Welcome back let me remind you Stephen -- our guest today has a brand new book called the end of prosperity it's for ash on the shelves hoping to the top and really you've already knows he's got some things to say.
But we're gonna go to the audience and take some questions for show and for Stephen we're gonna start with Mike who is small business operator -- -- Pennsylvania Mike Hoffman Mike welcome.
Good to be here my questions for -- and the panel.
I'm a small business owner and I've had a business for thirteen years and I operate in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Governor Corzine and governor Rendell have dipped into my pocket.
Significantly more over the last two or three years and it puts it it's put an added burden on my business.
It now the federal government that there's talk of that.
Dipping further into the pocket what what's an alternative to that as a way of helping the bit the economy grow.
-- -- -- -- -- let me that -- -- I think it's a great question I think it's a question on the mind of a lot of Americans right now and I think what's infuriating a lot of people about the Obama tax plan is wait a minute why don't we look at cutting some government spending for -- -- -- folks on the active.
-- -- -- -- Republicans are responsible for this is Democrats and -- -- was George Bush was elected with a two trillion dollar budget now it's three point one trillion that doesn't include any of the cost of the bailouts that we Don.
And so I have a question for you well.
How many you think more than twenty cents out of every dollar you send to Washington is wasted.
I'm afraid more than forty cents of every dollar question I -- -- -- America the American.
I really think that they want this government brought down the site -- and they don't see why we have to shrink the family budget one that shrink the federal budget.
Joe when when you can't meet all of the things you want to do as both a father and a small business operator what is that you do.
As Joe the American citizen.
When you can't do everything you what do you do.
Not cut things and only -- -- -- real simple isn't it you know instead -- mine hand you Babylonian homestead Miami need you gotta cut things you you you know you clip out coupons and and you you you you look for things to do.
-- you don't go out as much now I'm not one that goes out much but other people you know do you know you spend more time and -- you know just kind of cuts so.
As far as your question.
You don't want to tax advice from him Plummer.
I don't know and I don't smoke on the small business yet -- you know it's a dream that I have some learning just just like you know a lot of people are these days so Joe your tax advice couldn't be any worse in the -- most people get from the -- I don't remember so -- -- -- you you might want to -- and attacks counseling after all.
We got another question of the -- this is from -- who is from Canada when welcome in.
Feel free to ask your question.
Thank you Mike on my question is from I can tell and one it's now and it's being from Canada and how to that connect to and I believe the greatest.
Nation in the world for doing good for other.
In your history I understand the anger in the economy but I don't understand its direction.
George Bush has been a great president he kept his -- his cabinet could be yours the economy is booming.
Since the Democrats took congress.
Looking from the outside I've seen huge increases in spending.
I'm mister Pritchett kept -- -- He's -- the war hockey shores a return crackdowns bringing home in victory.
And giving you such a great nation you free the country over there.
You've given people hostile school.
Why are people angry at George Bush and the Republicans.
And not Nancy Pelosi Barney Frank acorn anime a Freddie -- It.
But let me let me before -- answer your question you know something -- I just decided I think we need to get to honorary citizenship -- -- Okay.
You obviously have a greater love and respect for the United States of America than many of the people who live here and ought to really realize what an incredible experience.
It is just to be an American -- but let me express this and having been governor pretend that here's one of the things I realized was when you're the chief executive whether it's of the state of the nation.
You tend to be the personification of government as people perceive it and the reason that a lot of things get blamed on a president be George Bush.
Our or whoever the president is Jimmy Carter Bill Clinton Richard Nixon is because it's the one person that people can relate to and identify.
And so therefore I think sometimes that the people see it as he's the guy and if you spread -- over 535 members of congress.
It's really easy for those guys to hide among each other and that's what happened.
You don't like a lot of people ask the question I've been asked this hundreds of times in the last few weeks.
What do we do to get out of this crisis and in you and I think -- pretty much the same answer I'm a flat tax guy you're fair tax guy but they're they're pretty similar I mean my goodness if we couldn't put in place a low flat rate tax -- can something would have made a big events I mean my god it would be like rocket -- this economy we've got to go and.
