There's going to be a really important -- going on would both presidential candidates in attendance is being set up.
By pastor Rick Warren you know who he is he's the author of the purpose driven life the -- going to take place at his Church.
And it's being called the saddleback civil forum on leadership and compassion pastor Rick Warren joins me this morning to talk about exactly that's going to be going on here.
Now I know that he had coined -- because this is really interesting format rock Obama's gonna come out first and you're going to aid.
Send him on with all the questions that you've been advising for probably the last couple weeks -- he's not going to hear any and that's.
Then he's going to come out for the second hour and into the same questions right.
Identical questions that's it's accurate that way we get a fair comparison -- the candidates that there's no bias no got -- they get past the exact same question.
Now I know that these questions are not going to be your typical questions you've told us earlier in the show the four categories can you sum up just real quickly why they're not going to be the typical kind of political questions.
Gretchen what I'm trying to do to stake out but what I call the common ground for the common good.
I think -- a lot of Americans who are disaffected by both the left and the right.
The whether it's the secular left the religious left or whether it's the secular right the religious right.
I'm neither of those and a lot of people aren't either.
Those either and they want to look for common ground in the middle may actually say it will I think.
They're right on that and I think they're right on that I don't happen to agree with either the candidates completely and I don't think a lot of people do either and so it's a chance to.
In a civil way which we say you can disagree without being disagreeable and just because you disagree with somebody doesn't give your right to demonize them and caricature them.
A both of these men love America they want what's best for America they just have different visions.
-- hit you on good people up to the side near an end that's like because you are setting up this formed to help people decide a lot of people remain undecided in this election cycle.
Maybe you made up your mind that you're going to share that with anyone because you're not going to endorse.
Either of these candidates at least publicly but you do oppose abortion you define marriage as the union of a man and a woman if people look at that they might.
Oh you're siding with John McCain.
Well you know what I'd I'm not just pro life -- whole life I I I -- concerned about that baby girl before he's born.
But I'm also concerned about that baby girl after she's born whether she's born into poverty whether she gets an education whether she's born.
The crack addict or born with aids so -- whole life by expanding.
My Mike -- commitments and my agenda but it really isn't about me it's about what Barack Obama believes what John McCain believes.
I think their a lot of people who say well like disagree with a bomb on this that I disagree -- McCain on that but I happen like this about Obama and I haven't liked this about McCain.
And they're going to have to weighed their options are going to have to say what in the scheme of priorities is most important to meet what do you say it what do you say to the critics.
Who say -- you're type of a religion may be the watering down of religion that maybe you're putting ahead social justice.
As opposed MD what Beijing the real message of being Christian -- responded.
Well first -- flatly deny it because.
Saddleback Church is one more people than Jesus Christ than any Church in America in the last forty years is -- the last ten years we've baptized over 20000.
New adult converts and who I am for the good news of Jesus Christ that easy answered all of our problems that he's the only way to haven't.
But I am also for the common good.
And my goal is to.
Let's say what's best for America in this particular.
I think now I believe.
That both the left and the right they you know you get attacked from both sides because when you try to do a middle ground you've got enemies on both sides -- Well you have achieved a finding that middle ground in this forms going to take place Saturday night.
We're all looking forward to it requiring great to see you today and good luck thank you Gretchen.
