Much more interesting and relevant which is the fact that the Gin Blossoms.
Spent their Thanksgiving season in Iraq they held five concerts in five different parts of Iraq.
To -- the spirits of our troops serving overseas.
And we are very honored to have with us right now the lead singer for the Gin Blossoms Robin Wilson thank you so much for joining us so tell us about your trip.
Who is it was an amazing adventure the travel -- and you're traveling with the military that's no fun but.
We were there to interact with the troops and I was always a joy there was some very satisfying experience doing the concerts there was unique.
Experience to we've done USO shows.
Being able -- having the singular experience of starting to show by shouting happy Thanksgiving Baghdad.
And that'll probably never happen again and it was pretty cool moment so how did this come about.
I don't know I got a phone call -- -- to go to Iraq for Thanksgiving and I voted yes so I'm not really sure who contacted us initially.
To invite us that.
It didn't take much to convince us to go.
That's great so all of you were on board from the start yeah I don't know if that's true OK eventually originally voted yes -- -- -- ago.
So what would you say was the most moving -- counter that you had during -- five.
Can you find will.
There were many actually but there was one troupe of medevac technicians that were sort of -- it.
As take -- to be segregated from the rest of the troops.
And they really weren't allowed to leave their compound so we went into the special acoustic -- just for them.
-- for their Xbox so.
That was a particularly.
Extra thing that we did the for the most part it was just hanging out in front of the barracks.
And interacting with the soldiers was it was as rewarding with everyone yeah what do they have to say to you.
Well you know.
You know how did you write Breakfast at Tiffany's cameras and -- -- pretty typical question her arm.
You know they would ask is the usual stuff what's it like to be in Iraq -- and how long have you guys been together where did you get your name it was just like doing a radio interview brain.
Did you -- get to interact at all with the Iraqi People.
Not really there aren't too many of them working on any of the bases -- lots -- Indians Filipinos working on the basis and but for the most part.
You wouldn't really need those people who were in line for chow and -- though it was mostly the US soldiers -- were interacting with -- -- like so that was always -- pleasure playing basketball with them.
But some video games whatever it was it was fun to -- What -- they say about being away from their families for Thanksgiving the ability dwelling on matter where they just trying to really to be -- They were all remarkably upbeat there was there was one girl in particular who -- had just found out that she was not going home for Christmas -- And so we and we were told that she's just learning to play guitar so we had -- up on stage for.
A during the concert to perform with us and them.
That those are just little little gestures that we could make -- make them feel.
Better about the situation right for the most part I've found that troops to be very -- beat the good most of -- that we -- going home.
And the whole theater is shrinking and the thing seems to be winding up somewhat -- so for the most of our spirits are pretty high but they have.
An overabundance of Gatorade and grilled cheese sandwiches -- -- so I'm really surprised that they're doing okay.
Okay well we should mention that this all comes in the midst of your latest album called milk chocolate cake by the Gin -- -- -- where you can see it.
And I believe we have a clip right now of the Gin Blossoms in concert let's play a little -- of that.
-- And you feel about somebody's like Indiana colts -- on -- company.
I don't know.
-- do everything I could forget the audience for the show they were a little bit stiff because.
They're not used to going to concerts and at this place.
And their senior officers were all there it's kind of like doing -- show at school you know it -- feel like their futures -- watching.
Go it was always helpful when the commanding officers with that comes to the stage and I could interact with them directly from.
Not great but it was it was really every show was very satisfying and we we enjoy playing pretty much anywhere.
But it -- it was it was really were warning to be performed for the soldiers -- -- -- a little -- by the Wisconsin.
We played there all the time.
Okay whoop whoop -- just a shout out there was.
Hey got -- house -- complicate your latest album doing.
A pretty well for for our small label it's doing really good and we're really pleased with music and it commercially it's doing pretty good so far we've got a song and an upcoming movie.
And that goes to help like pay off all that debt that we acquired making a record throughout what movie you're gonna hear the I I honestly I cannot remember the name of the film it's romantic comedy with Anna Farris.
Well and should be coming out soon and supposedly we have the track it's going to be in the commercials and that sort of thing so I'm.
That helped -- you know we're we're out doing shows for playing Detroit on the receive.
And next week I'm going to McAllen Texas to promote boot record -- radio.
And then we just did these two shows him in Colorado.
So we're we're busy we we probably played eighty shows -- -- I would think.
Haven't around a long time relatively speaking 42 years and that it's total along -- you account for that longevity.
Well I think it really comes down to having decent songs I don't think that any rock band you can -- -- if they don't have material that people wanna listen to.
And you know we're we're talented guys and we play well together we have somewhat unique sound within our little branch of rock and roll.
But it all comes down to whether or not you have the -- material -- and I think that that's why we still have a career.
He has a very talented I I really -- -- -- I remember hearing them and long time ago I can feign being like.
That plane apartment party someplace that works both ways because our crew are huge fans of yours and they're all they're actually members of their FaceBook friends of yours -- -- -- he blesses.
Say hello to the notorious he -- -- -- I got like red -- okay if we're gonna actually -- Greg -- -- shortly but well okay well that's nice thank you guys spent.
