil production by nearly 50%.
More than eighty other state in the union we drill we -- cool we develop electricity with wind power.
It takes it a balanced approach in this country.
We only have 3% of the oil yet we consume 45%.
So if you say we're gonna drill our -- of energy independence you got it wrong.
Well -- -- that's not what the Republicans are saying what they are saying though is we've got to drill and drill now.
Aren't a lot of people in Montana gonna say yeah that makes some sense particularly with four dollar a gallon gasoline.
Let's lift that ban let's start drilling on the outer continental shelf and let's start doing it now you're not hearing that from Obama and policy.
Well I think you're -- from a lot of Democrats that we need to develop all over resources in Montana where drill and were driven in here and we're drilling now.
But again we only have 3% of the oil and we consume 25%.
We need other platforms yes we need to drill oil we -- coal gas vacation we need wind power solar power.
And the most important barrel of oil is the one you don't use so that means we need energy efficiencies.
You know you are or a little bit of a maverick among Democrat friends is here for clean coal which a lot of environmentalists fear that adult life.
That's a big -- the Democratic Party.
And almost all Democrats believe that we have to have clean green American energy and we can produce synergy with cool clean we can sequester the carbon dioxide.
People are not forget that 50% of the electricity America currently comes from coal.
-- the most important thing we can do to to clean up the the environment in America is to make hopefully.
Governor Brian Schweitzer governor of Montana which he hopes and a lot of Democrats up might actually be imply.
This year for the Democrats governor thanks so much for coming into the -- them up.
